Homebuilt Racing Great job mate, I mean it. If you put the engine back in two years for the very first time, then definetly you're capable of putting it back in two weeks next time! A lot of people can't even change their engine's oil lol
I just subscribed. You are a brave man and I appreciate the crazy amount of effort you put into this. Can't wait to see the carnage and see what you do with it.
LegitStreetCars I have been following your videos for a while and youtube suggested this video and immediately started watching. Cool stuff in your videos and in this video. Was the track shown in the beginning same as the track that speed academy uses much?
He "removed" it in one day, not "stripped". Stripping, cleaning, and prepping an engine, all before building it, alone takes multitudes longer than simply removing it from a car. Especially considering most of the time on any deep work is spent on waiting for surprise parts/tools to ship that you didn't expect to run into, even after preparing for a particular job to be smooth... That's why it's so easy to make disassembly videos, over build videos
I accidentally came across this channel and loved the crazy unapproved ideas that works. Great work and boy I love your car so badly!!!!! God I'm in love with the turbo setups. Please don't abandoned this channel just keep them contents coming.
Bro, there's something so calming about your voice and slight accent. I love how methodically you narrate. I love your camera work and I love how you just go out and get shit done. Earned a sub.
I know I'm late to the party, but thanks for doing all this. I was planning to purchase an E55 to make a sleeper. Because of your channel I know what to expect, if I really do purchase one
Great video, subscribed. You're the man!! I daily a w211 E55 AMG, love maintaining it. Thanks for putting this video together, looking forward to the teardown!
VERY NICE WORK !!! Excellent format to your videos ! You narrate where most others play music while they work. AWESOME ! I would love to see a whole build with your narration. UA-cam is littered with people doing turbo LS motors and Turbo Hondas... It would be fresh to see somebody do a German car/engine build ! Of course we all know the difficulty factor goes up by a factor of 50 when dealing with German technology... Any way I just wanted to let you know that I SEE you !!!!!!!!!!
Wow man, that is a lot of extra labor. I pulled mine within 4 hours with a engine crane. Removed the radiator and fan only, left the entire front clip on. Good luck on your build. :) Look forward to it back on the road.
Rebuild using a normal m113 block and get better rods and lighter crank shaft for extra power. I would also port and polish the heads or at least polish. And do check the dry sump system. U did a great job and r my hero
That was very satisfying to watch. You deserve an 'intrepid' award for tackling such a serious project. I see Engineer in your future (that is if you're not already there). I'm very much looking forward to the carnage caused to your AMG engine; especially the engine block (- of Swiss cheese!) Subbed! Liked!
Sweet video, I got two E55 I lost my first one in a fire drivetrain is good which I need the engine in my other E55 that has a bad head gasket, I’ll be using this video to swap engines, thank you for the video
In this age of mechanics being fitters rather than mechanics I was wondering if Mercedes-Benz would actually strip such a motor to check the damage, or simply fit a new one. Great job ... rather you than me. :)
+rsx123, no it seems you are! They have the option of ordering a new block and the necessary parts, or simply ordering and fitting a new engine. That was my point!
what do you think about building a custom exhaust? less backpessure should help the spool of the Turbos ou plus you said tha tyou smelled burned cats aready... and another question, are you going to do some weight reduction later down the road? Like the parking sensors or heater matrix/AC stuff? I love your build btw, greetings from Germany!
I know its a good time to put some headers but still deciding on a few things. The AC system was already mostly removed. Other weight reductions were the panoramic roof, seats, interior, sound proofing, airmatic system, rear airbags etc. I think its 250lbs lighter than stock. Still a heavy car though
Very nice video as I am facing this job myself. 1 question comes to mind though. I have already removed my heads, headers and alternator. Would it be an option to just remove the trans at the bellhousing and disconnect the bottom end from the subframe? That way i would have only the engine out but not sure if it would be doable.
What did u figure made that happen, mine just did same thing, cut a perfect line through my oil pan. Hopefully this used engine is good I just bought. 760 bones. 72k , I just hope its good. Mine was running good, and I stomped on it, and bam, sounded like gunfire. Oil everywhere
BRUH this guy just removed the whole front subframe and drivetrain all by himself *in his driveway* without even an engine hoist. Beast. Any independent garage would charge close to 1000 dollars for the job.
Surprisingly there is alot of room between the back of the engine and the firewall. The hood standing up 90 degrees helps alot

