Should have showed the Grammy's from the year after, when Metallica DID win, and Lars Ulrich started their acceptance speech with "We'd like to thank Jethro Tull for not putting out an album this year..."
Lol
Yeah, if they had and it was as good as Crest of a Knave then Metallica would have lost again.
I believe Paul Simon said the same thing in 1975, when stevie wonder did not release an album (stevie had won the past few years)
The funny thing was, Metallica won it for the next few years. Not that they didn't deserve it but I think they were afraid to vote for anyone else.
Huh?, JT was doing flute shred b4 anyone.
"What was the rude word?"
"...shit"
"Was it really? Good heavens!"
I died laughing 😂😂😂
Never gonna forget that
What a fucking rotter.. the way Jones just spits it out literally makes me cry
"...😔shit😔"
I remember when Manson did that at the VMAs. People lost their shit. They thought it was the end of the world.
@Mouse cop Yeah Manson is super deep and cryptic.....LOL! If you're 13.
if only in the 80s they had Slayer or Venom on stage on mainstream TV lol
this was shocking only for the mainstream audience because metal always had a ton of imagery and themes that can shock
@Mouse cop Touche
@Joseph Nickelback
You must be fun at parties.
Christians are so much fun
These sure were the greatest moments in rock history but I’ll never forget the Hi Axl Hi Axl Hi Axl 🤣🤣🤣
"Wheres axl?! Hi axl!"
Dave 😂😂😂😂
Znus Wumriken asshole
Znus Wumriken shut the fuck up
I agree but it shouldn't have been higher than Dee Snider
You forgot to mention that John Denver helped fight the PMRC. Dee Snider, Frank Zappa & John Denver fought this group. As a metal fan, I will never forget how a Folk singer helped to stop censorship.
Very solid points. I might go watch that court case or whatever clips I can see from that tomorrow. Good points. Censorship effects all writers, artists and freedom of speech. There should have been people from various backgrounds in music and the arts to represent that stance.
Jello Biafra too
@Cher White
Exactly, thanks for reminding us all.👍
I did not know that
John Denver’s Rocky Mountain High was one of the songs under attack.
Freddie could've started a riot by just raising his eyebrows.
@George Gershwin like your parents who couldn't properly raise a child
If we're talking Nirvana, I definitely prefer Krist knocking himself out with his bass!
The legendary bass toss
Kurt kicking him up the arse didn't help either.
Nirvana has so many incidents on stage.
You are Matthew Clarke!
@@matthewclark7952 👋
Really did not need to censor Marilyn Manson at that part. Is this a metal channel or what?
UA-cam-Guidline BS, i guess they dont want it to be removed
Well for a metal channel it's not very metal, I would call it more of a mainstream rock channel
apathetically lethargic then fuckin leave what the fuck
The original video was already censored like that
It was censored on TV
Even Alice knows that Metallica should’ve won.
+Ethan Hopper
Shit, even Tull knew Metallica should have won and I think they've even stated that before.
That's why the Tull guys weren't there. They figured Metallica would win. It was just kind of a general assumption in the whole music scene. Nobody took into account that stodgy old people made up most of the voting panel on the grammy board. And old people back then absolutely HATED Metallica. I guess one of the many reasons I loved them so much.
I saw Jethro Tull in concert after that and they had fun with it, the dressed up 20 guys in trench coat who all played cut out guitars. Unfortunately the Prog Rock community normally has incredible skills than never gets them any credit, just like jazz.
The funny thing is I've always been a fan of both groups. I just didn't see the twisted logic or justification in that grammy incident. It was like comparing apples to shoes.
100% agree with you, I think that they wanted to piss off Metallica in the worst way possible with a band that has a lead flautist. And wanted to acknowledge Tull but didn't know exactly what category to put them in.
Queen were already rock gods when live aid took place.
Kanye West performing Bohemian Rhapsody was more remarkable moment in rock history.
Kalle Hansson True..
U2 actually became Rock Icons at Live Aid..
Bad 🖤
@@Rekko82 Kanye shouldn't be mentioned in the same book as Queen kid! lol
@@MorrisseyMuse His music is just samples from classic rock songs with autotune effect with some dumb lyrics.
Yes and no, Queen were kind of out of the loop. They played Sun City which made the pariahs (in spite of insisting the audience be mixed) and the fall out from that spilled over into people protesting against them even being at Live Aid. That performance basically relaunched them from what was their lowest point, and should have propelled them to new heights over the next decades (unfortunately Freddie's illness prevented that)
Marilyn Manson: "Do you want to be in a place with a bunch of ass!!"
