I became unemployed due to the lockdown and started learning piano and music theory through different channels and ended up here on your channel. Great to be inspired by your work as a starting pianist.

@fjf sjdnx is that book 20th century harmony as on 20th century music that sounds like you dropped a cat on an organ or is the book actually good at getting a reasonably pleseant sound?

Great video. One more for your list, if I may:
When you don't know where to start, start anywhere.
This will lead you naturally to where you should have started in the first place, and time doesn't get away from you before you've even started.

That's what I used to do with rock songs. If write an eight, 12 or 16 bar thing and see how it worked with another one with no home to see if they worked as verses and choruses together.

Focusing more on details than the big picture has always been a really bad habit of mine, whether it's composing music or just going about daily life. It's nice to see it being pointed out, and shown why it is essential to use full patches to sketch your music instead of individual sections.

The takeaway I got from the first few minutes is simply not to worry too much about perfection at the start of a project. It's much easier to work with something to make it better than to come up with something amazing out of thin air. So your advice to resist the temptation to focus on details too soon resonates. Noticing that you have a composer's workstation, may I ask whether you ever sketch/draft anything on paper first? I can't decide whether the old-skool way is better for the sheer discipline of it or whether embracing the tech right from the beginning of a project just makes sense in terms of getting more stuff done. Anyway, thank you for sharing this informative and entertaining video.
