Hey guys! Just to clarify Stellar Blade is a blend of genres, both Action & RPG but also with elements of Soulslikes and Adventure games. It definitely focuses more on the Action but as you will see when playing it is a mix of both! This is why we compared it against DMC, Bayonetta & Neir as these are other games that focus on Action even though they each have their own differences.

considering the "controversy" over the character design, this is the most unbiased and well explained review I've seen online so far. Fair criticism and solid review, I'll be waiting for the PC release whenever that finally happens.
Good use of quotation marks over the controversy thing. I feel like people were looking for a reason to be defensive about the game. It has always looked good to me, but most videos on UA-cam are full of people complaining about some obscure journalist or website saying something 'mean' about the character design.
Fortunately, since the reviews have come out, most people are talking about gameplay, story etc.
Well a lot of those other channels are more commentary channels or talk about news surrounding the initial product. Whereas channels that focus on the gameplay aspect are going to go into the subject differently. There is a little crossover but I tend to keep them seperate.
There has barely been any actual controversy lol. I’ve seen more people worried or complaining about controvery than actual controvery from real journalists/reviewers (not some jon/jane doe on social media)

A decent start. Has room to improve with potential sequel
Having watched multiple SB reviews, this is the broad consensus:
+ Great combat (narrower parry/dodge windows than Sekiro)
+ Good boss battles
- Paper thin characterizations
- Repetitive fetch side quests
Aggregate Score: 8ish/10
Gonna keep my expectations tempered, Lies of P knocked it out of the park and if SB can come close it'll be good]
Lies of P is trash compared to this. Repetitive fetch quest is the same bullshit every reviewer say about side quests. This game is amazing

7:57 A point of no return, rip sidequests. That reminds me of when I played Fallout 3, only doing main story, and then couldn't get out of the final building anymore, with only an alternative save file ~8 hours back as an alternative.
I like this. It means there are consequences and it encourages multiple play through a to catch things you missed
Since then I always play all sidequests I can do until I only have story missions left 😅

I think there's 4 reasons why there's no photo mode, eve's body.
So the customization is more for comestics or actual stats centered around certain pieces of gear?
As a ps5 owner I like the look as this, as someone who loves mods dam this needs to be on pc it looks like one of those games where amazing mods will be made. looks like il be buying it twice when it eventuall moves consoles haha
I already buy it because stellar blade is more common of Xenoblade Chronicles by same name but however music theme is Doom slayer make player hype and the quite difficult level of skill is Xenoblade but is actually sekiro shadows die twice skill technique to survive also art technique form Xenoblade Chronicles. It because it fusion of Xenoblade Chronicles + Doom slayer + sekiro shadows die twice = Stellar Blade
Can I quickly state that having a linear progression in difficulty for bossfights is something I always dislike in games?
Every time you encounter bossfights in games you know it will be a little bit tougher than the last one.
It makes it predictable and basically pulls you out of the immersion, somewhat.
For me a boss doesn't always have to be more and more difficult.

The only thing that worries me are the spikes in difficulty. Some other reviewers have mentioned this as well and its something I absolutely hate.

I heard somewhere else that with the release comes a day 1 patch that includes NG+ were you keep your stuff and you can get new outfits and upgrades.

You keep outfits, collectibles (like the cans), etc and all your upgrades, New Game Plus also gives you new upgrades to unlock for the weapons, new skills in the skill trees, and new recolors of the outfits from the first playthrough.

I would think there will be more plot twist in the next game. Also I believe photo mode is coming soon. NG+ was added today I believe.
Probably the best review Ive come across. Straght to the point. No clever words that feels like writing a novel and still leaves you clueless. Love how it gave every aspect gamers want to know. Very informative.

I know it’s nothing new that game reviews always amount to people’s opinions, but it’s amazing how two other reviews I’ve seen say that Eve is bland with no character growth and then Arrekz says she a good character with good growth. Not a criticism, it’s just funny. It does suck to hear the story isn’t that great because I was, admittedly, pinning my “Nier Automata 2.0” hopes on this. It was truly one of a kind. Will still enjoy this though.
I doubt it will put the greatness of Nier's story at risk of being surpassed, but whether one sees it as bland or good, is purely in the eye of the game-player. Subjectivity.

From the demo, I would've enjoyed it more had the responsiveness was improved and I guess they haven't fixed it for the full game.