Me: "Maybe I do"
🤙🤙😂
Amylee Cunningham 😂 same thing i thought!!!
i do and im tired of pretending i dont
Fuck yeah I do!
Absolutely. Marilyn is correct, it’s your choice ,rot in Hell or choose life and accept Jesus Christ as your saviour. Simples🙏
Jim Morrison saying higher on the Ed Sullivan show? Cmon man
Yessssss!!
that is the ROCK MOMENT in my mind.
YES!! THAT SHOULD'VE BEEN #1
Hi, Joe Biden.
😁
Fuck YES
Man the impact The Beatles had in history just from that one tv appearance. I do wonder sometimes what would happen had they not come along in the history of music!
Also Marilyn Manson lmao
Ahh ye I agree with ye there!
If only...
@el Guapo Go listen to American rock and roll from 1963 before the Beatles arrived. Rock and roll was pretty much dead with manufactured, clean-cut Justin Beiber-type teen idols and that's about it. The Beatles were like the big bang of rock.
@Joseph Nickelback really?
Indeed, let's not forget the likes of Elvis . And would Ozzy have been able to bite bats it it weren't for screaming jay Hawkins climbing out of coffins with a bone through his nose! Respect for the pioneers.
I miss danger and chaos in Rock and Roll.....
Rock n roll is slowly coming back
+beep boop not really. It's as dead as JFK. Kids today are all about that trap and soundcloud rap shit.
I shat on the carpet. Hope my mom doesn't notice. It ain’t dead, sure it isn’t mainstream but that doesn’t mean it’s dead Also it a genre of music, when has a genre of music ever stopped?
You'll find that in punk rock.
I do not have hope for the future of rock n roll. Kids today are more into joining the fad than discovering the new thing
Anyone notice how rock stars are smarter than most?
Especially Manson, his IQ is 160
@@jonathancastiglione6399 he is sick fuck
@@clearbluesky7973 Didn't ask
@@jonathancastiglione6399 nah he isn’t as smart as he thinks he is. he’s just not afraid to say what’s right. but he comes off too much of an edge lord
@Da gorrilaa oh the irony in that statement...
Was expecting Metallica playing 'So What' at the MTV Awards, although the Jethro Tull moment is pretty… "remarkable" too.
Flute guys.
nmlss So what… Ha ha that song always puts me in a better mood when I’m fucking pissed
Tull is really good, don't call them flute guys you brute
I like Tull a lot, but Crest of a Knave is hardly their best work and really didn't deserve any award IMO
nmlss I definitely really choose Metallica for the award but Jethro Tull still is a rock band that has been around since the late 1960s early 70s I believe. But Jethro Tull is an old school progressive rock band and I definitely am not sure if they deserved the award or not. But either way it’s just the way things work, happen, come around and go around every day.
While Pete and Keith breaking their own gears,John held his bass in his arm tight
He always looked at the rest of the band, watching them tear shit up and he had a look on his face like, "Holy shit!" lol. Man, he was one AMAZING bass player!
Something about bass players, John Paul Jones was pretty much the mellow one in Zeppelin.
He's also using a hollow body so if they broke it and glued it back like Pete did then it'd never sound the same.
Typical bassists. Always staying out of the weird stuff that everyone else does.
Kind of funny that when Axl broke his legs few years ago, Dave let him use his guitar throne from when he broke his own leg.
Dee Snider is always a smart man
He looks like a drag queen.
I could watch that pmrc footage any day. He just tears everyone a new asshole with brilliantly thought out counterpoints.
Thought it was elegant Elliot offen
Yepo right and super right
He put them under the blade of such a sharp written statement
Tommy Lee playing the drums while rotating is the most iconic in my opinion
I agree.
Historic but not as historic as him pushing Pamela into the water at their wedding. Can you be more serious?
Wow, the best thing about being old was that I experienced the Ed Sullivan show. I know a lot of younger folks don’t understand how HUGE that moment was…
0:55 you could see Alice Copper’s drop when he saw that
That _Alice Copper_ really knows his metal!
☺😀😁😂
Krist letting his bass play him was legendary.
Queen’s Live Aid concert has to be in the top 5 recorded concerts of all time, past and future
If it's rock we're talking about and TV spots specifically then Queen at live aid is probably the most iconic set ever played by a true rock band. It was a perfect set.
