The opening theme, called "WKRP In Cincinnati Main Theme," was composed by Tom Wells, with lyrics by series creator Hugh Wilson, and was performed by Steve Carlisle.
This is SO MUCH more true than ppl now will ever realize. To make your way up, you HAD to move. Plus all the stereotypes were true! The narcissist salesman. The clueless owner. The one crazy dude who did morning drive, the one stoner who did late night, & the stuck last generation news person. The bimbo secretary (who was actually smart), & the program director whose job it was to keep everybody sorta on the same page. I lived it back then; my ex-husband was an on-air personality. Moved 13x in 3 yrs. Yeah, it was awful. No, I couldn't stick, even tho I loved him...
I worked a ton of radio stations and I agree. I have seen a lot of radio stations. Egomaniacs, idiots...and underappreciated people that were holding it together and knew more than the sales manager and GM...and idiot owners on top of that. Been there, done that.
While this show was very funny to me, a sibling who worked in radio at the time found it outrageously hilarious. "There is more truth in that show than non-radio people will ever know!!"
Clear Channel and Iheart Radio pretty much ran a rusty coat hanger through the business. Now it is canned, with automation malfunctions and limited creativity. I got sick of it. How many MY PILLOW and ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION commercials can people tolerate. Obviously, quite a few.
Check that funky bass line. Whatever happened to all that funky bass? We're no longer based these days, we've lost all that funk.. we've lost all that groove.. we've lost our soul.
This was my absolute favorite show during the 70's..... ❤️.
Especially the song, of course.😉
I love how sad the lyrics are compared to the upbeat music. Truly one of the best theme songs.
Great line: The price of finding me was loosing you.
Lol the best...
Or, losing you. Sorry, had to make a loose comment.
Damn autocorrect. 10/30/2022
The bass player is killin' it in this song!
Maybe we were never meant to be, just think of me once in a while... love this!
This song has been stuck in my head for the last few weeks. Who knows why? Anyway, had to come to listen. Didn't realize it was a full song!
Oh oh the old ear worm, few weeks ago for me it was, it must be rain drops..lol yikes kinda freaked me out...
Same here.. song was playing in my head after decades of not hearing it.
I can take a wild(n out) guess and say it was Chico bean on 85 south that brought the glue to stick on that song on your head.
Sure brought me here
I loved the songs from the 80s TV shows. Especially hill Street blues and welcome back cotter and wkrp in Cincinnati
Heard Chico and The Man today, right after this song lol

The business was brutal, moving was the key to success . Only about 5% of the on air personalities actually made what would be considered a living

Absolutely correct. I worked in the biz back when it was actually a career
Best. Show. Ever.
WOW! Time has really flown since 7th grade!! =D
Great TV theme song. 70s soft rock style.
RIP Frank Bonner.
Also Gordon Jump and, most recently, Howard Hesseman.
I heard.
Never knew this was a full song
I miss real local type radio channels with real DJs. This wasn't real, but could have been.
