Lana M In Maori culture it's a way of showing respect, the haka is used also at weddings, gatherings, welcoming officials, etc. The Maori philosophy as I understand it is the haka should be intimidating and fearful, as it shows they are taking you seriously and see you as an intimidating and fearful adversary in a very warrior like culture. This is typically followed by the most intimate and warmest of welcomes (the Maori Hongi) in which case they touch their nose to yours, invite you to eat food with them and you'll see a complete flipside when they accept you and truly treat you like part of their family, it's a very humbling experience. As for your "people are not idiots" comment, well you are if you pass judgement without knowing all the facts. Completely your right to do so, as it is anyone's right to be stupid if they so choose.
Yes. The test of a side facing the Haka is not how they DISrespect it, but how they respect it. A side that stands quietly, with dignity, while facing the Haka is one that has confidence, and the right to be on the field. One that tries to play silly posturing games............ Gah!!

In Maori culture it's a way of showing respect, the haka is used also at weddings, gatherings, welcoming officials, etc.
Gah!!
For some reason all I can think about is the Dothraki Vs The Lannisters and how badly I hope it would have started something like this. Seriously tho, love the passion and power these guys have. Great energy.

I love learning about other countries traditions \ ceremonial dances . I first started watching haka a few years ago when a co-worker told me of her heritage she was from a small island out in the south pacific . She showed me video from her phone of her traditional ceremonies. This is how you learn about other cultures it is sooo neat.

Good job guys.Note how the crowd loved the haka.No booing or trying to sing and trying to drown it out.As a former Kiwi in Canada they MABS did us proud.
Craven Morehead Canada is very respectful of these kinds of things, I'd be shocked to see a Canadian crowd be disrespectful in anyway to a country who does something like this as it would be that countries tradition. And also both countries come in a way from the same mother country England as both were a colony meaning they do have a good relationship.
Craven Morehead Canadians would never do that brotha.
I was at the game and the Haka was one of the best moments. Everyone got there early to make sure they didn’t miss it.
