A dynamic qb and good line play is the recipe for winning as an underdog. PSU has a qb that generally wont lose a game for them, but he's not going to be the sole reason they win. I believe wvu can do something similar to what gt did. Load the box on early downs and force them into 3rd and passing. I'll also add this- the guys you've had transfer in from lower level programs with high pff grades are likely what their grades reflect. Im a vt fan and several transfers from mtsu, nc a&t , etc have been great pick ups out of the portal and great players.
Hope you guys don't hate on me to bad just going to tell it how it is love my mountaineers and have personally shoveled alot of coal back in my 20s. From last year they had 3 big chances to show how good they were right against really good teams Oklahoma, Penn state, and north Carolina and went 1 out of those 3 changes. Plus they list to Huston and OK State, when they should not have. They did go to a respectful bowl 🥣 really good one that if you lose your conference tittle came the losser usually goes to and we went that bowl played a good team and one fantastic. The problem is now that Georgia tech won and up set Florida state, you best believe penn state saw that game and are perching to there selves that that nit going to be us. We have good team and are secondary is good but has not had time to play together which big deal played on sports into my late 20s so can tell you that time with team mates playing together is important. This will a much harder schedule and a real prove itvyawr for our team. Penn state is going work our dB and free safeties hard it will a big test for them, since they have great offensive Tallent, they a great defense to that have been together not counting our team out but we are still getting better and did not do well against great teams last year ans list to a few bad ones but beat the teamscwe should have beat and even took a step when we beat NC in the bowl game this year will really see what kinda progress they have made can the beat the better teams now we are a less than a week from finding out let's go mountaineers.
Great comment. I too am concerned that Franklin will use the FSU loss as a way to motivate his guys. You also make a fair point about the chemistry. PSU has less players that are new to the team, which should make a difference.
@CouzsCornerSports thanks agree not hating at all love wvu born raised here and they definitely approved over last year and I really enjoy this team and how they connected theirsevles off the field to however just don't want to act like there no room for improving this year or like they had a perfect year last year thanks for your time enjoy your channel seem like its one the few channel that if you like wvu but have some concerns or positive criticism that people are understanding here and don't just give crap saying your not real wvu fan if yoy don't think there perfect in every way every year.

Clearly Penn State has a great defense line an overall D. To score enough to win. Gonna have to block on offense really good. 6 days an it will be game time . If Penn St shuts down run game our receivers gonna need to get open. These things have to happen if we are gonna win.....
PSU fan here. WVU will keep it close, but you're not strong where PSU is weak. That and talent depth will be the difference. Plus this take assumes PSU hasn't gotten better at all. The change at OC alone will be a massive upgrade.

@@CouzsCornerSports T. Frank Carr has dissected this game already in the premium section of On3 Blue White Illustrated. There's a huge talent disparity that the portal can't mask. Keep in mind that PSU had a top 5 recruiting class in 2022, and they're all juniors now. Allar and Grunk aren't playing their first games like they were last year. And Coach AK has installed entire packages for Grunk that were not used last season.
PSU has not replaced the three Olineman who were drafted. But WVU doesn't have the pass rush to take advantage of it. And even if you did, there's nothing on film for WVU to study to see how AK would use PSU's talent. There's going to be a ton of presnap motion, RBs will catch the ball more (especially Singleton), TEs will be involved more, and QBs will run the ball more. Though it's still not great for a top 15 team, PSU has improved at WR as long as Tre, Liam, Fleming, and Omari stay healthy.
Will PSU have a top 3 defense again? No. Top 10? Yes. The secondary is actually deeper than it was last year. The D-Line will be among the best in the nation. The weakness is at linebacker which is why Abdul-Carter will shift back and forth from DE to LB. Again, not something you have on film already to prepare. And WVU doesn't have the players to take advantage of the LBs.
WVU can win by limiting possessions through running the ball and trying to force turnovers on offense. Also WVU's QB has to make something happen when he's out of the pocket against a great secondary and relentless rush. Allar doesn't do well with pressure in his face. But he still only had 2 INTs all last year so forcing TOs through the air will be challenging. I think if this game was played in week 3 and WVU had film on Coach AK and Coach Allen then I'd like your chances more. Plus we can't argue that chemistry is a problem for Colorado and FSU but not for WVU which also relies a lot on the portal. PFF can't grade that either along with the strength of competition.
Right now, WVU doesn't have enough top 300 players to rotate into the game for four quarters to win in my opinion. PSU is notorious for close first half games and then blowing it open in the late 3rd because their players are simply fresher. Teams like Oregon and Texas believe in headshots. PSU plays going to the body.

Andy Kotelnicki, the new PSU OC, is a GREAT offensive coordinator, I am sorry to say. PSU bought Andy by paying him outrageous sums to leave the fastest improving program in the nation, KU. KU will not be outspent again by anyone as we proved by keeping Lance Leopold over Nebraska, Wisconsin, and others. Kotelnicki's offensive strategy is vastly superior to the scrub PSU had last year. Hecwas the brain child of KU offensive juggernaut that best WVU at WVU2 years ago by outscoring them in a high scoring game. He was stolen from KU by PSU via robbery. Look out WVU. We Big 12 fans are ALL pulling for WVU and believe you can pull the monumental upset! Let's go Big 12! Crush these pathetic Big 10 boring football sleep fests like the fighting Jayhawks will once again annihilate a Big 10 pud in Week 2 by double digits in a non-competitive blowout!!!

If we can be effective in our pass game and our secondary can hold their own, I think we win. I think we will be competitive in the other parts of the game.
Im just not a believer in WV (think they will be 7-5 this season), but yes, of course, they do have a chance. I mean, the game is at home, and its not like they are playing Georgia.

Bartlett is our biggest loss I think in the portal anyway.
Really think he was very underrated and will ball out this year, but not against us because we know how he plays!
PFF is graded the same way at every level, but it's easier to be in the right position and make a play when you're competition is a lower level... This is the flawed logic.
Makes sense, but it’s still a good tool to help m adults how well a player performs. I’m not sure a perfect tool exists.
Excel lent job charting the players PFF grades. Some data to back up the chatter. Case concluded we are better, however what about Penn State? Have they improved likewise? I need a sure thing in order to bet and so you better tackle the other half of the equation. And as a receiver, I will catch you later.

I know PSU is more talented on paper. I’ve said that many times and have even predicted PSU to win for that reason. I just think it will be more competitive than many people think.

My kids are young and kinda annoyed by football but my son said "6 days until football" this morning and I may have pulled something in my leg after doing amateur jiu jitsu against nobody for a full 30 seconds in the middle of the kitchen.
