- A dramatic W Series qualifying session was red-flagged after six minutes following an accident involving six cars. Sarah Moore, Ayla Agren, Belen Garcia, Abbie Eaton, Beitske Visser and Fabienne Wohlwend - were involved in an accident at Eau Rouge.
All six drivers were taken to the circuit’s medical centre and released, with the exception of Ayla and Beitske who were transferred to hospital for further checks and released that night.
Hear Naomi Schiff and Ted Kravitz talk us through that shocking incident.
And finally, we want to say thank you to our fans, partners and the wider motorsport community for all the love and support you have shown us.

Modern safety standards, much to appreciate there. It might not be Hunt/Lauda levels of excitement these days but it's also considerably less imminent deathy. Glad all came out of it relatively unscathed.
W-Series - Thank you for doing this follow up.
As a very novice driver on track myself, with my share of spins, I’ve experienced first hand how quickly and unexpectedly incidents happen. I’d like to say how amazed and thankful I am that no one was hurt. I’m glad to see the dangerous side of racing addressed ‘head on’.
W-Series and these talented young ladies are such are such an awesome phenomenon to experience - keep up the good work of trailblazing a new way of making racing real and accessible!
talented ? LOL
@@oluka9002 yes TALENTED WOMEN they have more talent in a single cell that what you do in your whole body
@@oluka9002 These women are respectable and are more talented than you are. Theres a reason why they are racing and you are not.
@@Simmo_Cars Abbie Eaton did NOT break her back in this accident. She broke her back hitting a curb in a completely different single vehicle accident.
Yeah! These Women are Talented! I want to get a driver's license, but even I wouldn't be able to drive these cars like they do!
It's so luck that no one had a fatal injury from this accident. I had serious flashbacks to Anthoine from just two years ago.
He died from a DIRECT RAM to the side of the car PERPENDICULARLY.
Not really there cars don't go that fast around tracks. They can't even handle these cars and people think women could drive a modern formula 1 car that the men struggle with to handle how violently the cars can snap and loose control. Putting a girl in those cars is a death sentence
Wow, that was a very scary mass crash; i'm glad that all the drivers are well.
If you listened to this report, you'd think all is well. Abby Eaton broke her back, cannot walk and will have to wait and see if she ever will.
@@aussie2uGA English isn't my main language, i may miss some things; i hope that she recovers her life and her movility.
@@aussie2uGA that was in COTA
@@aussie2uGA Abbie Eaton broker her back in a completely different accident. And she'll be fine.
@@aussie2uGA Looks like someone only saw the Drive Tribe thumbnail and made an assumption.
Beitske Visser gets rammed and spun Anti-clockwise violently and towards the very top of the safety barriers, then immediately gets rammed by another, sending her into another violent spin,, in the complete opposite direction!!!! Clockwise this time!!!! Totally unbelievable!!!!!!!!
1:00 imma say it again, thank god for the halo. Geez
Honestly, her head would've been crushed if her halo didn't stop that tyre
What the... Holy crap. That escalated quickly.
........suspiciously so....looks exactly like the effects of oil on the N.Ring....except for the spacing.
Well executed W Series team. Like the little BTS of ted after too.
12 sec till last car.. outrageous.. zero slowdown under double yellow Wohlwend deserves a ban.
Yes, they should review it and bring it back to drivers briefing to remind them for safety speed under yellow or double yellow flags. A race ban should work I agree.
Wohlwend has said she moved left to avoid the spinning Academy car, having not seen the other cars already in the barrier. Given the speed and incline of Eau Rouge she'd have had a split second to react..... suggesting a ban is pretty ludicrous.
@Jesus H. Christ Double yellow was visible BEFORE the blind corner.. at Eau Rogue you do not assume its going to be ok or try to drive around at speed.
@@will-sully well said, suggesting a ban is beyond ridiculous
Watch in slow mo, at 0:40 Wohlwend slightly losses the back end at the same place as Moore, Eaton, Visser and Rdest, but Wohlwend seems to catch the slide
more of a description of what happened than an explanation...
Indeed. I was expecting something different. I assume the reason was that the wet condition in the track made them loose the rear traction since all of them almost slipped at the same place. But I'm no expert, I'll wait for the official explanation (If we ever get any!)
I thought it was an oil slick on the track - the dark section you can see that they drive over.
Its because theyre afraid to say that it was a combination of the conditions and the fact that they ran out of talent.
@@WarpedMind15 did you not see the banana skins on the track?
@@WarpedMind15 Yeah there's no way that was just water
Odd cut at the end in this video.
Yeah, we need a new video editor haha.
A Racing car has two jobs.
No.1 It goes fast.
No.2 It protects its driver.
You only get to see the the second job in crashes like this.
They say women who spend a lot of time together become synchronised..these had synchronised oversteer into the tyre wall.
So glad to see everyone is safe.
Abbie Eaton had her back broken, but you know, believe media.
@@Anonymous-yv7vo lol I am pretty sure it was a separate race and incident, a stand alone case infact
I take it you don't watch the W series😅
@@Anonymous-yv7vo that was in COTA. Not at Spa. Do a bit of research next time pls
Wet track + Going fast + no Grip = Crash
And a viscous crash it was
Am I tripping but I don’t see any water
Like there is zero spray
@@juandlugka zero spray because everybody are using slicks
@@juandlugka and about not seeing any water, I've seen a race in 2020 f1 i forgot which one (that season was forgettable) it doesn't look like it was raining but they're still wearing inters, since then i never judge how dry the track is if I'm watching from tv
