The year was 2001, I was in third grade. I was sitting in class when the fundraisers were announced and as a child, everyone was interested in the prizes and there it was. PS2 for the grand prize. Long story short, my dad, mom and the rest of my family aunts and uncles went out of their way to help me sell and guess what, the night before the fundraiser was due, I was short by a few items. So my dad buys a whole bunch of the cheapest item which was a chocolate bar which cost like 7 bucks each so I can get the ps2. I was the only one in the school who had sold over 1000 dollars to get the ps2. Man it’s crazy now that I’m 26 I look back and realize how my family mostly my dad went out of his way to do that for me.
That's beautiful story, the great part of it, when the day will come, you'll do the same for your child without expecting anything in return but Love from them. Take care of your lovely family and stay safe!!
I remember the day my dad got us our Playstation 2. It was 2004. I was 11 years old and my younger brother was 9. We went together to my friend's house, and me and my friend started playing Enter the Matrix and left my brother out. We didn't even realise that and I wasn't paying attention. I felt so bad and apologized to him later. He told the story to my dad. The next day, my dad is coming home from work with a package. He tells us it's a fax machine. We take it to the house and open it, and there it was: a brand new PS2, an extra controller and 5 games. We were so excited we couldn't sleep that night. I still remember the day like it was yesterday. Thank you Dad!

That was a great time. I remember picking it up for my bday in March after it was released. It was so hard to find. I had to spend like 600 bucks as the place I bought it would only sell you it bundled. So I had to buy the system, 2 games, memory card and a 2nd controller. I picked up SSX and Zone of Enders as my first games. Great Games!
PS2...Graphics Syntheziser is like a Voodoo 2. It can only do pixel processing. All the 3d things are done by the CPU. To make the CPU more powerful Sony made a seperate CPU core to do 3d. It had its own thread using a different Isa. Also complete sperate ram space. Imagine if if during the Pentium 2 Intel added MMX instructions into a seperate core in the CPU, the core works asynchronously with the regular x86 core and can only access 16kb of scratchpad ram.. you also have to write code only in assembly language for the MMX core. PS2 was always a nightmare to program and Sony made this on purpose to make it hard for developers to port PS2 games to other consoles and PC. Worked for the PS2 but it completely backfired for the PS3
@sampo i I thought about this for some time and my conclusion is that the CELL was a huge failure for Sony. The entire architecture proved to be superior to the tricore/six thread cpu on the 360 but to get there cost too much money. Only a few developers really pushed the PS3 to the limit (naughtydog, insomniac, santa monica and guerrilla come to mind) and they all come from Sony. All third party publishers made the games on the 360 and then ported them to the PS3. Programming/game development skyrocketed when the HD era arrived so the complexity of the PS3 proved to be one of its greatest weaknesses. One of the main reasons Sony accepted the massive losses on the PS3 during its release was because the true plan for the CELL was to use it in tv, computers, servers, workstation and supercomputers. Almost all of these never happened and the ones that did never really made Sony/Toshiba any real money. Today all modern CPUs follow the multiple core and dual thread approach instead of the architecture of the PS3 with main core(ppe) and multiple small cores (spe). A real shame since games like Heavy Rain, Uncharted, Killzone 2, Resistance and God of War 3 would never be able to run on the 360.
GameCube, PS2, and SNES are my favorite consoles. The Switch is swiftly climbing it's way up there as well. (I like the PS1 as well, but since the PS2 can play all PS1 games, there's no reason to include it)
But PS2 and 1 have completely different libraries. Sure you can play ps1 games on ps2 but that doesn't matter when discussing your personal love for the platform and its exclusive material. Sry to nitpick lol.
I also bought a factory sealed, brand new PS2 slim in 2021, about 10 months ago. Unboxing it was amazing. It is the latest model they made, the 9000X series. I literally play my PS2 more than anything else. I have a gaming PC and an Xbox One S, and I play the PS2 more than both if them combined.
