I didn't like being in locks with the big commercial boats that kept their engines going to keep the lines tight. The worst was in a large lock going north from Antwerp heading for Yerseke. The lock keeper lady came on the radio and suggested mooring against a barge and the Dutch skipper was very welcoming, even sharing his coffee pot. Mind it did help having an infamous Dunkirk Little Ship from the 1940 evacuation.

Wat deed die grapjas met dat kleine bootje daar achter de rembrandt van rijn? Die had moeten wachten tot dat vrachtschip in de sluis was voordat die naar binnen mocht.
