황금 법당이 있는 국내 유일의 사찰 서울 은평구 수국사 둘러보기 Suguksa Temple of golden sanctuary

서울시 은평구 구산동 삼각산 자락에 있는 수국사는 조선 전기 세조의 명으로 최초로 창건된 사찰입니다. 1459년 세조는 어린 나이로 죽은 세자 덕종의 영혼을 위로하기 위해 왕 명의로 창건하여 정인사라고 하였고, 이후 1471년 인수대비의 명에 의해 중창되었으나, 훗날 화재로 소실되어 절의 폐사 상태에 이르른 것을 1900년 초 월초거연이 고종의 도움을 받아 다시 중창하였고, 1995년 주지 한자용이 법당 안팎을 금으로 개금한 황금보전을 신축하여 국내 유일의 황금 법당이 있는 사찰이 되었습니다. 건물 자체가 금으로 지어진 것은 아니고 얇은 금박을 나무에 붙인 것이라고 하네요. 내부와 외부 모두 순도 99.9% 금이 약 33kg 소요되었다고 하는데 단청으로 했을 때 보다 비용을 상당히 줄일 수 있는 실용성이 있다고 합니다.
Suguksa Temple is located in the western area of downtown Seoul and was built in 1459 for the first time by the order of King Sejong, Joseon Dynasty. And a golden sanctuary was built in 1995 by the chief priest of this temple.

은평구 수국사는 일본의 금각사와 닮은 점이 있는, 나름 특징이 있는 사찰인데, 금각사처럼 주변에 멋진 풍경이 없고, 연립주택 등 민가가 너무 가까이 붙어 있어서 참 아쉽습니다.
