    ABSTRACT
There’s no such thing as the perfect programming language. I’m sorry, but there isn’t, and I’ll explain why.
On the other hand, if you were set the task of designing the perfect language, how close could you get, how would you go about it, and what would it look like in the end? We’re going to explore this problem space with a tour along the bleeding edge of modern language design, giving you some insight into what’s already out there, what tradeoffs each new idea comes with, and what sort of tools you might be working with in a future where programming is slightly less awful than it is today. We are currently releasing older YOW! videos to serve as a valuable archive, preserving historical content. It is possible that a video is perceived as outdated. We believe it offers insightful glimpses into the past, enriching our understanding of history and development.

My current favorite language is F#. Garbage collection, resource management, immutability by default, higher order programming, friendly type system are all aspects of F#. It is open-source and multiplatform. It also supports currying and piping. Tooling is nice. If you need performance you can write lower level code. With dotnet 7 it can be compiled to single executable native code (with llvm). More people needs to hear this and try F# :)

I love Bodil's talks - her style is so smooth and relaxed that her talks almost feel like meditations.

Similar to my own thinking. We have a slightly different set of tastes, but the essential concept to exploit familiarity is spot-on.

Coffeescript is a great language. I don't understand why it got out of fashion.

I was just about to come here and express nostalgia whilst also trolling the entire software development community by yelling "Cobol!!!" But you beat me to it! :)
Hey... two Cobol fans in one comment section... is that a world record?

@@edgeeffect Yes ! and with the older COBOL programmers retiring and .... well, companies are paying Big Bucks for COBOL. Have you tried GnuCOBOL on you Mac, or your Windows, or you Linux box? Easy to install and FUN to run and learn or relearn .
      SourcForge has GnuCOBOL. Powerful.
