What to do in case of an accident | Episode 18 | The PowerDrift Podcast

- Accidents happen and they suck. But our contribution comes right after the event as bystanders, co-riders or good samaritans. So how to deal with them? It all starts with understanding what has happened and deciding what to do next. What you decide can, sometimes, mean life or death. Or in the worst case, a prolonged injury. On today's PowerDrift Podcast, Shumi explains what to do in case of an accident, and after, so that you can probably avoid it from happening again. This is not a first-aid course, and we highly recommend you enrol yourself in one if you're a serious motorcyclist.

Really useful, short, crisp and meaningful. Had a lot to learn from it. Great work Powerdrift, great work Shumi 🙌
Legal procedures after an accident
Yes please, legal aspects info needed
Legal and Insurance parts in an accident. I’m clueless about how insurance works in accidents.
Make a podcast on preparation and things to check for and Mandatory gadgets required before a long road trip. I know there are a lot more videos in this topics but it'll be great to hear it out from shumi or anyone else from PD. Great job guys.
Yes PD please make a video on Legal issues, Insurance claming and other such Legal stuff in case of road accident.❤
We will definitely try!
Yes very much needed
Yes please
yes please do this
Dealing with accidents is a very broad topic. It may need more podcasts and can be categorized into following items.
1. First aid(most of it is covered)
2. How to Deal with Police
3. How to Deal with Hospitals
4. How to Deal with Insurance
5. How to Deal with the road rage that begins with the accident(people gathering and abusing / beating up)
6. Running away / Stay there from an accident (caused by you or others)
7. Finally Retrospective & Road ahead (some of it is covered here again)
This is a very important video for me as I am recovering from a minor accident happened on 1st may. It raised my confidence to get back on my motorcycle after all the depressing thoughts I had after my first crash in last 10 years.
All the best! Get back on it!
Suyash is my friend and from him I got this video.
I had an accident(slid over due to dog) in oct 2019
From then I didn't have enough confidence to ride.
This video is very helpful to override lack of confidence
@@shahabajkhanpathan5074 Best of luck! Get back on it!
Shumi and team a video on the below
1. radial, axial and moboblock calliper.
2. Ceramic and sintered brake pads.
3. Rubber and steel braided brake lines, also the preferred aftermarket brands.
Cool suggestions!
@@powerdriftofficial How one should upgrade the brakes should definitely be one of your pod casts
How to deal with police after a crash. We want podcast on this topic.
We shall try about that! :)
IMO, get a cam, higher chance of you not getting screwed by either by the driver or the police. In India we have this superiority complex on road directly proportional to your vehicles size, so people on two wheels are seen the problem by both four wheelers and the police at times (the police bit is purely on luck)
@@adisura9904 Have one! DDPAI Mola N3. But still they'll make trouble.
@@vedant.patil8 haha well i did say luck is involved:P
@@adisura9904 Yeah! Common statement by Police after accident," Sahab aane wale hai thodi der main settel karlo." LOL 😂
There are some basic things which rider should know apart from "clutch dabao, gear lagao". First aid is the most important thing which we all need to know. And this should be mandatory to all.
Hats off shumi for covering this topic. Please cover post accident legal and police procedure too. Thanks😊
We'll surely look into that Tanmoy!
Shumi a big fan... Hope to meet you in this life I have 🤘🤘🤘
I’m sure we will!

