- Five years after winning the Palme d’Or for SHOPLIFTERS, Academy Award nominated filmmaker Kore-eda Hirokazu returns with BROKER, starring Cannes Best Actor winner Song Kang Ho (PARASITE). The film follows two brokers who sell orphaned infants, circumventing the bureaucracy of legal adoption, to affluent couples who can’t have children of their own. After an infant’s mother surprises the duo by returning to ensure her child finds a good home, the three embark on a journey to find the right couple, building an unlikely family of their own.
Song Kang Ho is such an incredible actor, love everything he does!

Couldn't understand what you wrote until I checked several articles about the film and found out that IU is actually a person. If anyone else is confused, IU is a stage name of Lee Ji-eun, a singer acting in this film.
She is gorgeous. I'm unfamiliar with her, but this film looks so good.
@@0xyGen_2.p0 "exotic" stage names aren't exclusive to the korean music industry and its pretty tame imo, i think it means something like you & i. she's also been acting for several years under her real name, tho in dramas rather than movies. i haven't seen anything she's in, but she's got 2 baeksang best actress noms which are quite prestigious, so she must be solid. not really comparable to harry styles lol. tho plenty of singers have become good actors, this is hardly a new thing.

When the boy from the orphanage, Hae-jin, joins their adventure, the family unit really cements. That little kid is the heart of the story. He's the one that insists they take a family picture (in the background you can see him cutting each copy with scissors to give to the adults), he's the one that claims the baby as his brother, he's the one who tells the mother thank you for being born... but the poor kid is in the background and told repeatedly he won't be adopted, but it doesn't stop him from trying to reunite. He made the movie for me.

Just watching this clip made me emotional. Koreans....their stars are shining right now. I've been watching Korean dramas for 12+ years at this point. I'm a fan of what they do. Great storytellers. Today I probably know more Korean actors VS American actors...that's how much I love them.

@@fukunaga-kane Sorry. I don't know any Japanese dramas or movies. Haven't managed to watch any. I have managed to watch some Chinese dramas and movies but my preference tends to be Korean movies/dramas. It's what I started with and it seems to be what I'm most comfortable with. Also, it matters little about being an adaptation. If the production is enjoyable then bravo! How many stories in 2023 are truly original?
Now...I will say this....my favorite actor, singer, dancer and all around entertainer is Lee Junho of 2pm and 90% of his albums and solo concerts are geared towards the Japanese Hottests. I'm so used to listening to his songs in the Japanese language that when I listen to them in Korean ...it seems strange. I don't know why their company JYP pushed them to perform in Japan VS Korea but that's unimportant at this point. What I do know is that I follow Junho and know all his music in the Japanese language and I'm thankful to his Japanese fans because he has a large body of work and once they allowed the release of his music on YT we international fans learned to appreciate his music as well.
I got to see the tiff premier of this fantastic film and Song Kang Ho and Kore Eda were present for speeches and question time.
Kore Eda was asked if he planned on making more films abroad and he said something along the lines of, ‘I went out of my way to make a movie with a foreign cast in a foreign country just to work with Song Kang ho.’ Of all the ‘slimy guy with a heart’ roles Song Kang ho has had this ones the most Song Kang ho.
If you’re considering seeing this trust me when I say it’s an absolutely marvel, perhaps moreso then Shoplifters, and brought the majority of the theatre to tears.
The concept is really good, and the vibes from the trailer itself is a lot soothing and peaceful than you would expect. Would love to see the film.

Also Kore-eda working with Korean cast and crew it's just very telling, how limiting Japan's movie industry really is in term of topic. He has a very pan-Asian view of promoting young filmmakers, he himself was inspired by Taiwan's Hou Hsiao-Hsian to become a film maker. I really look forward to this film.

Seen every Koreeda film except this one. Only two didn't do it for me -- Hana and Air Doll.
Fully agree about Air Doll, and thats coming from someone who loves Bae Doona. As much care as Koreeda puts in to his films he does seem to have a prolific care-free approach which definitely leads to some average films but most are still perfection.

This trailer spoils the two best parts of the movie...
Koreeda is an excellent director but as a native Korean this film felt less authentic than the Japanese ones. The dialogue sounded more like the transcribe of the foreign text rather than from native tongue. Korean locations were depicted as if they were from a tourist photo album. A mediocre disappointment from such high potential.

That's our girl, all right. You know, I wonder now if being in "Broker" and being around the baby kickstarted IU's now-announced serious relationship. You know IU wouldn't have announced it if "serious" didn't mean marriage and children, since she's also 30 and pushing the envelope for having one or more children like her mother did. She'd still want to be in her 50's when they were grown so she could be involved in their careers if they went into entertainment, again like her mother is involved in hers, so I wonder if this started the planets aligning for Wedding Team IU?
