Just watched his mini-biography again... just cannot keep away. He was so mesmerizing to watch. I saw Eric Lamaze at the CHI in Geneva after Hickstead passed away and a tribute was paid - I don't think I've ever cried so much in my life and with so many other people at the same time. A magical creature and personality that just re-enforces my love for these splendid animals. What hearts they have!
He was truly the best jumper I had ever met! I did meet him once he was so sweet and gentle but a bit wild but I liked it! He was just a amazing horse! Rest in peace Hickstead❤ fly high🕊
Great tribute to a great champion! Thanks for this loving look back at Hickstead's illustrious career. I also appreciate leaving out the actual footage of his death. God knows theres enough videos showing that.
I was there at his last performance at Spruce Meadows. I can’t really explain it but there was something in the air when Hickstead took the ring. Little did we know he would be gone shortly after.
I'm watching this video, and of course I'm in tears. I was the craziest fan of Eric and Hickstead...what a TEAM!!! They were both outcasts, and they found each other. That's a one off, and I don't think that pairing will ever be seen again. He rides a wonderful mare now, and she's excellent, but it won't be the same soul match he had with Hickstead.
I love the video. I miss seeing him jump and just be "Hickstead". I hope Eric finds another partner like H again, but no other could ever replace the perfect match that was Eric Lamaze and Hickstead. May he RIP.
That's what I thought Keith...anyone with a heart would have knelt down and caressed and shown love to Hickstead in his final moments. I have no experience with horses but surely his rider could have given Hickstead some comfort at his life was ending.😢
A horse gives the better only if he is confident ... The man is also one of its predators. This relationship, once installed, should never be betrayed. Then your horse will be ready to die for you. "Pierre Durand said (Olympic CSO champion in Seoul, 1988, with Jappeloup de Luze, the little black horse with a lionheart). There is, I believe, nothing to add ...
❤Eric, he gave YOU HIS EVERYTHING, and so glad you had great times together. Extremely sad but profound how he died doing what he loved with you ❤🏴✝️❤️
rip hicktead. best show jumping horse in the world. forever. i was crying for more then halve the video. we miss you. you wil be in our hearts forever.
The moment when Eric Lamaze noticed that Hickstead couldn't get up any more was heartbreaking. This doesn't only happen to sport horses. It happened to a lesson horse I knew, after a relaxed hack with a young girl. She rushed to get help and when she came back with the instructor, the horse was already dead.
he was such an amazing horse. he always had great scope. one day if i can find a son or a grandson and get a Dutch Warmblood mare i would want to breed her to one of his colts!
No :( He died in 2011 during World Cup competition in Verona. He had an aorta detachment (something like that, I'm not entirely positive, how is it called). So sad...
Um, Tiffany? Hickstead had pretty awesome conformation. Just saying. The try on this horse was limitless. A heart bigger than all of Canada. He will always be missed.
I know, it is pathetic, where are the movies about horses like Big Ben that were true jumping champions that do more then just run around a track and i still think Totalis would make a good movie because he came out of no where
The only value this horse has to these people is how high he could jump and if he "could get the job done." Zero compassion whatsoever. I don't understand why half of people who work with horses have chosen this career path in the first place, as they seem to not love horses at all. And the sappy music makes it even more disgusting knowing he died for being pushed to the breaking point. Eric Lamazes (his rider interviewed here) showed him no compassion when he died in front of him.
