  • The BYU Cougars are continuing to build out Kevin Young's initial roster for the BYU men's basketball program and it appears one of their final roster slots could go to Kanon Catchings or Keylan Boone as both feature a similar skillset as a potential stretch four option for the BYU basketball program and the biggest question is that of if BYU hoops' favors experience or potential.
Jake Hatch then talked about the commitment of Cal Bears tight end Marquis Montgomery, who announced he will play for Kalani Sitake and the BYU football program as a walk-on this season and what his addition offers to Fesi Sitake or Kevin Gilbride's position groups seeing as he could play either wide reciever or tight end at Brigham Young University (BYU).
Finally, the show wrapped up with some questions from the Locked On Cougars insider group, dealing with thoughts about Kanon Catchings' visit to BYU and what players need to or have the most to prove this season in football as they seek to live their dreams in the NFL as draft picks in the NFL Draft or other alternative routes in professional football.

Kalani hanging on to Tuiaki five years too long set BYU defense back ten years

Lets be honest. Kalani is a Defensive Minded Head Coach.... Tuiaki was running Sitaki's defense. The reason Sitake held on to Tuiaki so long was because Tuiaki was doing what Sitaki told him to do. I love Kalani as a person. Good guy. People have billed him the Polynesian LaVell Edwards. The problem with that billing is that Kalani like Edwards is a decent example for young men for the most part. Where this Billing falls apart? Edwards was an innovator and a visionary in how he taught football. Kalani isn't that person at all. I really thought that BYU would become the Poly Mecca of College Football with Kalani coming in. Kalani hasn't flipped that switch nor used that Cache IMO. Yes, there are a lot of Poly kids in the program. But there are some cracks in the poly shine that BYU should have. I echo Beau's comment above that losing Danny Saili was a massive loss. How does that happen? And now this week? How does BYU lose a 'Kaufusi' kid with the history that BYU has with Kaufusi's and BYU needing Dline help???? How does BYU lose a Kaufusi with a Defensive minded POLY head coach and Dline Coach? Those two incidences are telling. Not so much about Jay Hill. In fact I am very high on Jay Hill. He took the Dregs of what Kalani and Tuiaki had created and did a better job with a lot less. If Jay Hill keeps the momentum he has I think BYU's Defense will eventually be fine. That dagger in all of this is how Sitaki allowed ARod to be completely out of integrity with Slovis the last 3-4 games of last season. I've voiced my opinion on this topic for a solid 6 months now and won't repeat it. But the propaganda coming out of BYU's football program, their media and the media surrounding the program saying that 6-6 is acceptable and competitive is a load of complete HOOEY.... I'll repeat myself one more time on this specific topic. Winning 3 games in a 9 game Conference schedule isn't competitive period and anyone claiming so needs to hang up their faux cleats and pick another sport to comment on...

@@defylogictech agree with much of your take. Love Kalani, have serious questions about whether he is THAT coach who can take BYU back to a nationally reputable program. My only question is who would be better to take over? Jay Hill? Maybe it is because I'm not from UT and didn't know about him before the hire, but I'm not convinced. I haven't seen anything (yet) that would make me think he can do better? Not really any other serious candidates. Therefore, I'm stuck hoping Kalani evolves into the HC we all hoped he would be. Given that we are almost a decade into his tenure, I'm not optimistic...but I do have hope. I get tired of people calling for his job when there isn't really a better alternative. BYU shouldn't just make a move for the sake of making move. This football team can get way worse than it is now under Kalani.
Only dream scenario I can think of is if somehow BYU can convince John Beck to become HC. Lots of risk since he's never been a HC but huge upside considering his connections in NFL (almost like a football version of Kevin Young). Unlikely scenario so therefore I guess I'll keep hoping Kalani will turn the corner.

@@defylogictech Kalani is not a defensive minded coach. He simply ran Kyle's defensive scheme at the U. Take a look at Kalani's defensive coaching accomplishments after he left Utah. His Wisconsin and Oregon State stats are a joke. Without big daddy Kyle at his side he's mediocre at best defensively. He hired someone just like him and worse off more a close friend. So now you had a very bad DC who's friendship with Kalani dragged on five years too long and set the entire program back.......but hey, he knew it was all Detmer's fault after year two and couldn't wait to axe him because it was all the offenses fault......now how long will A rod hold on ? Kyle cut him pretty quick for a reason

Kalani is making the same mistake with Roderick right now. He needs to let him go and get an actual P4 level OC. Kalani's poor staff decisions have been his biggest failings, imo.

Hopefully BYU’s Dline can hold up this year. BYU gave up 417 yards per game and 29.8 points per game. Loosing Danny hurts the team bad. Hopefully the Dline can improve to allow the LB’s to make some plays.

Jake Hatch I have one question just one question ❓❓❓❓ Why don't you put A-Rods name in the equation for these players in the NFL??? A-Rods incapability to recruit, call plays and scheme around his offensive talent has killed this offense??? I hope you come up with something better than past offensive players that A-ROD takes the credit for.... " Hall, Wilson ect" Do a show that convinces me that A-ROD is this awesome coach??? Jay Hill has killed it not only on play calling but the ability to scheme around his defense talent... Its been amazing 😍😍😍 What is A-RODS vision because I don't see one in the future!!! To me he is hiding from the pressure of a offense line that was last lucster last season??? Firing Funk was deserving but what about the Tight end, receiver production not saying quarterback running back deficiencies maybe it comes to the offense line??? But A-ROD is in charge of all??? Funk has nothing to do with future quarterback recruiting??? Why no 4*s or why did we lose the 4*s??? What is wrong with Noah Luga the 3* we brought in??? Why are all of our quarterbacks transferring??? How can you get these high profile receivers and tight ends come not knowing the quarterback situation??? Please tell me why you protect A-ROD because as a BYU FAN I deserve a answer please bring this to your show and defend yourself and A-ROD maybe I'll change my prospective??? Don't shy away you love him defend him???

I wish and hope these walk ons all the best they are 100% committed to the program I love these stories!!!! I just hope that A-RODS inability to recruit, call plays or schemes around his offensive talent that will make players like these players not want to come to BYU in the future???😮😮😮 Lets see what happens but to the players counting on this, I hope you the best and I hope you succeed everything you want and deserve in the future ❤️!!!!!!

Didn't say I did, but I would like to see the talent on the floor, not just get opinion.
Before every season things look fantastic, but it doesn't always work put that way.
