@@malcolm824 You'd probably want to use less chlorine in a swimming pool then you would in a WW1 gas attack.

And the worst of it is, once you have acid on your lungs, your body goes on panic mode and causes inflammation on your lungs, essentially causing an asthma attack. This only gives the gas more water to react with.

Also pools aren’t just pure chlorine
Bleach which is a common thing they use has some other stuff in it and you also don’t breath in pool water and I understand that water vapor is a thing but that is just the water and not the acid vapor

Can't believe something you can make from household items was so deadly. Yesterday I make this gas by mixing bleach and Windex together, since it was a small amount (I made it in a glass bottle) my eyes started itching and I started coughing, but nothing serious. It did get worse over time so my ski goggles and cloth over my face protected me from it. Crazy

Of course it dose not help that I have a lazy eye, but it would have been hard to concentrate fighting a battle with a gas mask on I can easily imagine. Both sight and hearing become a problem.

The first use of Chlorine gas in the western part was on April 22, 1915, in the second Battle of Ypres, the British and French soldiers were convicted surprised and suffered this was also the primary reason why Russia is permanently separate from the alliances for not reporting the use of Chlorine Gas in the eastern part.

Chlorine Gas was initially theorized to be a more effective irritant agent than tear gas at the time, but it was the French that started chemical warfare in WW1 with their failed attempt to utilize tear gas as an offensive agent. Germany, unfortunately for the French, were working on making shell-deliverable agents for years and managed to produce a chemical agent that was able to be used in artillery shells which proved quite effective at the time...

I love how the gas mask is RIGHT on the chest, being much closer to the face in comparison with what's being used today. Being on the left leg. Although, I understand why it was moved to the leg. You are less likely to have your mask damaged if its on your leg.

Fun Fact: If you look closely at the Canadian Soldiers, 3 of them are equipped with the SMLE. During this time, Canadian soldiers were equipped with Ross Rifles which performed so badly in the muddy trenches, that many Canadian troops would drop their Ross Rifle’s for SMLEs or other guns if they found them. Orders were put out to NOT pick up other weapons, specifically the SMLE. If soldiers were found with SMLE’s, they would be punished. Looks like these soldiers didn’t care! (Also, it is reported that some troops cheered when they heard that the Ross was being taken out of service, and being replaced with the SMLE in 1916.)

The whole concept of urine-soaked handkerchiefs to protect from the gas came from the Canadian troops. They thought that a wet cloth might filter it out, and used the one liquid they readily had available, urine, to soak their cloths, then held them over their mouth and nose, while their allies fled the trenches. When the German forces came over across No Man's Land, they found, to their shock, armed Canadian soldiers ready to gun them down, instead of an empty trench.

While it is believed that Germany was the first to use chemical warfare agents, it was actually France who, in August 1914, launched bromine ethyl acetate (Fig. 1) tear gas grenades. Meanwhile, the Germans, aware of the allies’ interests in developing chemical weapons, also did the same by strongly developing their chemical industry (especially the dye industry), achieving an ideal situation for offensive chemical development. How to Ceate Mustard Gas (not chlorine gas).
    - Spray Bottle
    - Ammonia
    - Bleach
(you can buy these at your local walmart)
Open Spray Bottle, Pour Ammonia, Quickly pour in bleach, If you have a gas mask for some reason, put it on. Make sure the spray cap is tight on, Then you have homemade mustard gas.

Those who couldn't urinate, would get other soldiers to urinate on rags for them...
    Thats just....horrible.
