Hes adding lime. That's the "fiber".it holds the sand and cement together an keeps it from cracking. Mix 4 to 1. 4 parts sand, 1 part lime 1part cement. Slowly add water to be able to ball up in your hand. If you're wondering.

      @@natrixxirtan
Lime has no fiber in it. All lime does is make the cement mix more sticky. You can definitely add fiber to the mix though.
Too much lime weakens the mix and causes excess shrinking as it dries, and the excess shrinkage will cause it to crack.
I'm a mason for a few decades and I know how lime works in mortar and stucco etc, but honestly I don't know what the guy has in the mix in the video.
I watched the video only one time and I'm sure the mix isn't a world wide top secret.
I'm guessing that there's some fiber in his mix to make it stronger. And possibly some perlite or volcanic used in place of pea gravel to make it lighter.
It's definitely not just 50/50 cement and lime with sand and some pea gravel.

I used to work for a company that made planters. We'd use glass reinforced concrete that was sprayed through a gun. The fibre glass allowed for the pots to be lighter, but the need to sand and seal the pots appropriately was needed as a harsh winter was enough to crack them.
We made a lot of interesting designs.

Also a piece of oval plastic out of the bottom of a gallon of ice cream for a bendi tool for shaping. Keep Smoothing out the cream as it comes up. A person could add pearlite for lightness. You would substitute some pearlite for some of the crushed white marble. Is that fiber some cotton or coconut fiber. It's white. Great Vid Bud. I love his Template. That lends itself to a lot more than gardening bowls. For example, you could put formers, divides, in the cement so you got four quarters, to allow you to put them up on a corner where two walls met, one above the other, and grow strawberries.
You could place a pane of glass in the sand positioned so that it intercepted the angle of the curve, and you would have the basis for a terrarium you could look into like a fish tank.

I have actually been thinking about this. You could use it to make long trough shaped bowls too.
Make the two ends by putting a divider in, then you can make a straight section very simply with the same curve by putting your two ends down on a mound of sand, and draw the shaper along a straight edge.
Why this would be good is, you can make a raised planter trough that has a attractive edge, it needs less soil to fill it, and gives you somewhere to have tools.
Also, you can easily scribe or print a pattern into the outside of the mold as it dries.