I had a hand-me-down PS1 as a kid but I was too young to really “get” it, so PS2 holds the title of my first game console at heart. I consider it sort of equal to the SNES in a way, like, the SNES perfected 2D games and the PS2 perfected 3D games.
This was a huge part of my childhood. This video made me smile. In 03 (I think) My mom and dad got this for my sisters and I for Christmas when he got a promotion at work. We played for hours and then watched a brand new Christmas movie on DVD. Unlike a lot of complaints the drive never broke, and movie or game night was typically a Friday thing. Crash Bandicoot was our favorite.
Man the PS2 was the best! Me and my friends played Madden 2003 on it all the time! Devil May Cry 1 and 3, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, NBA Street, Def Jam Fight For New York. Tekken 3 such good memories! R.I.P to my best friend I miss those days!
the ps2 is the goldilock zone of gaming, ps2 games cost 150k-2mil to develop, cheap enough so you can take a risk but expensive enough so you dont have mobile/flash games
I never had a PS2 near the time it came out but I had friends that did and I was amazed by the games on it. One friend used it just for making music with the MTV Music Generator, which blew me away at the time, which I still have recordings of. I was amazed by the versatility of the system at the time. Great video, I enjoy your channel!
I also love how this guy brought up how the old school ps2s the big ones always seen to mess up where you couldn't read the game anymore whether it was a blue disc a black disc or a regular disc it would not read it but then you put a DVD in an it would play
Ps2 is my favorite console... man the upgrade from ps1 to ps2 was huge! Gran turismo 4 was and still is a huge game! Played sooo many hours on it...Always was super excited to start the ps2😍
Ahh I remember the feeling when i opened mine, still gets use to this day. Best unboxing feeling December 91 SNES, day one release N64 was also a cool one. Hoping the PS5 will be my next day one release console i purchase. Been too long since the N64 days.
I remember I was about 14 when I got one, so around 2001, and I walked down the street to a local game store with the money my mom gave me to get it. I had seen the commercials for FFX and thought it was the most amazing looking thing and I had no idea what final fantasy even was. I had my PS2 for probably 10 years and ended up throwing it away. Lots of good memories.
I loved that big blue box. I was lucky enough to get a launch day system by pre-ordering it the moment they announced it (because game stores would do that back then). Carrying that thing out to the parking lot was a great feeling.
That expansion port was most used for a network adaptor for games like Socom US Navy Seals online. there was even an official Logitech headset. The official Sony remote for use with the DVD player functionality was really nice as well I remember playing gta vice city with it haha
I know its super left field, but I'd love to see a Gameboy micro torn down. Its not a really popular console, but it did come out before the SP, and had the back light. And I know, the pocket had a light version in Japan, but that doesn't count, because I'm pushing my own narrative here.
Yep. I used to own a PS2 and I love it at the time. The first system to ever play movies was awesome. I had the PS2 DVD remote, owned a third party afterglow controller, an EyeToy. So much fun back then. And if I ever wanted to clean the system from the inside, I usually take it apart by opening it, but not fully dismantle it mind you. Lol
PS2 and the 360 were my 2 favorite systems of all time. probably because of the age i was it was like the time where your not to young to remember but not to old and busy to play lol. bu the ps2 games were awesome and the 360 online with freinds was awesome

Definitely love these videos. Brings back great memories of getting them myself and lets me finally see what was inside of these things I poured hours of my childhood into. Btw Dark Cloud is awesome!
Ps2 is my favorite system. I've been collecting a lot of games for it lately.
neo toad town just opinions mate. Chill... on that note cross platform games do usually look the best on Xbox.
@@relate97 the metal gear solid games, spiderman ps2, god of war, san andreas, vice city, okami, resident evil 4, shadow of the colossus, any of the final fantasy games, kingdom hearts, jack and daxter, rayman, ratchet and clank. PS2 has so many amazing games although almost all have better versions on modern consoles/pc (though i still find it interesting to see the originals)
What king said but lately I've been playing futurama alot but it was expensive. And dynasty warrior games cause I use to love them back in the day.