Are yawl serious classifying titles like Devil may Cry and Bayonetta "Action RPGs"? If so, then what is the Whitcher or Horizon Zero dawn? Are we lumping all of these in the same bucket? Seems like we should hold them to somewhat different standards of expectations, which is why games like devil may Cry are often called "Character Action Game" so no one is expecting deep RPG systems in a game that really isn't trying to have that.
Yeah, the first two are clearly hack n’ slash. The combat’s challenging, but definitely nowhere near Soulslike
@@BenHopkins1000 The Devil May Cry Series has difficulty select options. On it's hardest difficulties it's just as hard as anything else out there, BUT they don't penalize you for loosing, you just try again.

Hack and slash as a genre doesn't really exist anymore. It was mostly reserved for simpler action games where you could beat the game with a single combo. Think old God of War. Those games mostly all grew up into action RPGs that still lack the sophisticated combat of a character action.

2:40: Just one thing. The majority of players like her design while a small amount of activists hypocritically dislike it for political reasons. There's no real controversy about her design since most people have no issue with it and most gamers that have played the demo absolutely liked her design.

Not everyone wants to play/make games that are borderline porn. Some of us went on to have wives and daughters.
It only takes me 5 to 10 minutes of viewing a game, before I rate it and decide to pre-order, wait for sale or never purchase a game. After 10 minutes, Stellar Blade became a 10/10 pre-order epic masterpiece of a game. Unfortunately, since I'm a PC only player, I will have to wait until the game is ported to PC, sometime around 2026.
Pros: Everthing, except for Tachy's storyline.
Cons: Tachy's storyline. Tachy should have been the main protagonist, even though her hotness, would have been more distracting while playing the game.
Honestly the game was great. I wish the characters were enjoyable for me though. The characters made it hard for me to find any sort of attachment too.

Souls games have been the best blend of action and rpg elements to date IMO. It must be difficult to balance and design an action heavy game when the player can adjust stats and gear and introduce spell casting etc.
Exactly, what happened to games like this just being action games. They blend some type of rpg elements ie a skill tree, but the main focus is action.

@@kingearth3672 He did say that both got the 14hour as story and 25 with side quests. Heard the 25 hour in other reviews too. Its not that bad but since i know that i will get it used for 30euros less in like 2 weeks i can wait, preorder/day1 edition doesn't have anything important too.

Complaining about dodge is a skill issue. And you rushed the game saying 14h most say at least 25h to 35h are you kidding me.
Is it really when you need to supposedly adjust the settings on your tv so that you can play the game the way you want? You shouldn't have to do that or tell people to 'git gud' when there is obvious lag there. When I press a button, it should register immediately or within 1 to 2 frames, not 5 or 6. Input latency issues are not new to this game, especially in the demo, it should be fixed by now or patched in the day one patch.

This is fair, I thought IGN 7/10 is a little low even if the story sucks, 7.5 is more acceptable. 10/10 if u have been waiting for a good action combat waifu game in so long, even Nier Automata has 9S filling up like 50% of the playthrough and u cant get many outfits like in this game.

I don't like these types of games, HOWEVER, I will be buying it just because I support them actually presenting a non fugly female character in the face of western ridiculous censorship of anything beautiful. I am so sick and tired of the ugly characters that the west keeps kicking out. It's horrible and makes no sense.

What nonsense. The developer started as solo until Playstation supported him after 4 to 5 years of him working alone. Also, they revamped the entire game from Game Engine, character designs and even fighting skills as well as new bosses. That takes a lot of time to create from scratch just to fit the Current Gen graphics standards. If anything, the Devs deserve an applause to even finish it despite all these resets throughout the years.

Gonna wait for Sale up to 40% at least. The price is same as God of War Ragnarok where the base game itself was good 40 Hrs on story. My first playthrough when New Game+ wasn't a thing was 65 Hrs. Compared to that, this game doesn't justify that cost.

@@topshelfornoshelf2158 It comes to personal preference if we're to agree to disagree. Because from reviews, it has only single save and no replayability until the New Game+ comes. Something like that should be added to from Day One if you're not even offering enough content in the first place.

Not the best story but the gameplay makes for a fun action game. If you are into devil may cry or Nier esk games you will enjoy it. That being said the Kotaku sexy character debacle combined with the sony fanboys, it definitely got blown out of proportion. It's good though, if you think it looks like something you would like I'd say go for it.
