I only remember the old late '50s and early '60s Perry. Instead this version seems to be some kind of Maltese Falcon deal. So why not call him Sam Spade? That could make an interesting series.

A Russian Spy and a Clone
I stopped watching this because they made him washed up private detective, and he nothing like the original Raymond Burr he was the best lawyer and show he ever played
It seems odd they'd use the name of a famous fictional lawyer, unless this (1940s?) character is a young Perry Mason... eh. I'll pass, not enough reason to think about subbing to cable TV.
Think it is from the books and the tv series was more for family prime time . As this is like a Noir tv series for adults only
@@kathyfugere6085the prequel series isn’t based on any of Erle Stanley Gardner books….they all take place with Mason as an established criminal defense attorney. I totally agree with the OP, this series is so off-the-wall and inconsistent with the Mason we know in the books and original TV series that they could have called this show “Young Matlock” or “Young Denny Crane” and nobody would have thought it was any more unreasonable.
Depressive and twisted, no humour, screwed a great story completely

I’m sorry but nothing they can write as further story can get me to believe this character would become the one we see Raymond Burr play in the original TV series. The vulgarity and really rough around the edges personality of this “early” Perry Mason just doesn’t fit.
