I was reading through Acts 1 when I came from the casting lots to replace Judas verse. I’ve always heard this phrase but never understood it. Thanks so much for the clarification! Very helpful and beneficial information to better help me understand my readings!
Thanks for saying that. I never thought about how a shirt could affect the message I was trying to give from the video. It is just a bull from "the Rock's" clothing line. But I had never thought of how that could be seen by others and cause a distraction. I will keep this in mind going forward, so thank you for bringing it up. Most of my shirts now days are just a plain color anyway, so I think this has mostly solved itself, making it even easier for the future!
I cast lots by ASKING A QUESTION... Then flip the pages of scriptures (WORD OF GOD) until I feel like stopping. There is always an answer. I either get it on the exact page I stopped or within the chapter. Very rare do I need to do it twice for an answer.

Your efforts are much appreciated. Where you are also getting it wrong is that casting lots is a divinely sanctioned act, that was introduced by way of revelation only to the house of Israel. The lots were special stones that were used like urim and thumim and specially dedicated by the presiding priest for the job. Casting lots was priestly function. About the holy spirit after the day of pentacost actually eliminating the practice is a matter of personal opinion. When Mathias was chosen for his Apostolic office, the chief apostle Peter directed the casting of lots. Satan has also corrupted this process with counterfeits but for this process to fully function, it needed the priesthood of God, dedicated lots and a clean heart with faith in christ.

Maybe, at times, the Holy Spirit would lead you to cast lots. First and foremost, just like with all the stories in the Bible - those casting lots served the Lord - that relationship is paramount to everything else. I have a question brother. I ran across something that was very intriguing about the Holy Spirit in that same scripture. In Acts chapter 1 it states in verse 16 that Dave was used by the Holy spirit and it says that the Holy Spirit Spoke through David. Does this mean that the Holy Spirit was not guiding the Men of GOD at that Time? Because it clearly states that the Holy Spirit Spoke through David?
Great video Chris! This is a tough topic and will continue to be debated. I believe the casting of lots and other forms of approved divination in ancient Israel falls under the umbrella phrase- "Inquire of the Lord." I believe God chose to use the cultural practice of lots and certain divination (dreams, Urim and Thummim, Ephod...) because that was a part of the ancient Israelite milieu. This does not necessarily help us answer the question of the legitimate use of it today. Numbers 5 is particularly interesting as God gives a ritual sign for discovering whether or not a wife has committed adultery. This is an example of a revelatory sign (divination) which God himself instructed the people to use. Clearly, there are passages that forbid certain types of divination and magic (Deuteronomy 18), but these passages are all in the context of preventing the Israelites from falling into idolatry. The form of divination practiced by the cultures around Israel did not seek Yahweh as their divine source of inquiry but sought other gods. We see this in the story of Jonah for example. What are your thoughts on this?
Made my bible study a lot easier. I always came across it but never took the time to research it. Thank you for helping it make sense. Nice and straight to the point

Can you provide a scripture reference for why we no longer cast lots? Or is your statement based on conjecture? I think you may agree that we have many Christians claiming a ‘word from God’ concerning things and it seems to often be much bunk in the end.

Great video and I appreciate your sense of humor. I looked and the bible uses the word for casting lots (at least the one in Joshua 14:2) 67 times in the OT PS love the tattoo on your arm for your Megan.
We did casting lots when choosing and appointing Church Leaders. With anointed prayers from overseers and other appointed elders and pastors 🙏 i mean, some churches still believe that God speaks through this medium.
Before they casted the lots in the book of Acts was the Holy Spirit given or not?If the Holy Spirit was given then it should not be a thing of the past.It is still applicable in our days. Thanks
Where is the direct command to use the holy spirit to make decisions? Or what scripture are you using as proof that casting lots is prohibited? I've been asking this question my whole life and I've never heard a good definitive explanation on why casting lots is forbidden. To me it all still seems like a matter of opinion. I know we learn through command, example, and inference, but we clearly have an example of apostles using lots to make a decision without any qualms about it and no clear evidence not to use it. There are several deep explanations of why we don't sacrifice animals anymore, or have the temple anymore, why we don't have the ark anymore, why we're not circumcised anymore, etc. but nothing specific about using lots or not. Even if we pray to God just looking for providential answers, we're still looking to God to give us an answer one way or another. Its just that when we pray for an answer through Gods providence or the Holy Spirit, you never really know if it really is an answer or not, its just guessing on what a particular event means but we don't really know. I cant tell you how many times Christians have prayed for something and an event occurs that seems like an answer to their prayers but then something changes the answer and everyone is like "well I guess that didn't mean what we thought it meant", or "God works in mysterious ways". If the Holy Spirit is giving us guidance, answering questions, then he is being very esoteric about it. I mean, are we going to burn in hell if cast lots? Is God restricted from answering us if we cast lots? Sorry for the long question but I'm just looking for answers.
