    Also, to people who might be put off by the Blackguard due to his hunger:
    The moment you make a cooking pot, bowls and crocks, is the moment you're pretty much good to go, due to the 'meals prevent satiation droppage when consumed' game mechanic.
    It just does what that name suggests. For every 100 saturation you replenish using a meal, your satiation will not decrease.
    You have 2000 satiation, if you starve your character (which is something you should do, if you want to be more optimal) and have a high saturation meal at the ready, you can suspend hunger for up to 20minutes, realtime minutes.
    Which can, depending on settings, make you hunger free for heaps of ingame hours. Even in full plate armor and an offhand item.
    So, yeah. I consider the blackguard the most powerful and efficient class in the game, at least when it comes to melee combat, which tends to be a thing all characters have to do at some point, more commonly toward endgame stuff.
    The fact that he hits so hard in melee also means that his weapon will degrade slower, or rather, they degrade like everyone elses melee weapon, but you can slay enemies faster, which means they take less hits, so you can ultimately fell more with the same weapon than others. It's not a huge difference, but a notable one.

    This is one part of the game that I think could do with some more polish and changes, as I don't think the classes are very well balanced and sometimes even contain contradictory benefits and downsides that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. For example:
    The Malefactor can create a unique ranged weapon that only they can use called the Sling which can throw rocks; however, they have a -25% range distance penalty meaning the rocks won't travel as far as they could if this penalty was something else more fitting for the class, something like a penalty to harvest speed because cutting up bodies reminds them of their past as a criminal? This is a relatively minor nitpick though in comparison to my thoughts on the Clockmaker and Tailor.
    The Clockmaker feels very unfinished in regard to what they are capable of doing in the context that they have experience working with Temporal Gears and have an understanding of Locust mechanics. They are called a Clockmaker, yet they can't make clocks or work with gears in general beyond specifically Translocators, which is an incredible minor benefit in the grand scheme of things. The +25% damage boost they get against Mechanical targets is in contrast to their general -15% melee damage penalty, meaning they barely do more damage in comparison to a Commoner to specifically mechanical enemies, and are much worse against everything else. And they have a health penalty on top of that? There are many avenues for making this class have more interesting Lore related benefits and downsides, such as having higher/lower maximum/recovery of Temporal Stability, discounts for the new technology crafting recipes/having more unique recipes related to technology, suffering from more severe side effects from Temporal Storms and having low Stability, etc.
    The Tailor can create a lot of mostly aesthetic clothing with minor tangible benefit and can repair clothes more efficiently with their Sewing Kits, but their main draw is that they can make a slightly more expensive than normal Tailored Gambeson which has better stats and less penalties compared to a regular Gambeson. However, they have a -2 maximum health penalty meaning the extra protection they get from the Tailored Gambeson isn't as wonderful as it could be compared to a Commoner wearing a regular Gambeson which any class can make. The only saving grace is that other classes can wear the Tailored Gambeson in Multiplayer, but when everyone eventually has a Tailored Gambeson, Tailor is effectively a nerfed Commoner from that point forward. They mine slower, they hunt slower, they get less stuff from hunting and foraging, and they are less effective in combat in general due to having less health. If you want to be supportive in Multiplayer and give people unique items only you can make, you'd be better of playing a Blackguard.

      honestly, I feel Class specific recipes should be disabled by default. this would mitigate most of these problems. but yes the Classes in generally are kind of disappointing and the traits make little sense.

    My friend and i chose Malefactor and hunter, respectively. I figured we would need a lot of food starting out, and their ability to make a sling would be useful to me as its a ranged weapon.
    A good early game team

      kashcah and I love this team. Sadly, your ranged bonuses don't apply to any stone flinging or tossing. Still, you bring home the bacon and they bring home the loot!

    I think they have to rethink this system, I would rather have a system were you have some points to start with and you allocate to your character stats, with extra points given for doing things that you can spend as you progress, you could also find books in loot that would give you extra points.
    That way it feels more of an accomplishment when you level up, something like the mod overhaul for 7DTD " Undead Legacy ".
    You could earn points farming, looting, hunting, mining, and even exploring.
    Anyhow I'm so happy this game keeps getting better and better, not to mention the incredible amount of mods you can add.