Alice Cooper and Lita Ford...I'm in heaven😍🤘🏻
She's a nut job.ask her kid's and ez
NOTHING beats Queen at Live Aid, as much as i love the Beatles
As much as I love Queen the Beatles appearing on American television is more historical in my opinion as they literally inspired bands such as Queen so that kinda gives them the leg up.
thegoodbrother246 you realize Queen is a british band right ?
Yes I know that Queen is an English band but I don't know how that has anything to do with what I said?
thegoodbrother246 "appearing on american television influenced them". Why the heck would they care about american television at all ? They probably appeared on british television before that.
You took what I said and completely misinterpreted it. What I said was that the Beatles appearing on the Ed Sullivan show is one of the most historical moments in rock history and THEN I said that the Beatles deserve to be in that top spot on this list because of how significant they were in the rock community and just the number of musicians and bands they've knowingly or unknowingly have influenced throughout many many years. I never said "Queen seeing them on Ed Sullivan influenced them". I'm sorry if the way I wrote it came off as it did but yeah that's totally not what I meant or wrote. That quote you used isn't even what I said in my comment.
Thanks for not making your lists longer than 10 minutes like literally every other UA-camr!
I remember when the Manson thing happened on live TV. It sparked a revolution, it was a big moment. I mean it sparked a revolution among stupid little high school goth kids, but a revolution none the less.
And thus, the creation of Lil Uzi Vert
🤣🤣🤣
I'm surprised Elvis on The Ed Sullivan show isn't on here.
Yep, and only showing him from the waist up was pretty scandalous.
Or Jim Morrison &. The Doors
Not trying to start a riot, but The Beatles were more notable.
Aesthetical Twat doubtful
@@GrimmBreezy
More people recognize Ed Sullivan through the Beatles than even Elvis, himself.
Queen were rock gods the day they were born
Lock ODonnell no I'd say a little before that
Lock ODonnell I would say the same because of Bohemian Rhapsody and so on and so forth. In honor of Freddy Mercury is definitely no doubt and no question about that. May his legacy with Queen remain strong forever.
3:36 Steve Severin and Siouxsie Sioux ( the blonde) there behind!, they formed a band a couple months later called "Siouxsie and The Banshees", Post Punk pioneers and founders of the Goth Rock movement/style along with "The Cure" and "Bauhaus" in the 79' - early 80's.
2:53 lol my boi Entwistle standing there like "wtf why"
Freddie is just pure magic
I like how y’all acting like Queen weren’t Rock Gods before Live Aid
Its because of that stupid movie
Ikr it’s sad that people don’t really pay attention to their early work.
@@etangbose4755 Wayne’s world was actually what brought some of queens songs to be big such as bohemian rhapsody, that song wasn’t popular until Wayne’s world came out
@@dyinnpad Yeah and that scene almost got cut out too but Mike Myer fought for them to keep it.
They never were.
Fear on SNL is awesome
Audiences are awesome. These days people just have their cell phones on their hands and filming for insta
I always wondered if something like that ever happened and they answered that.
I remember the PMRC hearing solidifying Dee Snider as one of my favorite people in the world.
The Beatles on Ed Sullivan show should always be number one, that is a moment in rock history every band knows and admires
They were never a “Rock band” more the boyzone of their time
@@blackvegetable563 well they inspired many heavy groups so I guess no matter how heavy a band is a rock band is a rock band because remember each decade is different, so for the 60s they were rebellious, today’s time is pretty lame when it comes to hard rock so really what difference does make honestly.
I agree!
Why? The only thing standing out is bunch of girls screaming.
I remember having the vhs tape ready to record when Manson came out. Now THAT was a moment that made teenage me very happy!
im a simple person. I see marilyn manson i click.
Emo
DUR BUR DUR!!!!!!!
I'm a bored person. I see this tired comment, I groan.
Samee
Ελενη Βλαχακη you’re just a simple person.
Alice looks so dead inside when seeing jethro tull won..
What an amazingly well put together compilation.
"Hi Axl, Hi Axl" Dave Grohl is still too nice!
When that Manson speech and performance happened, my parents finally understood why.
Nirvana!!!!
It's actually kind of shocking to go back and see footage of the fans' responses to the Beatles back in the day. Pretty sure the sight of people fainting during their shows was a common occurrence.
One you forgot: Jim Morrison and the Doors singing the correct lyrics to light my fire. Also, as runner up, Slash cursing on live tv not once, but twice during an acceptance speech.
