(B. Vanzetti)

I am glad to see that Metal Gear brought so many people to this video.
Ennio Morricone conducted this orchestra on his birthday at the age of 83! And, as of this day, he is still alive and kicking it at 86. Not to mention that this total bad-ass is still composing film music anno 2015! The more people get to listen to one of the best composers of all time the better! Here's to You! All of You!

E nelle corde dell universo, nelle meccaniche celesti.

Another triumph of beautiful simplicity! The whole song is a round of some 4-5 chords, but it's the never stopping, ever swelling crescendo that lends it incredible power.
And then there is the movie, of course. The brilliant, poignant, sad and sobering "Sacco and Vanzetti". A perfect testament to yet another time when ideology went hand in hand with insanity and when the line between politics and violence was completely blurred.

A cultured Venetian audience would never have dreamt of breaking with strict protocol and interrupting a full orchestral piece of music by breaking in with applause - unless of course by collective spontaneity, in order to render homage to none other than Sacco and Vanzetti themselves, at the words "the last and final moment is yours...the agony is your triumph".
What a magical moment, that sums up the unique Italian heart. Every rule has an exception, and the entire audience recognised one when it saw it.
I could just imagine the very spirits of Nicola and Bart swooping down on Piazza San Marco in that very moment, to acknowledge the homage given so many years after their passing, by an audience back in their country of origin, inspired by one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century.

I wonder what was going through his mind conducting his amazing works in such a fantastic location with such a crowd. He doesn't seem to be the kind of person to be proud but I hope he was proud of his achievements, I think he was one of the greatest composers of the 20th century. I had the privilege of seeing him conduct in London just before he died and it was unbelievable.