This is a gem❤️.
Share it with all the people you care about.
I'm sure this will save their life one day.
I've been in a serious bike accident and got saved from a potential spinal injury just because those people who picked me up and got to hospital had some first aid knowledge.
Thank God, I left the hospital with some scratches, but my bike had repairs for about Rs 70,000.
It was an RE classic 500.
But now I've rebuild it and since I was uninjured I can Continue riding it.
That shit happened at like 110kmph,
but I had a proper helmet, jacket, glowes, jeans and heavy boots., surrounding people knew first aid, and even though I lost consciousness for few minutes, when I regained it, I could also guide them.
I didn't knew about the tags that day,. but now onwards I'll implement those kinds of life saving ideas.
I'm blessed to live another day after that happend.
Mr. Shumi knows what he is talking about.
That's for sure. 👍🏻
He just shared with us more info than some years of riding experience we can actually achieve.
Well my experience may help some people:
I had 2 major crash where once I was riding alone and second my mother is riding while I was pillion.
So: both case were at very low speed but some common things about Both not good tyre, both time it was raining ( replace these in time be more caution on about type of roads and grips available) or be safe and get an ABS bike which is totally worth your money, second thing we both got some injuries in palm, knees and feet so always wear a thick pant(if not proper biker pant) and tough shoes(e.g. woodland) when you can't wear a riding boot
Always wear gloves even if you can't buy an expensive one it is fine get a 300-400 rupees one at least, and always have good quality good fiting helmet, not so awesome quality like 20k or 30k no proble buy a 1k or 2k but always have proper fitting and always have full face, even if you think it don't look good with scooter or I am a girl I should put half face or it looks cute or whatever you think... There's a lot I can write but now my fingure started giving up, anyways thank you shumi for such inspiration podcast🙏
The most neglected things in motorcycling which are the most crucial things to know about. Thank you shumi for making this video. It will help many riders to improve their skills in motorcycling.
You're doing a great work, keep inspiring and educating us.
Thanks for listening! Please do share!
Lifesaving advice. Parenting/dealing with parents advice. Mental barriers advice. This just might be the most important podcast PD ever made. Thank you!
YES !! There should be video on What to do in case of an accident (legal, insurance etc) apart from medical issues.
Thanks for the video Shumi & powerdrift.
Maybe a month back, I saw a video in UA-cam, where a guy met with an accident in Kozhikode, Kerala. He was riding a scooter & got hit by/had hit a car.
From the video, it was clear that one of his hands had an injury & his leg had a major fracture. In fraction of minutes, he was taken to the hospital in a van, thanks alot for the people who were ready to help.
But the way he was taken to the van, I was feeling the pain, as people were grabbing his clothes & his body to pick him up and take him to the van. That part of the video makes me feel that it might have caused more damage to the man, than that from the accident.
So, I guess we need to give more public awareness, on how to react/take the person who has met with the accident to the hospital.
Its not that "the person should be taken to the hospital soon", its that "the person should be taken with good care to the hospital". So that he/she won't get more injuries after the accident.
Once again, thanks alot for all the videos powerdrift & shumi. Thanks for all those who are willing to help each other.
Stay safe
Take care
Ride safe
Stay happy
super super clear , most effective 20 min spent learning from this .
Glad to hear this was helpful, Amit!
Best topic of UA-cam for Motorcyclist..
Most important topic for riders. Thank you Dr. Shumi. Shared with my friends.

Bro you from ??
Thanks a ton Ninad!
Love the way you put it. Thank you for giving me confidence
Very well put together. Kudos to Schumi and the PD TEAM
Shumi sir is the big brother everyone needs .
shumi is just the best. period.
Shumi being Shumi.... Dropping knowledge bombs.
There is a channel on YT that I came across @Motojitsu. He provides riding tips for every situation we may encounter. The layout of his video is very helpful and quite easy to understand. A small recommendation from my side is to make informative videos in that style at the cost that it won't be a podcast anymore! 😅
As always, you guys nailed it 👍
There was a short span where you discussed about cornering techniques, can we have a podcast or simplified episode on the same ? I could relate to the fact how important is throttle opening and braking are parts of a cornering, would like to learn more.
Shumi taking for 20 min straight and saying it's a short podcast 😂
There’s hour long ones also in there 😆
The podcasts can go for hours bro 🤷♂️. This one thing one should understand each and everything
I guess youtube really shortened our attention span
@@omkarkadu9854 Sure! It must be YT’s fault 🤣
@@shu_mar the guy just painted himself out of the picture😂
It is better to avoid getting into an accident if possible. I have a few things of my own - have patience, don't challenge others, yield if others are rash, want to go ahead of you, if others are coming in your lane from the opposite direction, Slow down at intersections etc.
Quite educative. Please keep doing more such videos. Please do a video on how to choose/ prepare to switch to a bigger capacity motorcycle from 100-150 cc bikes that a majority have learned to ride.
Noted! Thank you!
Wow Thank u so so much!! U have no idea how informative this information is! ❤
Thanks PowerDrift, it was needed. Nobody does this type of video. Huge Respect to u Guys❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
All for the #PDArmy!
Sit you said very correct one should understand what went wrong to prevent further accident.
In fact one should understand that what can go wrong .
Regard to speed ,traffic ,other drivers and unexpected scenario
🙏🙏🙏 sumi thanks so much for this podcast .
Greetings, I had an accident with a tractor, this January my mistake was to attempt overtaking from the left of the vehicle on a single lane road.
I slowed down a bit, before accelerate. I saw the tractor was not using any indication it was shifting to the right, I attempted overtaking from the left and I was at 60kmph in Bajaj V15. As I reached the engine side of tractor it takes a sudden left turn, I straightforward hit the tractor's front wheel as it was right in front of me.
I hit, flung out from the bike, rolled in air two times, hit the road face first.
I was wearing jacket, shoes, gloves and full face helmet steelbird sba2. The impact broke my nose bone into three parts.concusion on the forehead. Slight injury In the knee.
I was fortunate enough to not to get in touch of any metal parts of the tractor, If my minimal gear wasn't available my accident could have been the end of life.
Yes I am afraid of riding bike, have to come to Bangalore for work after accident. currently riding a scooty but only for very few distance. But I love riding and miss my bike. I will be going back toh my native place Kolkata and I will ride my bike again by keeping my mistakes on my mind.
This video has given me alot of insights how to dela with this situation. Thank-you power drift.
I'm not a big fan of this channel but I'm a big propeller
Thank you! 😀
😂😂😂
Please do a video about dealing with an accident where you are at fault, where you are not at fault, how to deal with police & insurance, what are your rights & duties, etc.
Shumi is like a big brother in biking and life to me
Woo hoo! Bromance spotted!
This podcast is really really useful and pls make the next podcast on driving school and it's advantages in day to day street riding
We have! It should be the first or second episode of the Podcast
Essential gyaan, much appreciated, Thanks!
... Also, introspection after a close shave, where have I gone wrong to reach this situation. This may prevent another similar situation where one may avoid a collision.
Exactly!
The biggest thing that I've learnt when encountered myself in an accident or with someone else is never drink water because if the head or something is damaged internally then it can be fatal.
One of my uncle died due to this 3 years ago 😢. Met with an accident broke his right leg completely even crushed knee as truck went over him🙁. He got internally damaged as well. We weren't there so village locals let him drink water when he asked it😢. And while in ambulance, he passed away 😑😕
Thank you
Amazing...thank you for making all aware...🙏🏼
Very Very useful 👍 It was a must. And specially from an experienced rider like you❤️