YES number 1 totally deserves it place
Every incident from #10 to #5 I saw happen live on TV, and the rest I've seen countless times as archival footage. There could have been no other fitting candidate for Number One on this list. And having Fear's appearance on SNL - the night that turned me on to punk rock forever - kick thungs off? Priceless.
Great video!
Freddie!
That explosion tho🤣 lmfaoo
I read that the explosive charge had been set in the bass drum earlier and wasnt meant to be anywhere near that big but Keith Moon sneaked onto the stage when no one was looking and added a load more.
😅
3:20 John looking like Fred Weasley I see
I like the fact that the last note of the beatles song transitioned into the outro of Loudwire.
Dave has always been the spunky one of Nirvana in my opinion (and all his other bands)
“HI AXL, HI AXL, HEY AXL!!!!!” 😂😂😂 I love it sm
The Sex Pistols interview is often cited as outrageous at the time. Funny to see just how silly and tame it is and really always was.
It's cause the host said something to the girl behind them so they went off on him 😂 using insaults that was popular at the time like rotter
Marilyn Manson is great
Kurt Cobain we are simple, we see Manson, we click like 😊
Kurt Cobain You are dead.
Hes so edgy
Hi Axl!!! - Dave
*was*
Cool compilation
Bro The Beatles one sounds like it could’ve been taped yesterday that’s how crystal clear the audio is
The saddest part of this is that you will more than likely never see any more ground-breaking moments in rock history ever again. The fate of music today is delegated to tired hip hop , tweenyboppers, and one-hit wonders ..
Queen reaffirm their place as rock gods.*
thats not the show they became gods. they always were
All of these moments really makes sense as the greatest rock moments live in TV history
I'm so early. This video hasn't been reuploaded yet.
I'm a simple person
I see MM, I click
@Rebel Spy Same! He is our antichrist!
John Entwhistle - "Don't touch my bass. Please don't scratch it."
After the Beatles appeared on Sullivan they take over the whole world.
Every Nirvana moment is legendary
Thats true
Queen were rock gods before live aid i gotta make that evidently clear
true... but they became ultra rock gods with that live aid performance.
Queen was a legend years ago before the live aids event. Marilyn for the sweet caring man he is in reality Manson for his dark side role on stage.
Hi axl! Greatest thing ever!
i like how the first one is considered a 'riot' lmfao
I remember that Manson performance like it was yesterday Chris Rock after go to church right now or your going to hell lol
Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert should be on the list
That is probably the _best_ tribute concert ever recorded.
@@amerocker I agree that it’s the best tribute concert and it was also for AIDS awareness, but I’d say top 20 at least.
Not a rock listener but these videos are quite entertaining.
im glad to see queen so high in a loudiwre list!
Long live Keith Moon and his antics.
2:50 john entwhistle is just like what are you peasants doing?
MTV tried to censor Manson but only succeeded in censor the word "holes". 😄
This is neat...very neat.
That Fear performance is bad ass I would have loved to crowd surf
I remember watching Dee Snider taking on Tipper Gore and the PMRC
I love how metal musicians often confound authority figures by their unexpected intelligence and eloquence...
"Was it really? Good heavens!" 😂
I love Marilyn Manson honestly. He didn’t give a fuck what anyone thought. He did what he wanted.
Jim Morrison???? "Light my fire" ???
2:05 thank you for that
I got goosebumps on the Queen part.. I want more than anything to be on a stage, head banging as hard as I can to some deathcore in front of a huge, moshing crowd 😅
Can't leave off Elvis on Ed Sullivan
ZAPPA is always absent from these lists ...One of the SMARTEST rock musicians ever.
i love manson so much
Yeah, i'll agree on #1 for sure.
Queen was an rock legend before queen was even an thing in the uk
Queen at Live Aid yeeeey :3
#10 I never seen that before.
I can’t agree more with this list.
0:10 riot? No that’s normal moshing
Not on snl it aint
This was posted on my birthday!
BTW I'll be 14 this year
This was preceded by a very upbeat ad for Red Lobster, which just makes me laugh.
ive watched the video for hey ya so much i stg when the beatles started playing all i could think about was andre 3000
I would never include MM in anything labeled “Greatest” he simply jumped on a train that had already been rolling for a long time!
Who did it before him? GG Allin? He wasnt nearly as big. MM was literally American moms biggest fear. The biggest villain of the 90’s
Doesn't matter if he was new on it. He's the most feared celebrity we ever have and no person will be as powerful as he was back then.