@Jonathan Soko just need to find games that are more pick-up and play. I like hack and slash games, Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance games in particular.
Manbearpig ? Yeah but that atrocious controller kills it for me
Born in 01, the PS2 and the Gameboy SP are the apex of my childhood
PS2 was handed down to me by my uncle after his college years. Still works, still play it very often, have only cleaned it once but I never knew what the box looked like. I really like this video and would love more like it. Maybe the Wii as that is incredibly nostalgic to me as well
Lol I used to hide "stuff" and money when I was younger in the expansion bay lol
i did too loll , the good old green stuff ,,in the days of devil may cry
I used to hide my weed in mine 😂

Still have my day 1 PS2. Only system I ever got day 1. Loved that system.
still have mine but the disk drive started auto-closing long ago and i never wanted it to snap a disk I was putting in so I haven't played it in forever.
@@furydeath Probably needs a new disc tray mechanism. My Xbox 360 had the same exact problem, and I had dropped it twice.
Love watching videos like this 🙂
I remember the PlayStation 2 was sold out everywhere at launch and some people were selling them for around a $1000. Luckily though I managed to pick up a week old system that was advertised in the local news paper. I no longer have that PS2, I sold it regrettably.
I now own a PS2 slim SCPH-90004 and still use it 👍
This was my 3rd console, those were the best times so many epic games on PS2.
Dude the nostalgia hits hard asf, my first game was gta 3 and omg I still revisit it after all these years
still remember my older brother getting me a ps2 for xmas when it came out... he asked me if i wanted one and i responded sarcasticly with yeah good luck finding one! didnt take him serious. till he actually found one and got it for me. complete surprise!!! good times!
that's a nice brother you got there
@@HKgaming86 hes the best! he also got me ocarina of time during xmas when it came out....blew my mind away!! stayed up all night. took me a month to beat. N64 ruled all!!!
That awesome
My brother just beats me
@@FlipFlopGod my brother did that also....WITH my own hand.
The PS2 will always have a special place in my heart, so much nostalgia.
My favorite console of all time. Played just about every type of games on it. Still the king for me. Long live the King!
This model seems to be a SCPH-39001, the same model I have and I still play to this day.
13:56 my Gran Turismo 4 1080i footage :)
That’s awesome. PS2 was my childhood, I still have it and have been playing it a lot lately.
Watching this video made me excited for GTA Vice City/San Andreas... Nostalgia!!!
I still have all of my consoles and games. Love the Sony PlayStation!
I also love how this guy brought up how the old school ps2s the big ones always seen to mess up where you couldn't read the game anymore whether it was a blue disc a black disc or a regular disc it would not read it but then you put a DVD in an it would play
Damn I remember working a toys r us when the ps2 came out. Those blue boxes traumatized me man lol.
I was born the same day the PS2 came out in North America on October 26th, 2000.
I remember my dad buying one for me at a sears lol thing was the best.
I used to take my PS2 apart in 2002-2006 timeframe to clean the laser aperture to read disks. Ahh thanks for the nostalgia.
Playing SOCOM and transferring the data from Combined Assault 2 on the PSP was hella cool
remember my mom bringing this home way back when i was a kid, that blue box brought back memories
I know its super left field, but I'd love to see a Gameboy micro torn down. Its not a really popular console, but it did come out before the SP, and had the back light. And I know, the pocket had a light version in Japan, but that doesn't count, because I'm pushing my own narrative here.
The Casual Canuck
The micro wasn't released before the SP. It was released alongside the (also backlit) AGS-101 models of the SP
@@4rtie you are correct sir. The micro came out 2 years after the SP. My bad, but I still want to see a tear down. Its a cool console.
Micro was the last Gameboy ever made, and was completely overshadowed by the new DS.