When you see the entirety of that wheel land head on to the driver or imagine if that car had landed flat on top, only deflected by the halo, you just have to say thank you to all that came before and all that pushed so hard for it's implementation in the sport. There have been a variety of horrific crashes throughout motorsport where the cars have been torn to shreds, and the driver pops up and walks away with just a few scratches.
Naomi is great, love seeing her on these
"" It's Forza ? ""
"" No, it's W series ""
"" Oblivious ""
So glad Beitske is ok again.
> involved in an accident in Eau Rouge
That's Raidillon actually
THANK YOU HALO!!!
Interesting that no one discusses what caused six cars in a row to go off at the same spot....in a place that is visible from 1km away as soon as you turn right after the pit straight.
I won't say more but some will understand where my comment is headed...
Are you saying that women shouldn’t drive?
the track was a little wet and the leading car was too fast and all the others followed. and its the W series so you cant really expect anything better
@@Wbc1811 it's the "all the others followed" part that bugs me.
@@vladts yea that's something i noticed about formula W, there is no diversity of racing lines or techniques, it seems like all of them have been taught the same textbook racing line and just follow what the person ahead is doing.
@@Wbc1811 for me the fact they were all unable to detect the clear danger warning in a situation where the male brain would have been inundated with red flags about the grip level is the real issue, and you cannot teach that. I can only hope no one is harmed in the future, but there is a very real risk to have some sacrifices on the altar of political correctness.
the halo just saved another life once again
thank you for this
Yellow lights on the steering wheel???? Do they come automatic??? Trying to figure things out .
Alwais fun to see footage of w sports and hear them wine about salarie difference …. You will never see 6 pilot go off grid witout contact just driving error 😂😂😂
The cause was lack of grip on the racetrack
Like a 1998 also.
What a lame explanation. How did they all those crash into each other like that ??? Six or seven cars all misjudged that corner. The w factor?
it had been raining and the grip was a little lower the leading car misjudged it and all of them followed. also its the formula W what else do you expect
They all decked out going up the hill, someone from the chassis manufacturer must’ve suggested they all run softer bump rubbers and not knock the aero back to compensate
Look likes F1 2021 Online
When will they be racing against me in F1? I really need to see that.
Naomi 🥰
In another clip it showed that it took 6 seconds for the flag to come out.
Yellow lights on the steering wheel needs to be mandatory.
For all those who are against halo
how did they ALL gone too fast to take the corner, and that ALL of them didn't slow down even if seeing the car(s) upfront crash?
You can't really see until it's too late. If you watch a helmet cam of someone going through Eau Rouge, you realise that it's basically a blind summit.
@@barclas4422 the car that had crashed was off the track, but they were going too fast for the slightly wet conditions. a better reason could be that the track was a little wet so they misjudged the grip
how did so many lose the rear?????????
If you watched the video you would hear Ted say it was raining
That is a funny-looking kitchen.
LOL SO FUNNY
Poor girls... But still brave to race at high speeds!
They shouldn’t be clearly.
First time I've seen tht crash at full speed. Worst thing I've ever seen. I hope Spa can get that wall moved back a bit so the cars can crash in peace
The plans are already drawn. I think it maybe ready for next season
Crash in peace doesn't sound good
How is this the worst spa crash you saw
@@Aim____Higher because it is really bad and I saw it? I know there's been worse but I haven't seen those ones
@@RobinThomson277 Perfect reply 😁
Wow!
Instead of a blues brothers style crash, this was more like the blues sisters
so how did so many cars lose it at the same place all in succession??
combination of factors: Wet track, one of the fastest corners on the calendar, the W-Series cars don't have great downforce or contact patches, there's not enough run off area, and the hill means you can't see the crash till it's too late. The run off area is actually being changed now - they are excavating the terrain behind so they can more the barriers back. This also makes the last factor less dangerous: you're less likely to find a crashed car in your way and if you do you will have slightly more time. Probably the most dangerous thing in modern motorsport is when a car crashes and *then* gets hit, as all the impact structures have already been used up. It was this that killed Hubert at the same corner in 2019
Im a SIM racer and i have never crashed there even in heavy rain ☔.
Without the halos this would have been really really terrible..
How did they all spin on the corner like that
Elephant in the room, it’s the w series
I heard it was the lack of grip from the raindrops
This is like the wnba; nobody knows, nobody watches. I didn't even know about Abbie's crash 'till now.
Don`t you find it funny that they say everyones ok? Abbie has her back cracked and out for 3 months
@@Anonymous-yv7vo she didn’t hurt her back from this crash it was a different crash later.
..........This is the exact same BS I just went through. The internet is definitely broken. From The Grand Tour comments I hear she's injured...I search that...get assorted crap, from good search terms...I get this unrelated to her injury crash #2 in the line up...and on and on...of course no footage from the injury crash EVER comes up.....and....what is going on with THIS story?......that's not rain...that's oil (or something).....and it's OBVIOUS....but the word oil is never mentioned. Something's going on here.

