The circular area you pointed to on the bottom of the cracked buckets is the 'gate area' when the molten plastic enters the mold. If the injection pressure is not sufficient to pack the polymer before cooling, then that area around the gate will be a weak spot and if the cooling is improperly timed before releasing the piece from the molding tool then stresses in the polymer will eventually lead to the bottom area proximal the gate actually tearing apart. That's what you are seeing. Yet another example of how the cheap turns out expensive. The three 'gates' on the bottom of the bucket that didn't crack enables fast fill of the molten polymer and probably that molding facility follows more appropriate press cycles for making quality buckets.
Thanks for the info, sorry that happened. What a waste. Now I have to check all of mine. You don't need good grade buckets anyway, if you are putting food and water inside Mylar or food saver bags, as a barrier between the food and bucket.
When you put your storable food away ,Put in a food grade plastic sealable bag then put it in you bucket. On the site ,they said made in America, but the extrusion marks on the bottom and the amount of light showing threw the bottom it’s of very thin extruded plastic. Best buckets EVER was the ones from the big grocery stores that do baking and get the supplies of icing, syrups in these type of buckets, they are extremely strong ,and if someone doesn’t ask for them they used to be thrown away. These bucket holds hundreds of dollars in food products they are very strong. Clean bleach out reuse. Used them to store water, excellent use for them.1gallon to 5 gallon capacity.
I just bought 12 of this exact model yesterday and was planning on filling them Friday. They are going back tomorrow. Thanks for taking the time to do this video!
I had a different issue with Wal-Mart bucket they were collapsing from the sides so I switch I only buy mine from tractor supply so far so good but I am keeping a closer eye in my buckets
Thanks for heads up. Checked mine are leaktite.i will watch for cracks. I store my gamma buckets on planter stand with roller coaster wheels so I can easily move.
The square buckets are more easier to pick up and store in a corner they take up less space you can make two rows of buckets stack them High Enough and you would never know it also Square buckets are good to put on your living room floor place a board across them and put a tablecloth you have your own furniture made with your food storage and no one will know about it
Wow, the quality of those buckets is not what it should be. I would definitely take them back to Walmart. Make sure to check out Tractor Supply if you have one. I was able to get several buckets a few months back. You can order online and pick up in store.
thanks for this tip...I will keep my eye on my Walmart buckets... My Home depot bucket shattered on the lip, when I was tipped over....Never again , home depot buckets are like glass.,
Oh no! I just checked mine and all of them have only the one reinforcement It was sooo hard to find them to start. I got mine at Tractor Supply. Thanks for sharing.
And I was planning on purchasing some buckets at Walmart! Thank you for this vital information… I usually purchase my buckets from Azure Standard and the buckets have one large point of reinforcement, right at the very centre bottom.
😞 Sorry about all those buckets. I would take them back. It's a defective product. I had some do that too. Also, don't place directly on concrete floor. Put cardboard under them so there's no leeching and they're not affected by heating and cooling.
Thanks for the tip! I just started buying buckets and lids and I got the United Solutions ones from Walmart. Ugh- what a waste of money. I had the same problem with plastic garden pots from Home Depot a few years ago. They all cracked on the bottom almost immediately with no rough handling- just like your buckets. I would love to know what buckets the bakeries use as the wheat season globally has been diminished. What kind of buckets do the bakers use? God bless you. Thank you so much
I got buckets like that from Amazon in 2021 - same label and bottom. I keep the food I'm storing inside them in it's original packaging and actually just recently loaded them but I will check to see if they crack from the weight over time. To make things worse, in effort to find out how to get the adapter ring on the bucket as it's anything but "easy" for a lot of women, I happened to see another prepper channel from 4 years ago, (by Jims cool stuff - entitled"preppers beware") who tested the buckets for "air tight" by putting some water in them and tipping them upside down and the gamma lids leaked right away, not at the adapter ring, but at the lid you twist. If you look at the edge of the lid, there is a seam line with little bumps on it. He said that's what creates a gap and caused it to leak, and if it leaks water, it's obviously not air tight. He went to the store and checked different brands and they all had a seam that was similar, although some were raised more than others. Someone suggested smoothing the seam flat. I don't know...I think I'll just use them as storage containers for packaged foods. Thanks for posting this - like Roseanne Roseanna Danna used to say, "there's always something!".
I buy those same buckets n knock on wood, only had one blue bucket crack. Will keep a watch on all of them!!!!💞💞💞💞😺😺😺😺 n yes using as a grow bucket!!!!!
Yeah those cheap Wallyworld buckets don't have much support for the base. The three pucks also reduce the stress on the bottom of the bucket. I use jars and pack them into heavy cat litter buckets.
I purchased Leaktite buckets from the Home Depot and so far they're holding up very well. I also use the 5 gallon mylar bags and oxygen absorbers however, I do not use the gamma lids. I use the Leaktite lids with the rubber gaskets in them as well as the Leaktite reusable lids.