Artie? i though it came out alongside the ds lite
shadow king DS Lite was 2006, Micro & AGS 101 were 2005
Yea you could really lose yourself in those worlds before adult responsibilities set in ☹️
the gamecube was also good
@@gazzaroony @Gary Morris your so right. I'd play with my friends from real like but I met so many kids on xbox live and we actually became good friends lol (as good as an online friendship can be). Now I barely have any friends on live cause I went years without playing.
@@SpeedyKhaledGD yeah I guess it was I bought one and I just never got into it. Maybe cause I was so young and didn't have a way to find out about games so I barely used it and then sold it. At the time I thought it sucked
So much nostalgia. I was going to get a dreamcast but my friend said you're gonna wanna wait for PS2. My mom actually found one at eb games and it was my best Christmas ever. Smugglers run was my very first game. I'll never forget my PS2 days, best time of my entire life.
I remember that everything in the system looked futuristic to me. Even to this day the weird/dark tone of the UI feels hi tech. Great machine.
This is a really awesome video. Especially it will help you to understand the history of the platforms.
I remember getting my ps2 back in the day when they they used to sell it with either true crime or Simpsons hit and run. Those were simpler times, I only got one by convincing my mum it was also a DVD player and we could use it for that in the house.
These are your best videos! Would love to see more like this
This just proves that the people who say “no one plays old games” or “no one cares about backwards compatibility” are dead wrong.
That Box Is A Beautiful Blue.
Awesome Teardown.
dark cloud is still one of my favorite games. i keep trying to get people to try it.
@Invoked79 do you happen to know if it downloads on ps5 if you bought the ps4 version?
I’d like to see more takings apart of old systems. I really trust you and your channel so I know you aren’t messing with me in the take aparts. I have a lot of old systems that I’d like to be able to safely take apart and clean/do proper maintenance on. Thank you for doing a tear down of the original PS2 model.
It’s already been opened so this is just you opening a ps2 from an old box.
Like the older systems in the box. Bring back so many memories of the day finally getting the system at home!
Ps2 : I’m the biggest sale ever
Ps5 : hold my controller and console
Yeah it will outsale ps2 easy
I would really like to see more of these unboxing and breakdown videos, as an electronics hobbyist and especially in gaming this is prime viewing for me, keep up the great work. 😀
I still have my ps2, with the hdd and network adapter.
I ended up getting a PS2 in 5th grade back in 2006. I was really late to the scene, but my first game on it was Kingdom Hearts 2 and I remember spending hours every night playing. Such a fantastic console.
“The expansion bay where you put uh” *cut* “your cousin from Boston”
I got out my old fat PS2 a couple years ago to replay FFX and a few other FF titles. It now has a permanent place of honor next to my other newer systems. Great video. Would like to see more like it.
I would like to see more of these “retro console” unboxing where they are brand new
I bought one for $20 from PAX East 2019. I owned one as a kid, so this was nostalgia overload. I even bought an HDMI cable and modded it using an IDE drive.
I always changed the system standing up and flat every other week just cuz u can change the ps symbol and it looked cool both ways
Glad ps5 brought it back
It was such an awesome time during the PS2 era...🤗💯✔ Such a great console...👍🏼
Get the N64. I will never forget opening that on X-mas with my Sister. Got the DK edition clear green. Still in perfect condition sitting on my shelf :)
I can’t see the switch lasting that long. Between the battery and the heat it puts out I don’t have high hopes :(
@@chunguspizza Yea I am with you there, sadly. I hope to have my Switch next to my N64 in 20 years in perfect working condition but....yea I don't about that.
I got the jungle green too 😁
@@jeffderiemacker4418 Jungle green, yes! That is what I need to call it. My "Super special edition Jungle Green N64 MEGA PACK"
Love these types of videos man especially with your take on them. Keep it up!
When you opened the ps2 thought i was going to see roaches running out lol.
LMFAO
Only positive thing that came out of 2020 thanks lad
Wouldn’t mind watching more of these type of videos
I remember owning at least 6 through the years. When they stopped reading a disc, usually all you had to do was open it up and use an air duster, worked like a charm.