Most of the time we get 101 first aid experts in the scene🤪... As bikers it is important for us to learn to handle the situation better.. Beautifully explained..👌🏻
Very informative. Keep on posting these kinda content more often. kudos!!
Good information 👍
Nicely presented thoughts. Could correlate with habit of thinking what contribution I have done in the crash. For me it gave an insight into defensive riding and using peripheral vision to spot possible dangers ahead of time. This session was worth spending time onto 👍
Thanks for watching! Would you share this with your friends? It would really help us!
@@shu_mar Done already Sir 👍

Shumi the great legend 👏
Brilliant in its simplicity and getting the key basics in place. Right down to smaller points like most effective ICE info display. @Shumi: you generate, hands down, THE most valuable content for two wheeler riders in India.
I hope your SM “influence” can convert a wider target audience to be safer riders, motorcyclists and scooterists alike.

Great Information Sir 🔥 Loved it❤️ want more videos like this👍
Well done 👍👍
Sometimes xrays don't give proper result and doctors don't realise. I had a scaphoid fracture that couldn't be detected for a month until after a CT scan.

And I have also subscribed to you guys on google Podcasts. 😊
This is very informative and helpful. Thank you Shumi and PowerDrift! 🙌🏼
Thanks for listening! Would you share this with your friends? It would really help us!
Please make podcast about two topics related to this, I guess a lot of people would be in necessity is;
1. Legal side of these situations.
2. It is very common in India to get harassed by cops in India, especially if you have an expensive motorcycle, or you are wearing protective gears.
What to do? How to deal with these situations? Your experiences? I know a lot of that depends upon presence of mind of the individual but any advice would be nice. Also, advice from any head cop of a metropolitan city or legal authorities would be a bonus. Thanks.
Shumi Sir❤️.... I have seen all your podcasts they are always awesome....thank you so much for such a good content 🙂

Hey Shumi, Please do a video on chain lubes and please throw some light on some good quality chain lubes.. Also I heard it multiple times from the mechanics from various garages saying that putting some used engine oil will do the job.. Do you think it is okay!? If not why.
Used engine oil can work. But I prefer Putoline DryTec or TechChain.

Very important issue and nicely covered. We generally tend not to dwell on this as we believe it can never happen to us. As a podcast request - I heard somewhere that we in India by law cannot modify cars. Is this true? And if so, the thought process behind this would be great. Thanks Shumi.
True! Indian law says all modifications are illegal. Nothing to discuss. 😂
