Thanks for your clear and concise explanations. I was looking for a video that showed where exactly to locate and insulate the top plates in my attic. I appreciate the time you took to make this. Thanks!

Thanks. It’s certainly satisfying to hear that my efforts achieve the desired effect. Best of luck tightening up your house.

cold air is not traveling down the holes or gaps in your attic to the living space. the hot air from the living space is traveling up into the attic and then cold air is drawn in to the house through the basement or crawlspace

Most of the time the pressure and temperature differences are such that, as you said, air moves from low to high in your home. That’s true. What’s also true is that wind will push into your house from any hole, in any direction, including from your attic, if it’s windy enough and enough pressure builds up.

Whichever hack did the insulation job in my attic for the previous homeowners left many huge gaps from the living space. They only laid over or stuffed faced wool insulation into those areas. Condensation, heat loss....curse them

Yeah. Sorry for you. There’s a lot of unskilled workers out there claiming otherwise. It’s worth your while to fix your attic.

moisture will travel thro the insulation on the light cover, insulation isnt a vapor barrior

Most insulation is absolutely not a moisture barrier nor, for that matter, is it an air barrier. Air will move from hot to cold and the moisture in that air will follow. Not sure what point you’re trying to make as it relates to what I was saying in the video. Do you have a better way of air sealing can lights?

@@Enerchek_lowers_utility_bills in the video you said moisture wont travel thro the insulation on top of the box... but it will..
