    I have the 5320 and it came with the Red Light Camera warning where it announces when you are approaching an intersection that is photo enforced. Saved me from a photo ticket.

      +Greg Toope (Cruis'n Canada) It is not great in sunlight. I have not found one that is unfortunately. I suggest you try a visor to block direct sunlight. Perhaps we may have stumbled upon a a patent here? Thanks for your post. Be safe on the road and RIDE ON!

    saw the 5235 on ebay for a good price. been looking for a gps for my on/off road motorcycle. does it have set ways? very important for finding new trails

    • @Tobinindustrial
      @Tobinindustrial  9 років тому

      Joshua Kyle You might be looking for a handheld GPS like the ones they use for geocaching. Unless thetrails are covered by Satallite maps in your area they may not show up on this unit. These units typically cover Highways, tool roads, arterial routes streets, avenues, and other roads that a car or motorcycle might use. As for off road, I am not sure what trails would be covered.

    how is this GPS in taller buildings and tall trees will it get lost signal?

    • @Tobinindustrial
      @Tobinindustrial  5 років тому

      All GPS units are susceptible to "Line of sight" to satellite at this time. They need to find a way to broadcast the GPS signal through more than one source. Perhaps FM radio data or repeater tower data may work. Every GPS I have used has the same inherent signal problem with mountains, tall trees and tall buildings. The only way to cure it by the usual means is to have more satellites up there to cover the bad reception areas we may encounter. I hope that answers your question. God bless you and thanks for the comment.

    • @Skyethur

      @@Tobinindustrial As far as I know magellan GPS has WAAS signal (Wide Area Augmentation System) this is a land coverage to assist satellite but i dont know if magellan installs it to all products it used to be on older devices

    This may sound like a stupid question, but I saw someone review on this saying that they had to continuously put a new destination in when entering a new state whilst travelling from like one state to another. Can't you just enter the address of your destination state from where you're currently at? I'm pretty sure that's the reason you have a GPS in the first place.

    • @Tobinindustrial
      @Tobinindustrial  7 років тому

      Absolutely, I live in Newfoundland Canada and if I put in NY State, it takes me to the Ferry across the gulf, then t proceeds the shortest distance into Maine and then down through the Eastern Seaboard until I get to the specific destination. I have mine set up for North America and that is default if you purchased in Canada or USA. Let me know how you make out. Good luck, safe travels and Merry Christmas.

      Definitely return it my friend. It should work while being on USB or power supply. You got a warranty if it is new. Return it all in box for refund or exchange. You may need the receipt. Some Walmart's may only give store credit if you don't wish to get another. Anything you do besides charging it and trying it will void any warranty.

    I was a US buyer. I enjoy having the alternate to Garmin just to have different logic applied to routes. I felt that I wouldn't be in a train of cars all using Garmins. It had a logic to its multiple destinations I could live with better than a Garmin of similar price at the time. The unit starts up and you're at the map, unlike Garmin (without tinkering with Garmin settings, I suppose.) The One Touch quick destination menu is useful. I enjoyed this unit for a few years. The first firmware update was awesome. Brightness and sound controls were added to the map screen. However. I in no way got my full worth out of it. Something about the second of the map updates offered made it slow down searching to dangerous levels. You're never sure if the key press registered. Key press to the address search and you wait over 30 seconds to get the screen. Each letter key press has a delay anywhere from 15 seconds to over three minutes. At that point, waiting forever, you know it has locked up during the address search. No way can I get it programmed while driving like I use to rely on. But even sitting on a desk I can't get the unit to search an address without a struggle. This year, Spring 2016, it now locks up during a journey. So yes, lifetime maps and traffic but not a lifetime of use unit.

    • @Tobinindustrial
      @Tobinindustrial  8 років тому

      +Cynthia Clavey Very interesting issues you have Cynthia. I do notice the slow down but it is nowhere near 30 seconds for function use. I think you might need to reload your firmware update. I do a lot of travelling by car and travel 1000's of KM's and I seldom have freeze or slowdown issues. My only complaint is that in certain sunlight the screen is not so visible. Thank you for your comment and good luck with the GPS issue. Please let me know if you solve your issues.

    • @cynvision
      @cynvision 8 років тому

      +Andy Tobin I'm expecting there is a lemon in every collection of GPS's. As this issue is now causing so much trouble for me, I had a look at the GPS memory through the desktop application and it says 99% full. I'm somewhat sure that this could be the main problem. I would love to know how to reload the firmware and maps. The updating application is not showing any map update or new firmware (apart from the buy-in update of red light cameras.)