Good word. When the disciples casted lots the holy spirit hadn't yet fell on them. Once the holy spirit fell upon them on the day of Pentecost, they now had the guidance to be led IN THEIR actions and choices by the gift given to them: the holy spirit. ACTS CHAPTER 2.
I understand leaning on the holy spirit, but it seems casting of lots would be doing to same, but in a physical answer.... Is it by chance or is God making a decision? We wait years sometimes for answers and the answer might be right in front of us the whole time. Seems like a way to narrow it down. I have no problem with it.
Thank you for providing this info into a entertaining video, please continue on creating and spreading anything like this because this is very useful in such research and in understanding more about some bible details. May the good Lord bless you more, not just in here but also in your personal living.😊
Good demonstration of casting lots. I had wondered what that might have looked like. Concerning what we should do today - It appears the Bible teaches that we can find the answers regarding God’s will in the inspired, written word of God. 2 Timothy 3:17 says that all scripture makes “the man of God complete” and “furnished for every good work.” So from what I can determine, the word of God should always be our source for determining any question of faith. As for any urging from the Spirit that we think we are feeling in our hearts, we must be careful with that idea. Jeremiah 17:9 says “the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked; Who can know it?” Apart from the written word of God, how would we know that our feelings are from the Holy Spirit? How would we know that they aren’t from another kind of spirit…like the enemy, for instance? From what I can determine from the Bible, the only way to know for sure is by seeing if what we have determined in our hearts to do is in any way in contradiction with what the Bible tells us to do. If we go with the Bible answer in all matters of faith, we can’t go wrong. If we go with our feelings, we could find ourselves far adrift. “There is a way which seemeth right into a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” -Proverbs 14:12
You should address oftentimes people confuse their own will with Holy Spirit. I love what you asked. "Either to stay in this church or not" is a constant struggle I have been asking, too 😂
Casting lots IS biblical and it’s also seen in the NT or new covenant being done on 5 different occasions. It’s not pagan necessarily and it is not wrong to do so. God doesn’t change and if it’s in His word for Gods people to do then it’s acceptable by God because he put it in His word for Gods people to do.
Like dividing land, deciding priests, replacing Judas -- Couldn't God have just been saying: To prevent argument, just select in unbiased open randomness. I don't see God directing the stones or whatever.... God's express will was that everyone saw it was genuinely random. When Jonah was accused - that wasn't Godly people. Jonah was the one who was supposed to be Godly. They may have asked, "Am I the cause of this trouble?" YES??? Let me ask again, are you sure? NO! SEE!!! it's not my fault after all!!!! Then they stopped when it said it was Jonah. We do not KNOW for sure that God was directing those lots either.... But Jonah told them IT WAS HIS FAULT!
This is the standard overly idealistic response that all preachers give. The question that they can’t answer is, when did God renounce his lordship over the lot?
Thanks for putting out a video on casting lots. This was discussed last week in a Bible study, and then this morning I was reading the casting of lots for Jesus’ clothes. Thanks for the insight.
I wonder if a person has a choice to make an important decision, like which job to take or where to move, or whether or not to make a purchase, would a prayer and casting flipping a coin would be a legit action so that the decision is left to God?