Seems race control is incompetent.
Could be rain. Maybe intermediates? Maybe caution? I dunno. I don't have the top notch weather report or the knowledge of local patterns.................
Crap management.
I think they are really brave.
Stunning and brave
Thank god we don't have to listen "drivers" screaming louder than crash
would certainly have been fatal to two or at least one driver (the one launching Beitske Visser)
All hail Halo 🙆🏻♂️

Moore got hit by a tyre there. :O

It's not usually the crash that kills drivers but tyres flying around after the crash. The tyres there were so close to drivers heads. Glad everyone made it, god bless.

Women drivers... Checks out
LMFAO it really is a group of chicks having an accident 😂 c'mon don't opress black humor i'm glad they are alive and kicking but i'm right
Yea, that was good. :D
When women drive... and people want to put them in f1 while they cant handle these cars 💀 tf you think gonna happen in a 1000bhp no abs or traction control formula 1 car with the rest all men who can actually handle the g force
Isn't this women from southern Africa lol she sounds similar to my friends 🤔
she grew up there
So this happened when women driving cars
No. Women’s drive has nothing to do with the crash. These cars are not aerodynamically designed to have drag as F1s. And when you watch the headcam footage, you’ll realize how hard it’s to see the corner. And the other thing was panic response. The tailgaters were trying to steer as soon as they saw their rival gotten crashed. So the car lost the traction. I’m sure you have seen worse accidents in F1.
@@thewhitesaucecompany but this isn't f1,it's f3 the cars are slower, less complicated, lighter and easier to maneuver. i got to ride in a retired f4 car and the visibility is low in those cars but the corners are still visible. if you compare it to normal f3, formula W is less skilled and more crash prone than formula 3.
They can barely drive a mini van