Good job! 11:1111:46 I think that your brake disc is set incorrectly. The vents should be turned in opposite direction from the rotation of the disc. They do not need to grab the air. The rotation of the disc ejects the air centrifugally. In this case, these air flows oppose each other. An interesting place for turbos. Kind regards.
Freaking cool car! Sucks about the engine blowing. One question though, why did you remove the subframe with the engine? In my experience I always find it easier to leave the subframe in the car and undo the gearbox and engine mounts and use an engine crane to lift it up and move it forward.
You can remove it from the top if your engine jack goes high enough. Its a matter of preference. Removing the transmission wouldn't have been easy for me because the engine was locked in place at that point. This was definitely the easier option for me
SK8215 Ahh yes, and I see from other videos (and you mentioned it in this one too) that the front suspension was damaged so it made perfect sense. Great work on finding the root cause of the spun bearing. I personally find that it takes a certain type of individual that builds modified cars to have a unique understanding of what has gone wrong. Not everyone has that drive or talent to dig into the details like you have. Great work, all the best!
Wow, I'm exhausted just watching this. Brave is not the word. I would be loosing screws, forgetting what cable goes where and taking lots of pictures. Then I would be living at the auto parts store buying everything I lost, broke and supplying the missing tools.
The motor blew from a hardened O ring on the oil pickup tube. I'm concerned I may have the same problem. Can you remove the oil pans on a CLS AMG while the engine is still in car?
Yeh, usually you have to remove the subframe to remove the oil pan. I would say install an oil pressure gauge or warning light first. You'll be able to see low oil pressures if there is a problem
Great job!!! I have to pull the motor on a E55 just purchased. Looks like there is plenty of room to pull the engine from the top with an engine hoist. Is it possible to remove the motor with that method?
Yes, should be possible. There's two bolt holes on the supercharger where your supposed to add a bracket and two lifting points on the back of the engine. Let me know what condition you find it in. Would be interesting to compare. I just took my 2nd engine apart completely. Wasn't in the best condition but still rebuildable. I'll post a video on it soon.
SK8215 any chance you have a good crankshaft and harmonic ballancer your willing to part with. I got a great deal on the car but needs the crankshaft replaced. Previoous had a lower pulley installed. The shop did it incorrectly and messed the crank snout.
How much dose it usually cost to rebuild a transmission, my 04 has been sitting for over a year Cause the trans started to shift hard and even slipped on me and went into limp mode , tried a new conductor plate but same problem .
The parts are not that expensive, it's just labor mostly. You can find used ones $400 these days, but make sure it's not an electrical issue first. Rear wheel speed sensors or impulse rings also cause the same thing.
Have really enjoyed your e55 build videos. Was/am really looking forward to the tuning with the twin charged system. Don't know the limits of the alusil block. MID sleeves? Forged pistons? Good luck in any case.
I was thinking forged pistons before but I ran the car up to 15psi on pump gas and everything was fine. I believe even on stock internals it will manage 20psi with race gas or water/meth injection. There would have been a big benefit going with aftermarket pistons if the compression was lower but they're the same compression as stock anyways.
Oh. My. Goodness. I've started taking the engine out of my E63 (head bolt failure) and there's no way I'm dragging that trans with it. Plus, I noticed you don't have the A/C stuff to deal with...
I watched this video a while back but i recently changed my transmission on my w211 e350 and now the new transmission won’t shift gears. It stays in second and doesn’t shift manually with paddles or automatically. Idk what i did. Do you have any advice to give me?
The transmission might be in limp home mode. Are the shifts also harsh moving from neutral to drive? Check all the wiring, the fluid level and sensors. Even a bad wheel speed sensor can cause it
Hi, great job with the build. Watched it all and awesome how u pulled that engine. U think your engine might have been starving for oil? I believe I was seeing around 1.7G at times when u were taking the turns on the track? Keep up the good work.
just seen the previous video. i dont think that you will step down on your track experiences. i know its easier said than done but you should really consider getting a dry sump system. since you will do more and more track days in the future and maybe visit tracks that are even more punishing for the car id consider totally swapping the engine for a m159 or m178.
the m159 should fit quite easily since the "almost same" m156, although it does not feature a dry sump system, was factory fitted into the facelift E55 known as E63
I dunno maybe it’s just the OCD in me, but....BF GoodRich,...and and big ass Pirelli sticker about the Goodrich’s, gotta fix that dude. Other than that, amazing work man.
You dont need to remove so many things. Basically gear box bolts off. Exhaust. Engine mounts gearbox mount electrical connectors and u done. Lift it up with an engine crane
It works well if you keep the boost levels reasonable but when I started going more extreme the AFRs gave a bit of trouble. I didnt get to test it long enough to see if I got everything fixed because the car would throw O2 codes at times. I think it would be much easier going FIC for ignition timing and standalone for controlling injectors.
SK8215 cool thanks for the reply. I'm doing a twin turbo setup on the v6 and was curious. I wonder if it will pass emissions if tuned right and made to look stock🤔
I believe it should as far as the car doesn't detect your changing the fuel trims. The o2 sensors in these cars are really picky. They seem to detect every change you make to the AFRs
SK8215 did you wire the o2 sensor wires from the fic? I believe you wire those when you need to trick the o2 sensors when you make adjustments. If I've read the instructions correctly
The most difficult part is whatever change you make to the fuel table should match with the o2 table. That's difficult to get right. That's why I'm thinking might as well go standalone for managing fuel.
This vid is quite informative, such a shame that it had to be done under these circumstances. A few months ago I actually googled if dry sump oil kits exist, and could one from the m113 SLR be fitted on the E55, because I feared this might happen with the amount of downforce and grip you were pushing. If a dry sump kit were fitted, could the engine be lowered in the engine bay for the lower centre of gravity, by the way? Do you have any idea what you want to do next? I'd rather see another mercedes engine in the car instead of an LS swap, but an LS swap would definitely be feasible in the US due to their ubiquitous status. Thanks for the vid, keep up the good work!
Yeh an SLR pump would have been an amazing option but it costs $12,000. The pump from the AMG GT is much cheaper so I might try to go with that if theres no other option. Definitely keeping the M113k
You are brave! I did this to my Subaru once and it took me almost 2 years to put it back. ))