I think it's better to be guided by the Holy Spirit, the word which tells you how you should be and what you should do, and prayer instead of leaving it to games of chance that the enemy could use against you. if you wanted a job and it doesn't go against what we're taught, I'd pray about it, and if you don't get the job, then you'll eventually get a job somewhere else that may be in God's will you may have many jobs throughout your life or maybe you only have 1 but it's important you follow the teachings wherever you go
I'm sure it's helpful if you need an immediate and clear answer, obviously before the casting of lots you would pray and ask God for guidance and Holy Spirit. and that lot cast will come from God guided through the Holy Spirit. David says all lots casted come from God and it's also not forbidden to do so.
hmm, Proverbs 18:19? Did I say that somewhere?? If so, can you timestamp it for me because I don't believe Proverbs 18:19 speaks of casting Lots and I don't think I would have used that verse for anything (at least intentionally, unless I misspoke a verse). Thanks, Craig.
It sounds to me like an agreed method of settling disputes. Especially between friends and siblings or a group of people. It is still practised now. However it's not divination

What if you threw them and got a Y and an N... I also read that the Urim and Thumum in the OT has a similar word as lot so that was another type or example of using lots. Seems strange in today's world huh, but interesting.
I don't remember anymore. I remember wanting it for this purpose and knowing I was going to make this video...I searched around but I think I might have ended up getting it off Amazon.
Hypothetical thought: You have a decision to make that you are indifferent on either way. Half of your counsel says one and the other half says the other. It’s not a right or wrong decision, but it’s a decision you have to make. AND the Holy Spirit isn’t giving clear directive. In this case I’d say casting lots is ok.
The Bible is what the Holy Spirit uses to help us come to a decision. I’m not saying that we can’t see God’s will from things around us, but it must be backed up by scripture.
Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the LORD came upon David in power.
But David cast lots in 1 Sam 23 even though he was filled with the Holy Spirit.
Holy Spirit is the spirit within and upon. David operated under the spirit upon.

when the messiah came to earth and ascended to the father... he left the holy spirit, the spirit of truth, we don't need to cast lots, because the spirit of truth Is alive and it speaks.
Thanks...very clear understanding...eas just reading book of Esther 3:7... Got the clear meaning of casting lots
Great video and I appreciate your sense of humor. I looked and the bible uses the word for casting lots (at least the one in Joshua 14:2) 67 times in the OT PS love the tattoo on your arm for your Megan.
Thank you for the comment and kind words, Mrs wage!
Thanks
In your explanation you didn't mention what it means if both N & Y were to appear. Did they do the same as if two blanks appeared 🤔
So basically it's an ancient version of the Magic Eight Ball.
Beyond ignorant on the subject…
Good luck resolving a dispute when 3 people claim the “Holy Spirit” all told them something different.
Very helpful!
What do you do when asking the Holy Spirit for guidance, you get nada, even after prayer and meditating on His word, you get nada?
basically this is from proverbs 16:33 before it was performed in acts
Ive seriously wondered about the whole process and you helped cleared it up. Thanks bro!
Thanks for making it easy for us
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for putting out a video on casting lots. This was discussed last week in a Bible study, and then this morning I was reading the casting of lots for Jesus’ clothes. Thanks for the insight.
A+ video!
Thank you so much for explanation and demonstrating that!
I wonder if a person has a choice to make an important decision, like which job to take or where to move, or whether or not to make a purchase, would a prayer and casting flipping a coin would be a legit action so that the decision is left to God?
I think it's better to be guided by the Holy Spirit, the word which tells you how you should be and what you should do, and prayer instead of leaving it to games of chance that the enemy could use against you. if you wanted a job and it doesn't go against what we're taught, I'd pray about it, and if you don't get the job, then you'll eventually get a job somewhere else that may be in God's will you may have many jobs throughout your life or maybe you only have 1 but it's important you follow the teachings wherever you go
If you are electing elders and deacons, if each person have different answers from the Holy Spirit?. How does that work?
In my Bible (kjv) the verse is Proverbs 18:18
Thank you, its very elaborate and clear. Thank you and God bless you
At 2:38 you cite Jonah 7:14. I'm really curious to know what that verse says. My Bible only has four chapters of Jonah.
Where do you buy those lots? I looked for them on eBay, I can’t find any.
God will is in the random and chance. If you leave things to chance it allows God to interrupt.
Thanks brother. It help me understand my question. Thanks for your explanation
Great content and editing! Keep up the good work. God Bless
I'm sure it's helpful if you need an immediate and clear answer, obviously before the casting of lots you would pray and ask God for guidance and Holy Spirit. and that lot cast will come from God guided through the Holy Spirit. David says all lots casted come from God and it's also not forbidden to do so.
