See you next time!
I love shooting film because I can really appreciate the art and REALLY appreciate the process. From manually controlling the shutter, aperture, iso. Loading and unloading the film cartridge, and developing it.
It’s a breath of fresh air when shooting with film as opposed to digital.
Generally shooting film makes me appreciate the art of photography WAY MORE
Developing it is my favorite part!
agreed!!!
Yes another digital photographer has seen the light and joined us film photographers.
What I’ve learned through photography: nothing can be ruined
I'm guessing you've never loaded a stainless steel tank before then.
who else loved this vid way more than his others because of him doing film??
Just another guy trying to grab the fame of the film community... If you'd asked him half a year back he would have said that it's boring and not as good as digital, but now that it's hyped by all those hipsters he suddenly also loves film? Oh come on really?
@@rhett1734 haha come on man. don't be that guy. Anything to keep film alive is good, right?
@@ZainRiza agreed haha, I just think there is a lot of pretending going on, especially here on UA-cam and I'm always confused how/why all these people fall for it? It's literally just to gain followers haha...
Gotta love film tho
Love the feel of these images dude! Shoot more film ;)
I developed my first two rolls of film two weeks ago. It’s just totally different and I really dig that. I feel like it’s a different process and I’m much closer to the photos because it’s my work every step of the way. Really exciting and I’m going to shoot much more film now. And I’m glad to see that my favourite photographers in UA-cam are doing it as well!
^^
I doubt Brandon will see this but the reason he got those "light leaks" from that roll is because he was shooting a roll of film called CineStill. The green and red style you see with the red kind of haze around the frame is what CineStill is known for and why people buy it and shoot it :)
i started shooting film almost 2 years ago now and even though i only use a point-and-shoot i found at a thrift store (because cameras are damn expensive), i've begun to love the process more than digital. it gets me to slow done in my photography and focus on quality over quantity. it's also very therapeutic as you get used to taking imperfect photos and accepting things as they are. i'm excited you've started to try it !! welcome to the club :)
I swear I've learned so much from this guy!!!! I love this channel!!!
That’s my favorite thing to hear🙏🏼
Brandon, you have replied so many times to me on instagram. It makes me so happy. You’re so humble and appreciative. Always stay like this! 💛
I bought a NIKON EM a while back but I never had full interest in film but after watching the results from your experience I’m definitely going to practice more with film and just have some fun! 🤠
love it! really great timing too, as i'm starting to look further into film photography
I am very happy that many photographers are looking at digital photography with different eyes and paying special attention to it at a time when digital has completely dominated the market.
the analog aesthetic is very unique and charming! good video, I'm excited to see you grow in this new phase of your photography.
This video is really new for me because I NEVER had the chance to use film. And either way, you still are really great at taking photos! It doesn't matter if you rely on editing your photos after taking them, like, who cares?! It's you, and what you do will always be beautiful and great!! 😍 I look forward to more more more more videos from you ❤
Saw the title and almost didn’t click... after watching I feel I have a new appreciation for film... glad I clicked... look forward to a new video... 👋
tbh i shoot both daily, but recently i've shifted towards entirely film shooting. shooting film changes the way you shoot, tbh. it makes each individual photo you make, mean more.
Hey, what a great video. Keep up the amazing work! I look forward to your next video.
I loved those dreamy, crushed shadows and vintage looking photos, thanks to this video i m going out to shoot something myself! I prefer shooting on digital bcz hey who dsnt like taking more shots and then choosing the best among them!
Those look great!! I also came from a digital background and I’ve completely changed over to film. It’s cool that some of these lenses and cameras can still shoot today and are readily available at a fraction of what digital costs nowadays. And imo, post better photos after development. Congrats on all that gear and can’t wait to see more!
LOVE this idea. Spectacular shots, honestly. Great job!
Woaaaaaaw the look and feel to these are just soooooooo magical and dreamy! It's amazing well done Brandon, forever the best!
now i need a brandon and willem verbeeck video
These are not *"not looking too bad"* , these are the real photographs. Looking great!
The photos looks so sickk!!!
I love your photos!
Welcome to film Brandon! I'm on the same journey as you! Good luck with it :)! I'm excited to see what you can do with film!
Your photos are amazing!!!
You are awesome at whatever you do . You are an icon .
came out so cool! luv ur work!
lily k So gald you enjoyed! Yay✨✨✨
Yayyy Brandon posted!!!
Thank you for continuing to inspire some of us! 🙏🌙
Awesome video! I got really excited because I have a Nikon EM too! My great uncle gave his camera to me when he found out I liked photography and was hoping to get into film. It had been collecting dust for a while and he’d been waiting to give it to someone who would really want it. I’m still learning my way around it, but I love it. 😊
I love you Brandon! I'm so excited when I see your notifications ❤
hi i love you brandon. you keep me sane even if my photography teacher gets on my nerves 😌
Ohhh..
What is that?
Videography?....wow
Excited when i saw the notification...