      Mhmm yeah this does actually makes sense. You won't be stuck on a specialization and instead be your own kind of class that's defined on your own playstyle. I remember all too well starting off as a warrior only to end up as a stealth archer in skyrim all the damn time.

      well that's not realistic is it? i mean this game aims to be as realistic as possible, while still being fun to play

    • @MischiefofMice
      @MischiefofMice  Рік тому +5

      Instead of personal stat points to be better at things it's more achievements of unlocking your progress. It becomes easier to eat, fight, farm, and so on with the more progress you make. The professions just give a bit of a specialist touch best for multiplayer. There are stat points mmo like progression mods though if you want to go that way

    • @Yorkington
      @Yorkington Рік тому +6

      @@spekulatiu It is more realistic tbh. As the character and player both learn skills together rather than an inflexible class system.

      I can see a Projekt Zomboid kind of class system where you can buy positive traits and minor bonuses by taking negative traits.

    An important thing to consider, regarding the Malefactor, is that the Furtive trait can very easily also act as a detriment.
    Why? Because the reduced aggro range it gives you, which includes predator aggro range, wolves and bears, also means your initial engagement range is much closer to the predator.
    Which of course means that the beast will be right on top of you. Which can end your character if you're in a bad spot environment wise.
    This is especially important to consider for 'one life only' hardcore runs.
    Also, sneaking, the thing every character can do, including the Malefactor, does not reduce aggro range at all. So, while the Malefactor DOES make an excellent scout and early game scavenger, you actually do have to be just as considerate about the environment as other classes. The predators will still be a threat, and with your lower health, you better be wearing improvised armor ASAP to not get sent into the afterlife after one hit, especially on higher monster damage settings.
    That's all. It's a fun class, but don't get honeylipped by the Furtive trait thinking you'll be an oblivion stealth archer.

    I think the class system as it stands now is just unusable. I always go Commoner + Non-class restricted crafting. I mean, maybe you can use it on a roleplay server with mods, but the downsides just hit to hard. Even if you remove all the downsides, the classes don't really do anything besides the blackguard.

    I came back to watch this video to get a little more info. I thought of a question while watching. Can you play different characters all in the same world? So, for example, you can have the benefits of different classes in your party but it is still a single player experience. You just play each character one at a time.

  • @PhilBoswell
    @PhilBoswell 9 місяців тому +1

    Are you restricted to one character at any given time? (In some games you can create more than one character but only one can be logged in, so you could craft something with one character for another to use when they log in later.)

      There are commands that let you reset your character class. Check the wiki but I think it's ".charsel" without quotes for a single player game and on a server an admin would need to type "/player yourname allowcharselonce" without quotes.

    I like the hints of backstory and the mild horror elements to the game, but the core game mechanics seem to be right out of TerrafirmaCraft with some minor changes. I don't see the point of buying a new game when I can play essentially the same game in Minecraft. I am not saying it isn't an interesting game, I just don't see enough difference to play this one over TFC.

    • @Jerome226
      @Jerome226 Рік тому +24

      It has very different gameplay from TFC, like mechanical power, and progression is very different.
      While TFC shares some concept like metal working, its not very comparable to say its the same.

    • @Dark__Thoughts
      @Dark__Thoughts Рік тому +4

      @@Jerome226 That was part of TerraFirmaPunk too though.
      Either way, I still think it is worth the purchase & monetary support in general. Yes, it's very similar in a lot of ways but I don't think that's bad. In fact I think that is a good thing. It's basically TFC gone standalone game instead of being an abandoned mod for an old MC version. It has a lot of attention for detail, both visually and in regards to its mechanics, while also getting frequently updated. It also has its own selection of mods, specifically made for it, to further customize the game. And it doesn't have the same annoying minigames of TFC. Like the smithing in VS imo is way more fun and forgiving, while also feeling much more like smithing than the tedious smithing puzzle in TFC.