What Bible version are you reading? I read from the King James and there is no mention of Lots in Proverbs 18:19
hmm, Proverbs 18:19? Did I say that somewhere?? If so, can you timestamp it for me because I don't believe Proverbs 18:19 speaks of casting Lots and I don't think I would have used that verse for anything (at least intentionally, unless I misspoke a verse). Thanks, Craig.
@@ClarifyingChrist It comes up on your screen.
Proverbs 18:18
Good history. Interesting theory. But there is nothing saying not to cast lots anymore.
It makes sense. Thank you🙏
Awesome, glad it helped! Thanks for letting me know.
Thank you so much for the explanation!!!! Absolutely amazing!
Makes sense thanks, brother.
This was perfect!!. Thanks!!!
So glad it helped, thanks for letting me know!
Thanks for this video, quite informative. I guess you meant to write Proverbs 18:18 at 1:19 in the video.
This is good! This made me to understand better. Thank you!
Thank you so much for the explanation and illustration
Good informative video bro appreciative it
It sounds to me like an agreed method of settling disputes. Especially between friends and siblings or a group of people. It is still practised now. However it's not divination
Thanks for the godly insight!
Glad it was helpful, Amanda!
Thank you for your service. Good teaching
Wow, thank you!
In the Old Testament, it is mentioned 77 times and in the New Testament, it is mentioned 7 times.
Thank you! 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Wow , beautiful explanation earned a subcriber, praise the lord jesus christ 🙏🏽
You can't seek the will of the creator and use lots or "Magick"? The whole bible is full of Magick. You just have to know what Magick is.
It made sense
God bless you
This is GREAT! Well done brotha!
I WILL ALWAYS TRUST PROCLAIM AND LOVE MY ALMIGHTY FATHER JESUS CHRIST AND HIS HOLY SPIRIT...
I KNOW JESUS CHRIST IS ALIVE AND RETURNING...
I WAS IN A A COUPLE OF CLUBS ...THE SECOND WAS A NATIONAL MOTORCYCLE CLUB...JESUS CHRIST SHOWED ME THAT HES LOVES ALL EVEN THAT WHO WAS LOST AS LOST AS CAN BE...JESUS CHRIST told me to Drink From The Water Of Life...
I didn't know anything about any water of life...I know know what the Water OF Life is...I quit the club and opened up A BIBLE...I haven't a doubt about JESUS CHRIST THE SON OF ALMIGHTY FATHER GOD...
HE IS OUR ONLY SAVIOR. .
GOD BLESS YOU ALL....
What if you threw them and got a Y and an N... I also read that the Urim and Thumum in the OT has a similar word as lot so that was another type or example of using lots. Seems strange in today's world huh, but interesting.
Wait, so what happens if you got a "yes" and a "no"?
Helpful. Thank you.x
Love the editing btw.lol
No casting of lots AFTER Acts 2, because we now have the Word of God and the Holy Spirit.
Very informative video! Liked and subscribed 👍
Appreciate that..
Wonderful teaching on this concept! Thank you!!
It's mentioned 70 times in the old testament & 7 times in the new!
where did you get the bag ?
I don't remember anymore. I remember wanting it for this purpose and knowing I was going to make this video...I searched around but I think I might have ended up getting it off Amazon.
Hypothetical thought:
You have a decision to make that you are indifferent on either way. Half of your counsel says one and the other half says the other. It’s not a right or wrong decision, but it’s a decision you have to make. AND the Holy Spirit isn’t giving clear directive.
In this case I’d say casting lots is ok.
This really helped me. Great thanks
The Bible is what the Holy Spirit uses to help us come to a decision. I’m not saying that we can’t see God’s will from things around us, but it must be backed up by scripture.
Thank you so very much.. It did clarify and appreciate that
Same thing as tarot cards. Because of your faith and connection to God, God decides what card you need
Thank you for the explanations
The codeword for the unmentionable disease is "The Backstreet Boys Reunions Tour".
It does definitely make sense! Thanks!
That's great to hear!
Interesting.
Casting lots is usually to devide goods rather than gambling for yes or no answer
