Enjoy the honesty, especially at the end. I am getting tired of a lot of reviewers always being positive in order to continue the flow of free review copies in the future. Those sites do absolutely nothing for those of us trying to weed out good games from the junk.

I think our format helps with that. We tend not to fully love or fully hate any game we review. Everything has some good and bad aspects :)

Honest. Straight forward and to the point. Nicely done.

Do you own plans and ploys? The solo scenarios seem fascinating

I do not. I was meh enough on the base game that I gave it away.

@@OneStopCoopShop That's always a risk you need to take, right? Sometimes, the base game is just meh. But then an expansion comes out a year later that elevates it beyond belief. Do you ever regret it when that happens? Giving away a core game too early like that? This could be a good video topic. I'm not sure if you've done a video on that, something like the Top 10 Games We Wish We Kept When They First Came Out (etc)

I did a top 10 regrets video (though it’s a patreon exclusive at the moment), so agreed that it’s a good topic.
But personally, games come in so quickly that I need to cycle them out quickly too, so hanging onto one that doesn’t work for me for a year or more in case it gets better is a tough proposition.
The few times it’s happened, I’ve generally rebought the core game in order to try it again.

You are winning the UA-cam with this comment. Love it!

tapestry cards can be great but i don't think it's such a big thing. I won a game with me only getting 1 tapestry card every round. So i had to roll with what i got and still got a win in.

Sure, I was referring more to the combination and synergies of civilization and tapestries. In my experience the AI tends to score similarly at a given level, regardless of which track they focus on (automa factory balanced that well), so when things just don't come out for me that's when it can feel a bit frustrating.

I watched for a month as all of the information Stonemeier games shared about this game came out. I started off excited and grew more hesitant as more information was released. During the preorder I even had a copy in the shopping cart twice, but changed my mind.
I really want to like the game, but everything you said here sums up why I didn't preorder. I was interested because I was looking for a great thematic civilization game and this just seems too abstract.
I still really want to try it to see if I'm wrong. Any recommendations for a great civilization game? That's still something I'm missing in my collection.

It's not a pure civilization game, but I love Gaia Project, and the automa there (by the same folk as Tapestry) is excellent .

how can people say it is overpriced, it has replayability, Gloomhaven much dearer and no replayability as cards get ripped up

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  5 років тому

I wouldn't say "much dearer". I think Tapestry will have an MSRP of $100, and Gloomhaven is what, $120 or $130? Also, can't speak for others, but I never rip anything up in Gloomhaven. I just move that event to a different space and consider it "dead" until I start a new campaign.
But for me, Tapestry is a nice, straightforward, streamlined little civ game, but coated in big, beautiful components. That's fine. I certainly think it is a beautiful production. But I'm not sure the gameplay matches the size of the bling :)

@@OneStopCoopShop in UK 66,99 for tapestry (cheapest on Google) and 99,95 for gloomhaven. (cheapest on Google) tjats £33 difference, the price of another game.

@@seanmorgan2257 nice! Surprised Tapestry is running that low. I didn't know it was on sale yet (after the initial pre-orders).

I'm not sure yet if I'll keep it or not. It's good, but not sure it does things better than many similar games out there.
