This is a video of my bmw s38b36 which I am restoring in preparation for engine swapping into an e30 touring.
I have completely restored the air intake plenum of the s38b36, showing the process step by step.
Steps include:
Strip down
Arrange hardware
Degrease/clean components
Zinc plate process
Mask and spray
Reassembly
Any questions please don’t hesitate to ask in the comments
What a great channel! For a noob with a S38b36 this is amazing content! Keep up the good work! Cheers from Norway!
Thanks for the kind words! Good engine choice😎
Was wondering where the 4 cables connect just outside the ecu and the thin white pipe that com from bottom then front of the engine under the throttle body it’s tiny thin plastic white pipe, wrapped with black strip…cheers
Brilliant job mate!
Thanks again😎😎 A lot more to come!
This is quality content. Nice job, mate!
Appreciate the kind words, thanks!
Need more of these kind of vids.
Luckily I have the whole engine to do to this standard, so there will be many more! Thanks man
Your voice...is amazing
Hello ! What paint did you use? Thanks !
This is VHT Wrinkle paint, great finish
Nice Casio
Where did you get badge from buddy
Bmw! I sourced the part number using realoem, then emailed my local dealer to order
Hello.
Do you remember the torque settings for the nut on the shaft for the Butterfly valve?
If i tight it hard the Butterfly valve seem to bind a bit..
Thank you
The nut should be a locking nut where it can be tightened just enough to hold the valve in place where it is free to move. I did not torque mine, just went until it was binding, and then turned it back til free again
Great work! Didn't realize how different this plenum is to my e28 s38. e28 plenums are made of one piece and way less parts!!
Yes! You are very lucky haha, would be much simpler to restore
Lovely work, I’ll bet that part wasn’t resprayed in the past. I’d guess the runs were from the cosmoline applied at the factory.
What was the part number on the bearings? Maybe you had that in the link of the other itb video but I’m too lazy to check...
That could of been true yes!
I used HKS08122RS for both this intake and my itb's, these are the exact dimensions and double sealed.
Bad E30 thank you sir!
Impressive
Thanks 😎
Finally!!! Now I know how to do that crackle finish ! Great video!
Glad I could help you out! It is an amazing product, have done the same with the cam cover and other engines, this technique works perfectly every time! It does take a few goes to get used it what to look for
super )))
Thanks!
Well done! nice to see that level of detail. Can I ask how many hours of work that was? and are you interested in doing another?
Thank you for your kind words!! I honestly don’t know how many hours, definitely too many to make it economically viable. But I am interested in doing it again as it was very enjoyable, and now that I know exactly what to do, I’m sure I’ll be faster!
Nice Job
Thanks!
Absolutely brilliant.
This was one of my favourites! Unfortunately, due to size constraints the my e30 engine bay, it doesn't fit without some questionable modifications. I've sold it on now, going down a different route!
That's a shame, some great work had gone into it. I assume you're keeping the throttle bodies, could get some sort of filter for those?
yes keeping the throttle bodies! Going for either velocity stacks (like the m88 procar engine) or a custom carbon intake (like the s54 e46 m3 engine)
I'd go for the stacks myself!
@@jameshay469 that’s plan A. Have a bad feeling they’re going to foul the bonnet. But that’s something to worry about in the future
very very impressive
Thanks man!