Love it🤩
Love your photography! Wish to be a great photographer like you!💓
nice dude! keep shooting film, it's fun!
Your video quality has really increased over the time! And of course these film photos look sooo timeless, n they have this texture to them that I just love, amazing job man!!!
Tadas Pintveris Thank you so much!!🤙✨
I have a film camera I haven't used in months so this really inspired me 😊
These photos are just gorgeous! Absolutely outstanding. you should do it more often my friend :)
I'd love to see more! I shoot digital but I I took a class on b&w film photography over the past few months and I loved it. I liked how raw it was in loading the film, developing it and printing it, all from my hand. It certainly has the feel of "I made this, through and through, with no digital third party " something like that. I'd love to try color film soon
Brandon,
I don't do photography as a professional. But you have hit on a basic principle that I have attempted to invoke in our photography club. That is to be intentional when you shoot. This will cause you to slow down and have more focus on what you are shooting. B/W shooting to include development is what I cut my teeth on while stationed in Germany (1976-1980). Film is a tool that will help in your photography discipline. Transfer that process to your digital shooting you will surely see a difference in your images that you capture. You did a great job stepping out of your comfort zone and I hope you will keep up the good work.
Your necklace lock 🔒🎞📸
Love you, Brandon! 🤍
You inspired me to start photography and right now i am into plants and nature. Great photos btw.
You're amazingggggg❤️
Been shooting film myself for about a year having not picked up any sort of camera in YEARS and its been such a good creative outlet it's made me so much excited and happier! When it comes to developing at home I say just go for it! mess it up and enjoy the learning process. Once you get comfortable it's becomes as enjoyable as taking the pictures :D
You're on UA-cam!!!!! Gold!
They're gorgeous! :0 Really love! ^_^
I started in film with a Canon EX from 1975 in the 90s. I have a love for both film and digital for totally different reasons. I feel you on the gear aspect. It’s not what you have, it’s how you are using it. I think it's all about training your eyes and being a visual fortune teller, seeing the shot before it's taken.
My dream its meet Brandon and tell to him how much i learn with his shoots, its my main influence, im from argentina!
I’ve been shooting 90% percent of my Portrait work on film for the last 3 years. If you’re interested my whole channel is about shoot on film.
Your camera just needs the light seals replaces to stop those light leaks. Also, Portra 800 looks a lot better if you meter it at 400 or 200 iso and then develop it at 800. Because it’s an older formula than new Portra (160 & 400) it eats a lot of light.
Like you (my idol), I've been shooting digital for quite sometime and you've been an inspiration with my portrait shoots. Recently I bought my first film camera which is a Canonet QL17 and started to shoot film. It's so nostalgic and the output are so classic. Now, I bought a new vintage camera, a Canon AE-1 and I am way too excited to use it for my 3rd roll of film 😁 Thanks for inspiring us Brandon! Godbless you more!
It's very interesting to see professional photographer trying to be creative with film.
I've been shooting with film for about a year now. Mostly I take snap photo at day time, cause I kind of afraid to shoot film at night. But seeing your neon photos is pretty inspiring. I think I might try it next time.
It’s so funny that we got exactly the same start with photography, I also started with some classes that I had to take while studying 3D animation, that’s when I got my first camera
There’s just something about film that hits different, I just love it 😊
LifeofFallon exactly!👏👏👏
Hi! Im argentinian and I'm learning english with your videos! Very good work 👏🙌
I've been shooting with an old trusty D3 but recently bought a Nikon FE, I've been shooting the first roll and cannot wait to see how it turns out.
I love your work 🔥
Mark Lenry Berdin Thanks for the love!✨
love both film and digital and your pics looks amazing different feel on them so you can just to digital and film all the time but without compare them like all the youtubers and just lett it be,so thanks again plus your class on skillshare helped me a lot thanks again
I am early to my favorite photographer's first film experience. Thank you Brandon for sharing especially since I grew up in a dark room developing film. ❤
Amazing video!... yet again! You should try medium format it's 12 shots a roll and really makes you think about each picture even more so! Love you work!
i might have to test out with film after this video. thanks for the idea.
Jamie Chen Go for it! No harm in trying it out
OH jesus your film photos are looking like shot on a leica 😍brandon u are just a talent! I love your pictures!!! u are my biggest inspiration!
Sebastian Mark ah thanks for the love! Appreciate it
You are such an icon!!!!
Brandon I am becoming fan of your as I see more of you video and photos so just want to tell you are a great inspiration for me
Love form Indian 🇮🇳
it's so crazy out in new york that brandon has his necklace locked

Congrats! Second roll looked really good. Shooting film, especially if you learned on digital, is an awesome and humbling experience. I think EVERY photographer should own a film camera and use it, even if its just an instant film camera. Shooting film really forces you to think about each shot and take photographs, rather than taking hundreds of digital snapshots. It also forces you to learn the basics because you cant just fix it in post as so many lazy digital "photographers" tend to do. experiment more with that Nikon and then when you are ready for some real fun, look at some medium format film cameras. There is nothing quite like looking thru a waist level viewfinder of something like a Hasselblad 500 C/M, its truly a unique experience that makes you feel closer to your photos. The Mamiya RB67 and the Pentax 67 II are also fantastic medium format film cameras. Enjoy.