    • @Tobinindustrial
      @Tobinindustrial  8 років тому

      +Cynthia Clavey I would contact support and see if they could send you a digital flash and instructions that you could download on a jump drive and get your unit back in good order. I am sorry that I have no information or digital programming for this unit. Good luck. Keep me posted.

    • @Tobinindustrial
      @Tobinindustrial  7 років тому

      I did my update exactly as recommended and gave the unit the time to complete every step and it worked flawlessly. Sadly, I did not do a video on it. Is your GPS functional and just not getting the updates or has it crashed? I am not sure if there is a newer update for mine yet but the last update was a few years ago believe it or not. Maybe you have the updated version and it needs none at this time. That being said, I know there are roads in North America that have been built recently that are not in my GPS. Sadly, they don't post updates every year. I am not sure why but I guess it would mean updates every 3 months and a lot of people would be crashing their systems without the proper procedure. They don't want chronic complaints in the public and want their systems to be working flawlessly to support more sles $$$$.. That's what I think. The updates are a little difficult to do and a lot of headaches from owners would result. They are playing it safe I bet. Just my opinion.

    Do you still use this GPS? Tried updating in July, and somehow it screwed up the internal files - my guess?? It apparently updated the maps, but, it doesn't seem to find maps and says "address search not available" when I try to do most things?? Looking for original files to reload to see if that would work!! Customer Service is totally useless! Thanks

    what is the map version you have currently? mine is version 58.01 and magellan cant keep up with their map updates this map is in 2Q/2014 data very old. DOnt buy magellan if you are looking for frequent map updates because sometimes magellan updates more than a year.

      +Andy Tobin you can check the map version under product info on settings menu.. well for now it's ok for you but what if one day you are in a hurry and you realize your gps is off the map are you gonna wait to get lost first before you complain for map update?... i did not know magellan is poor on map updates i cud have bought garmin which updates once every 3 months.

      @Tobinindustrial  8 років тому

      I hear you. I have a great sense of direction.I typically just use my GPS for estimated times of arrival and distance left to destination. I agree that they are poor on updates as I know of new streets tat are not on my maps. if there is a venue to file a complaint, let me know. I didn't know they were gonna be slack on updates neither but I do like the setup and functions of the unit. I prefer it over Garmin. I have had no experiences with other ones like Tom Tom

      There's a new magellan map update just right now June 15, 2016 version 61.6.... I bought new used garmin already and I can tell magellan has more accurate signal when it comes to high buildings and under bridges navigating but what I like garmin is that it has constant update and theres a lane assist even on just regular road, my magellan only has lane assist on freeways.
      Magellan pros: cheaper but great features, strong signal, fast reroute/calculating, has bells alarm when to turn. voice prompt is loud and clear.
      Garmin pros: bright screen, bright color easy to see in sunlight, traffic update is constant and reroutes you and accurate traffic, updates map every 3 months, lane assist even on regular road, auto zoom in and out on maps where you need to see whats ahead automatically (magellan only zoom in on when you turn), mount is easy to attached.

    • @Skyethur
      @Skyethur 8 років тому

      I have own magellan since i think 2012 and they only update twice a year sometimes once a year and even they have new map some of newer open stores were not on the map and before there's a website for you to send to magellan the exact address that was not on the map but right now I think they remove that. I like my magellan but lack on map updates even though the road is not changing much but new buildings and addresses are constant changing thats why i move to garmin and it's my first time use gps aside from magellan.

      +Ruby Dobby I don't do reviews because so much is expected and so much has to be covered and critics abound everywhere. I manage well with my unit but may not be the best person to do a review. I leave that to the professionals. I generally just do overviews of different pieces of equipment I have. I am sorry my video fell short of your expectations and I do appreciate your comment. In reference to your comment. I find all GPS units are the same. They are interactive so you just click on what you want it to do according to the screen icons and the keyboard allows you to enter specific addresses and names. I guess for some a demonstration is very helpful and I regret that this video may have been disappointing to you. I suspect you have a similar unit so if you would like me to do a video demonstration and post it here, I will do that for you. Let me know. I can do that for you no problem if that would help. I will certainly try my best to help.

      Further update to previous comment: Sorry not a review or a how to video. I typically let the pro's do that. i merely do a video of items I buy or barter for. i am not qualified to do a proper review so I seldom do reviews. My apologies. Check with your user manual to learn how to operate this unit and use its many functions. Good luck and thank you for your comment
