SSFR - Two Structure Fires *Helmet Cam*

During the weekend, SSFR was dispatched to multiple critical emergencies throughout the area. While an isolated thunderstorm was making its way through the county, SSFR responded to four critical emergencies overlapping each other. Crews started the evening with two separate car accidents, both with entrapment. While preforming extrication on the second MVC, units were dispatched to a residential structure struck by lightning. Engine 129, and Engine 121 were released from the MVC to handle the third incident. Shortly after responding, units were paged to a separate residential structure fire. Ladder 127, and Rescue 117 were diverted to the structure fire. Engine 129 arrived on scene of the third incident to find a single story residential structure with fire showing from the attic. Mutual Aid companies were requested to assist, as there were now two residential structure fires. Units responding to the fourth incident were updated en-route that the residence was also struck by lightning, and smoke was reported visible from the residence. Rescue 117 arrived on scene of the fourth incident to find a single story residential structure with nothing evident from the exterior. Upon further investigation, no signs of fire were found in the residence of the fourth incident. Rescue 117 and Ladder 127 returned to service from the fourth incident, and responded to the third incident to assist. Upon arrival, the rescue and ladder crews were placed on deck at the alpha side of the structure. Shortly after, crews were assigned to the interior to preform overhaul and check for fire extension. SSFR units operated for a total of five hours on all four incidents before returning to service.

SSFR is a combination department in East Alabama staffed with a 24/7 paid EMS crew, and three paid firefighters Monday - Friday during business hours with volunteer firefighters completing staffing during all hours of the day and night. SSFR runs approximately 3,000 emergency calls annually.