So inspirational 😊
Emma Atkinson 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I could see you getting into the different Lomography films. The colors and saturation would really fit your style.
These are good 😍😍
Mariame Lagrosa Thank you❤️
That 3rd roll... 👌🏽
It's been years since I last shot with film but I miss it so much. The thing I miss the most is the surprise of the shot you capture. This video definitely is making me want to bring out my SLR. Time to buy some rolls of film. 💗
lunatunakitty Totally! It’s almost like you forget exactly what you shot until you get the images developed✨ excited to get more into it
@@BrandonWoelfel you should get your hands on a Holga and shoot some 120 film. That would be fun. Plus you could play with some double exposures.
Ur such a good photographer Brandon
Funny as a kid I shot on film and It was fun and no big deal its all there was for a little kid in the 1980s, digital cameras didnt come out until I was in High School . Good for you for stepping out of your comfort zone.
ouuu he’s a film photographer now
Sylvie Lam 👀👀👀
Perfect topic for me.
I just bought a Polaroid camera yestday. I cannot wait for the weekend to try it.
Dominic Wolfstädter That’s awesome🔥 have fun
@@BrandonWoelfel thank you. Going to do some of my neon portraits. Cannot wait to see how it looks on the Polaroid :)
On the second roll photos i was thinking: OMG! Those are amazing! Wish i could do that. Then you say "these photos are not looking to bad" hahaha actually showed me what a bad photographer i am (or what a great one you are)
Wow! I thought those were edited 😍🖤
The photos are amazing #Brandon and when I saw your video pop up I'm like fainlly he posted a video geez but film is the one I perfer having.
I LOVE YOUUUU 🌆❤️
Aesthetic Lover Love you!!!
Continue with film man...you will notice a drastic better composition once you come back to digital 👍🤗
🔥📸 big fan love this #filmisnotdead
literally had the exact same experience with my first roll... took me a long time to learn how to focus on my film camera
I think I am second this time yayy!!
I love you so much!!!
photo video love you! Thanks for the support❤️
I took film photo classes in high school and college, developing your own film and making your own prints are the best. Makes you really appreciate photoshop, I think you would enjoy physically dodging and burning your images. Not to mention all the other techniques there are for film prints. I also think you would take some amazing double exposed images, give that a shot next time you pick up that film camera! But yea, I highly recommend jumping in a real darkroom and testing out techniques that became staples for digital post production nowadays
CommanderZander Okay you just got me super excited! Seriously thank you so much for the suggestion🙌✨ it’s like entering a whole new world haha
I love the editing part about digital, I feel like I miss adding my own style with film. I do still shot film for fun!
The only bad thing about the Nikon EM is that shoots in aperture priority, anf for some night photografy you'll need more control, after that is a good camera.
I love digital but what I'm going to take from this as a challenge is to one day take only 36 photos and keep each one as it is with no post processing. I think that will really push improvements in my photography. Thanks for another great video!
Loren's London Totally! It felt a little strange not editing these photos but I don’t think they need any:)
I feel like the first roll wasn't that bad at all! The color mismatch might be due to the film being pushed a bit too much in the shadows. A little White Balance tweaking and the green teal would be fixed almost entirely. Nice job, Brandon!
You need to try medium format film photography! It's great for portraits and forces a slower process making you think about your composition and lighting more. That's just one of the reasons why I prefer shooting on film
Nice Brandon, the 2nd roll of film came out amazing!!! I just started out photography so digital is more ideal for me ;) I'm still learning, I would love see a tutorial of how you process / edit your images!!! If you keen to share, by the way love your work!!!....
Hey u should shoot more film ur rly good at it
linusandhiscamera film king🥺✨ thank you friend
Wow B just wow.
Un saludo desde chile, increíble video.
'Never let your gear define your work...' yeah that's true... And you just need to have that passion in yourself.... To prove that point i shoot portraits and other pictures with mobile phone and edit them... And sometimes friends can't tell what it has been clicked with.... Btw i am a VFX student too but loving the photography thing....❤️❤️
I am using the canon 60d with 18mm-135mm lens and the Canon AE1 with 28mm 2.8 lens, 50mm 1.8 and 70mm-200mm lens
Awesome
Thanks man for the video! I have a question, which filter would you recommend I use on my lens? There are so many!
hi hello brandon im a huge fan of your about neon photography 😍 can you give me some tips whats the basic settings if you shoots night or neon lights. . ☺️
it looks like your camera has a
light input, that's why there's red in your frames. I have that issue on one of my gears and i love the results! keep shooting on film! ♥
Midnight Poison Oh thanks for that!
Nikon EM is kind of famous because of light leaks, you can fix that by adding tape on the back cover