I just checked my buckets; all have the single center reinforcement circle on the bottom but my buckets are OK. It could be those cracked buckets were made from a cheap, low-grade, money-saving plastic formula? Thanks for the heads up. Consumers and end-users need to check EVERYTHING now these days. Beware especially of products without the manufacture's name on it?
I had a bucket crack. I try to get ones from restaurants or bakery. I will use food grade or regular buckets. I think if you store food in mylar then it is protected. If I store salt or sugar without mylar then I use food grade ones. I have even gotten the smaller buckets from a friend and they were food grade. 50 cents for lid and bucket. I can put 2 gallon mylar bags in them and some spices.
I've never bought any buckets at Walmart, I never had any problems with mine considering I live in hot climate. I've heard never stored your buckets directly on the floor. That's because the floor Temperature always changing. Pick them up like on those metal or home made wood shelves and if you have to put any on the floor maybe put a rug.
Hey friend so sorry about your dilemma just checked all the extra ones I had and yes I do have the one reinforcement ones with no cracks. Is it possible that you could have gotten those without looking at each one? Here’s a suggestion use those for planting food because u already have the water drain. U can purchase some kind of sealer for plastic and then line the buckets with white trash bags then put your food in the silver bags( forget what they’re called). Waste not want not. Just find a way to repurpose the buckets if Walmart won’t exchange them or refund your money.
terrible...I got mine at Home Depot and I can't even get the rings on!🤯I'm 65 year old woman,my hands hurt...a mallet won't even work...these have the one circle on the bottom...guess I'll just leave rice in the bags...I froze rice 4 days...70lbs...let out 4 days...now I can't even get rings on buckets😰🤯... another video shows that these buckets leak water therefore air get in anyway....these buckets you can barely find anywhere now...and they're over 8-9$
Can you just put Mylar bags inside the buckets? I bought one at Lowe’s Home improvement but the bottom is the same with one reinforcement at bottom but twice the price as Walmart.
If you apply duct tape on the bottom and sides of the bucket as soon as you buy them then they will not crack over time. Sucks to have to do that but when it comes to protecting your stored foods then it's a small price to pay. Good luck!
Thanks for sharing this information with us! It will surely give us the ability to check our buckets! I bought my food grade buckets at Home Depot, Lowe's and Walmart!
I buy the Tidy cat litter in the buckets what's the litter is all gone out of the bucket I wash it good and let it air dry then I pack it with the food I have a food saver machine now so I pack it all my Foods
I use buckets in my shed and around my homestead all the time. They normally end up cracking just like that. I plan on using them as planters. It’s a design flaw. I’ve gotten them from all kinds of places.
Hello from Phoenix! I get my buckets from firehouse subs for $3 I think. They sell their pickle buckets and it’s a lot of work getting the smell out but so worth it.
i use these blue un foodgrade 30litre barrels. i rinse them out, wipe em out and let the inside dry, then fill up to the rim and close the tab with the metal rim that comes with it. once shut, they are sealed... waterproof & airtight. i go no bigger than 30litres because of movement abbility...30kg of rice is not easy to move around😉 they have handles on the side and you can even stack those barrels... make video if you buy one of those👍🏾
This is good to know. I know with metals, often a cheaper material is used for part of it, but if part is steel they lable the entire thing "steel". I was thinking temperature change caused that.
Don't throw your buckets away even if they're cracked use of her your garden you can use them for indoors or Outdoors or your plants you can plant like tomatoes cucumbers
Bummer! I think because it was walfart. Things are not made as well there IMHO overall. I know a guy who created a tool. Was excited with them wanting to have it in their store. Then walfart told him to make it cheaper and use plastic instead of metal because they were not going to pay him what he needed to make it with metal. He chose not to make a cheap product for them. I have not shopped there in over 20 years. I have gotten mine buckets free from the grocery store bakery. The other store they sell them $2. Hold up well so far...some five years.
I bought some pet storage containers with gamma lids. I am really glad I checked them after a couple of weeks. They came with an odor which I thought was gone. Turns out they smelled like crazy inside and had to get rid of them. I was too worried my food would taste like that smell. Luckily Petco gave me a complete refund.
Hi and thanks for the question, these were fairly new buckets, bought with in a month or so. I dont stack my buckets, too much weight. I'm pretty sure it was the quality of the buckets, I now buy them from Tractor supply.
Hello my friend its longtime Zendaya pure from your videos except for everyone if you have a Burger King anywhere they get five gallon bucket you could go in and ask them if they still get those buckets with their pickle pickles in it some faces will give them to you for free and if you own a cat and you buy the big buckets of litter like I do I clean them out and use them for my food
Did you notice the good bucket was made in the U.S.A and the ones you bought that were damaged were made in China. " NUF" said. I have noticed that a lot of the products are made or produced out of China and they are sold through American companies as if they were made by the U.S. company. In fact the way the product is labeled it leads you to believe it is a product made in the U.S. you have to read the small print.