SK8215 And thank you for the video, good job. One of the most interesting video for a while for me! Subbed for more!
Little did you know
Legitstreetcars, wow can't believe you actually type and even send a message 🤷♂️🤷♂️
Beastmode for being able to do this in one day
reddyuda and record it
**strips an entire freakin engine alone in one day**
“Yeah for one person I guess it’s kinda difficult”
Understatement of the year
With the right skills and determination anything is possible. I do swaps all the time and it can even be fun.
He "removed" it in one day, not "stripped". Stripping, cleaning, and prepping an engine, all before building it, alone takes multitudes longer than simply removing it from a car. DIY level, Jedi.
pulls that huge engine all by his own in his uphill driveway within one day. claims "its a fairly easy thing to do" lol
Mike F yeah. I had enough trouble changing a starter in my Clk500. I can only imagine how much it sucks pulling the engine
Mike F right? This guy is a badass mechanic

I am from the future, you are going to find a broken o-ring on the oil pickup tube.
hahahaah
Wow, a lot of work for one guy in one day. Good job. Good video, keep them coming. Thank you.

i thought this would be like a one month job, but just said it wasnt even a whole day haha wtf, great job man
Another great video by you!
Haha, that is LITERALLY how you PULL out an engine.
Great 👍 job!
Your a maniac who really gets stuff done ✅
probably cheapest and best solution for now to buy regular m113 and put aftermarket forged con rods and pistons and rest parts from amg engine.
That was very satisfying to watch.
You deserve an 'intrepid' award for tackling such a serious project. I see Engineer in your future (that is if you're not already there). I'm very much looking forward to the carnage caused to your AMG engine; especially the engine block (- of Swiss cheese!)

its an army tank engine!
In this age of mechanics being fitters rather than mechanics I was wondering if Mercedes-Benz would actually strip such a motor to check the damage, or simply fit a new one. Great job ... rather you than me. :)
Are you dumb? The block is destroyed.
+rsx123, no it seems you are! They have the option of ordering a new block and the necessary parts, or simply ordering and fitting a new engine. That was my point!
Wow beautiful car. I hope you get it fixed quickly...
69 impossible perfectionist freaks!
"No a whole day..". You are a new legend sir.
This dude is a f@$king BEAST. Kudos on doing this on your own, holy shit!! I 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Not bad,, hopefully it comes back together as easily as you took it apart!
Meanwhile i hope for some upgrades while your down in there :)
Renger Hoekstra nothing easy about how it came apart...lol
1man, 1day, just a few rusted bolts, pretty acceptable if you ask me
Putting everything back together is a different story
Showing some love. I respect your determination!
Doing this ALONE on your driveway? I subbed, I work on my car on the parking lot alone too, I replace shocks and brake rotors but this is savage.
im in the same boat blew my n54 swapping it myself this week hope everything goes well!
what do you think about building a custom exhaust? less backpessure should help the spool of the Turbos ou plus you said tha tyou smelled burned cats aready...

Red Beard's Corner its both, he have two turbos in the trunk
do you still use the car on the road at all? That would open up your highflow-options masively in the exhaust department?
Always a pleasure to watch your videos, thanks 😁
Lovely V8 block, nice video!

