For those wondering what he is actually doing. He is just cleaning the fuel pump strainer, some car do not actually have a separate fuel filter that connects to the gas line, instead they have fuel strainer that works about the same. These strainer can get clogged up over time and the car could have poor fuel economy, he chose to clean it but you can buy a new one at any auto part store for about $10 - $15 and replace the old one.

In most cases i think its just the suction strainer. Instead of replacing the whole pump. Can imagine this by looking at the fuel filter further downstream. Its only a centrifugal pump and if its still turning it might be a volume problem. Yes thank you I wonder can one back flush the pump?
