  • Part 12 is really Part 2 of my 1/48 Tamiya F-14A build alongside the Revell - here I button up the whole thing in quicktime compared to the ancient Revell/Tamiya kitbash..
    Next part is paint!
    Background to this build:
At the start of March I took the silly step of building a large scale F-14 in 31 days as part of a Group Build by Justin Lentz here:
    / 331097009023901
The ancient Revell/Monogram F-14A is one of three large scale Tomcats available and came to me recently so I thought why not!
I would've finished it but had an emergency operation in mid-March, and I'm still in recovery mode, so this build will stretch out a little longer....

Poor iceman! On top of throat cancer and losing his voice you have cut off his legs! This movie franchise has not ended well for Val.

They all seem to lose their legs when I put them in my aircraft!

Even Tamiya can't do wheels up! I have just finished Meng's Super Hornet "in flight" and doors need to be modified to fit closed. Looking forward to seeing this at QMHE.......one month to go!

Maybe I missed it but where was the 1/32nd tomcat... 😉😂😢... Also have you built the 1/32nd Trumpeter F14d?.... I am just about to start on it and was wondering if there are any fitment issues to look out for in the building process...

Gday Nigel sorry for delay on replying - the 1/32 is still there, I've made the base and about to start painting...
I havent built the Trumpeter F-14D, but I have it - check out Jim's Models he's doing one right now with Zacto intakes. I believe closing the canopy is a bit of a pain with that kit....

have you got a tutorial on how to make a 1/32 warbird/ P40, P51 or spitfire in flight as in getting rid of the landing gear and how to place the clear rod? Cheers love ya work

I'm just going to build a couple of aircraft, and decided on wheels up - have you found a good display stand you always use? I've looked online but have not found an obvious choice. I'm doing 1/48 scale. Any advice is appreciated. Just looking for a good cheap one (or a few).

Try one of the Academy or Hasegawa flight stands (they come in most of their new tool 1/72 kits)

Hey Chris! I noticed that you poke holes on the fuselage to display your kits in flight - is there a reason you don’t position the rods on the engine nozzles instead? I saw one guy doing that on a 1/48 jet, and was wondering if it would have been easier…

    • @beckersmodels
      @beckersmodels  Рік тому

I do that too, but like to make it different and try to "hide" the rod under the wing or fuselage. I usually do a single rod for single jet engine aircraft, like my Airfix Sabre I recently did (plus the Su-17 and Huckbein I'm building right now)

G'day Chris, Cripes! I looked at your thumbnail for this video and thought you'd borrowed a tiny anti-gravity generator from Bob Lazar! Your model seemed to be really 'hovering' over the mounting block! I haven't caught your Tomcat build yet, if there are vids for that.
I have specialised in WW2/Korea aircraft so the 'anatomy' of modern jets is a bit of a mystery to me. I know how the old planes were built in the factories but these US fast jets have me wondering how the heck they go together. I'll really need the instructions when I do one.
The main reason I've stayed away from these aircraft is just an aesthetic thing. Most modern air force 'kites' are various shades of grey. They leave me a bit cold.
I love the wonderful WW2 nose art and the streaks of bold primary colours which, for most aircraft made their attempts at camouflage pointless.
The 'Ruskies' must have always been out of coloured paint, apart from red for the big stars. No individualism allowed in that regime; Нет!
You'll have me riveted to the screen when you get around to showing off your inventive ways of posing your models in-flight. Can't wait for those tutorials.
Excellent work, Chris. I fell on the floor at your "anklectomy", reminded me of 'a less than capable' surgeon I used to work with many moons ago!
    Cheers, Bill
P.S. I've just caught a glimpse of your 1/32 Tomcat build. You've weathered that model so well it doesn't look like the boring 'all-flat grey' that puts me off. I must try one of those soon, and as a vote of thanks to you, I'll have a go at doing it in flight! 😉 BH

Gday Bill - yes I agree about the modern stuff - it needs more colour, one of the reasons why I've not done the F-35 until recently.
I didnt film that little 1/72 Academy build - I hope to do the 1/72 GWH on camera one day, its a beaut of a kit....
And yes go for inflight- its not that hard - and I hope to make it easier soon, will be developing some out of the box solutions when I get back from my holiday later this year...cheers Chris

@@beckersmodels G'day Chris, Thanks for that. As I do mostly 'old fashioned' military aircraft; I'm not even comfy with 'fuselage halves' of the newest fast jet models.
The most modern 'kite' we had in the RAAF, in my day, was the F-111; like that still had a fuselage with wings sticking out ;)
I was shocked when I opened my first ultra- modern aircraft kit. There were these two, large flat pieces of plastic. Apart from the cockpit nothing else in the kit looked like it came from an aircraft. Geeze, am I out of date or what!
While I got you, before your hols, I came across some clear acrylic rods. Do you have a quick tip on how to bend these for 'flight mounting' without destroying the look of the rod?
I've no idea what you do for a crust but Harry did say you've got a 'high-pressure' job, so have a great break! Cheers, Bill