Would it be an option to just remove the trans at the bellhousing and disconnect the bottom end from the subframe? That way i would have only the engine out but not sure if it would be doable.
Yeh its possible. Just unbolt the torque converter by removing the small plastic cover on the oil pan. There's 6 bolts I believe

Strictly Come Driving more than 1000.
Yeah, $1000 to take it out AND put it in. Thats not unreasonable. Roughly $100 an hour. Whats the problem?
1000dollars is understated especially for a V8 Merc engine!
You make it look and sound easy.
Surprisingly there is alot of room between the back of the engine and the firewall. The hood standing up 90 degrees helps alot
Good job!
11:11 11:46 I think that your brake disc is set incorrectly. The vents should be turned in opposite direction from the rotation of the disc. They do not need to grab the air. The rotation of the disc ejects the air centrifugally. In this case, these air flows oppose each other.
An interesting place for turbos.
Kind regards.

Sorry correct. Air flows from centre of disc outward.
This is the direction of the centrifugal force. We just said it in different words.
Freaking cool car! Sucks about the engine blowing. One question though, why did you remove the subframe with the engine? In my experience I always find it easier to leave the subframe in the car and undo the gearbox and engine mounts and use an engine crane to lift it up and move it forward.

could you maybe take a picture of the jackstand? i want to see where u put the jackstands under the car. thx

Yeh, usually you have to remove the subframe to remove the oil pan. I would say install an oil pressure gauge or warning light first. You'll be able to see low oil pressures if there is a problem
Ok not the news I wanted t hear but it is what it is. Great videos and have turned on several Merc owners to your channel. Thanks again.
Love your vids!
Engine skills = God Like!
Either you don’t live at your parents anymore or they’re super understanding.
How much dose it usually cost to rebuild a transmission, my 04 has been sitting for over a year Cause the trans started to shift hard and even slipped on me and went into limp mode , tried a new conductor plate but same problem .

You can pull it out from up top in about an hour and half
W211 e500 swap to a e55 amg engine ...is it worth it?
LOL ...Turbos in the trunk! I love it! But tell me, doesn't this engine have a compressor?

Thank you so much for the input. It does shift harshly and yes i figured it would be in limp mode. I’ll look into it and thanks again!!!!
Dude is a beast
Ahh, to be young again. I have trouble doing this job with a lift and a full shop! I am 61 years old :)
hahaha
Good stuff. Killing it!
we're yu ever a technician? and how are u gonna deal with the broken subframe bolt
Have you done a broken sub frame bolt I have 1 on my e55
Hi, great job with the build. Watched it all and awesome how u pulled that engine. U think your engine might have been starving for oil? I believe I was seeing around 1.7G at times when u were taking the turns on the track? Keep up the good work.
I believe its oil related because usually bearings dont go out that quickly. Will find out for sure when I take it apart.
Good stuff man. I think im gonna pull my motor this way. Screw a cherry picker
Brilliant engineer
Did you ever rebuild it ? Greething from Germany ..
just seen the previous video. i dont think that you will step down on your track experiences. i know its easier said than done but you should really consider getting a dry sump system. since you will do more and more track days in the future and maybe visit tracks that are even more punishing for the car id consider totally swapping the engine for a m159 or m178.

subbed, brave man, the m113 is a tough engine. What the hell happened to cause that amount of damage?
What’s the AEM for?
What are you doing remove mercedes engine no need subframe to remove and brake what are you doing?
You dont need to remove so many things. Basically gear box bolts off. Exhaust. Engine mounts gearbox mount electrical connectors and u done. Lift it up with an engine crane
No air conditioning?
How is the aem fic 8 with Mercedes? I purchased one for my slk350 but haven't installed yet

Wow! Luckily gravity of your driveway helps you to push the engine back in.
The lambda sensors on the E55 uses the same connector as the oil pressure sensor on rover K series engines. What a cruel twist of fate lol.
omg, I don't know how he is going to put that all back again!
This vid is quite informative, such a shame that it had to be done under these circumstances. A few months ago I actually googled if dry sump oil kits exist, and could one from the m113 SLR be fitted on the E55, because I feared this might happen with the amount of downforce and grip you were pushing.

Yeh an SLR pump would have been an amazing option but it costs $12,000. The pump from the AMG GT is much cheaper so I might try to go with that if theres no other option. Definitely keeping the M113k
SK8215 Sounds like a plan, can't wait to see it being rebuilt!
Love the video, just one thing, those xxr rims r only 600 bucks lmao not expensive. Great work tho. I want to do this swap also
Not all heroes wear capes
LOL This would of taken me like three weeks, I stress when I need to change my brakes lol