You can tell the difference between the quality in those two buckets. Quality matters. Buy the best and you only cry once😭
Thanks for the info, sorry that happened. What a waste. Now I have to check all of mine. You don't need good grade buckets anyway, if you are putting food and water inside Mylar or food saver bags, as a barrier between the food and bucket.

Good tip to check bottom , but I would take those damaged ones back 🤔
So helpful!!!!💜
Much appreciated!
*Please check your food buckets today ! Do not lose your food storage to cracked buckets.*
Thank you, good to know!

Thank You cheers from Pennsylvania Blessings 👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🙏🙏🎚🎚🎚
I just bought 12 of this exact model yesterday and was planning on filling them Friday. They are going back tomorrow. Thanks for taking the time to do this video!

Thank You For The Tip. Return them to Walmart. They will refund your money
Wow, the quality of those buckets is not what it should be. I would definitely take them back to Walmart. Make sure to check out Tractor Supply if you have one. I was able to get several buckets a few months back. You can order online and pick up in store.
My thoughts exactly, very cheaply made
Thanks for that , I want to check that store out we have one.
Oh no!! That really sucks.
Thank you for sharing
thanks for this tip...I will keep my eye on my Walmart buckets...
My Home depot bucket shattered on the lip, when I was tipped over....Never again , home depot buckets are like glass.,
Thank you for the heads up, its getting harder to find good quality food grade buckets !
Oh no! I just checked mine and all of them have only the one reinforcement
It was sooo hard to find them to start. I got mine at Tractor Supply. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your valuable information. God bless you.
Sorry bout your luck thanks for sharing, that will probably save a lot of people a lot of food!!! Definitely thanks for sharing
Thank you for the post
Thank you! Appreciate you taking the time to show this.
Wow, that is crazy. Now I gotta go check our buckets, Thank you!!!
Thank you
And I was planning on purchasing some buckets at Walmart! Thank you for this vital information… I usually purchase my buckets from Azure Standard and the buckets have one large point of reinforcement, right at the very centre bottom.

I have some burlap coffee sacks that i use to lay them on, great tip, much appreciated !
Dang!
i get home depot orange buckets and use plastic liners from amazon b4 filling. i dont worry about food grade.
90 mil buckets are much better than the 70 mil ones
Thanks for the tip! I just started buying buckets and lids and I got the United Solutions ones from Walmart. Ugh- what a waste of money. Oh wow never knew that. I’ll be checking what my buckets are.
Not sure if someone already said something, but don't store your buckets directing on the bottom, essentially cement. You want airflow underneath.
Bakery places will sometimes give away/sell those (they work cuz they have already been used). I'd take them back Walmart will return alot of things!
Yeah those cheap Wallyworld buckets don't have much support for the base. The three pucks also reduce the stress on the bottom of the bucket. I use jars and pack them into heavy cat litter buckets.
Go buy peel stick vinyl put inside to stop air.....
I had the same kind of food buckets that you have initially shown here-they are brittle and absolutely prone to cracking.
Do you have a Tractor Supply store? They have buckets
Great idea and thank you, I will !

WOW I JUST ORDERED 5- GALLON BUCKETS OH FROM WALMART. I’M HOPING THAT BE OKAY.
Thank you for sharing. Sucks on money 💰 you lost!

I lost two buckets of rice to that my self bought at menards.
😮😮😮

yes you can but with cracks in the buckets, its makes it easier for critters to get in

Is that chrome racks or stainless? How much durable is that?
Heavy duty 90 mil food grade buckets are all over facebook for sale.
I bought some pet storage containers with gamma lids. I am really glad I checked them after a couple of weeks. They came with an odor which I thought was gone. Thank you for that video I never would’ve guessed but why are you out looking if you have a tractor supply near you check their buckets out
Last time I called them they were sold out, Ill keep trying with them till I get some, appreciate your comment and your support !
Curious how long you've had the buckets and if you store the buckets stacked? Thx
Hi and thanks for the question, these were fairly new buckets, bought with in a month or so. I dont stack my buckets, too much weight. I'm pretty sure it was the quality of the buckets, I now buy them from Tractor supply.
@@SWPG Wow, thanks for the head's up!
They don't want you storing food cheap crap.
They look thin
I could see shadows through them
Tractor supply buckets other preppers are using them i got 10 buckets a month ago.
I think everything is started to be rushed
Holly Johnston I agree. Some of the PPE I wear at work just doesn’t feel right.
Bro, it’s a Walmart bucket. You get what you pay for.

I hate to say this but with their agenda for us ,is this poor quality or done on purpose?
Mine says made in the USA made in Canada. 65 mil
I hate when that happens!! Sure hope you took them back, made in China no doubt!...
Well it says made in the USA, must just be cheap material
So sorry can you send back?
No where they are made
