I don’t care if this is a student film, an independent project, or a full funded feature. If this edition ever hits the web I will be among those dying to watch.
They had this film posted on UA-cam a while back.
It looks like Lupin III but it's incredibly generic and lacks finesse in direction. It's a typical heist film with none of the style of an average Lupin III animated episode.
In other words, it's a TERRIBLE film.
The first live-action Lupin III film, Psychokinetic Strategy, is MUCH better.
Most live-action adaptations of anime are TERRIBLE, even if they're produced by Japanese studios.

I saw this on UA-cam a couple years back.
It's a TERRIBLE movie. Yes, the actress who played Fujiko was hot but that's about all that's good in it. The first Lupin III live-action film, Strange Psychokinetic Strategy (1974), is far better even with its issues! The more recent live-action film might look more like the anime but it is bland and very generic. Every animated bit of Lupin III including the turkey specials is better than that second live-action Lupin III movie.
At least 90% of the live-action adaptations of anime are terrible whether they're produced by Netflix or the Japanese! I can count on one hand the live-action adaptations that I DID like. (Hint: NONE of the good films were produced by Netflix!) The decent adaptations were still produced in Japan but they're far from typical for live-action which is still overwhelmingly bad.
The funny thing is that I don't like the animated versions of Ultraman. Ultraman plays better in live-action!
"He should have been French." His grandfather was French. In Lupin III Part 2, Zenigata refers to Lupin as a "womanizing Japanese cheapskate."
This is the 2nd live action movie. The first one came out in the 70s. It's very silly.
Lieutenant BaconWaffles, he could be part French but look more Japanese. Theres a whole what, two generation difference between the “original” Lupin and our love able thief? Not to mention Monkey punch made this guy based off that series and added the 3rd so he wouldn’t get grief from the creators of the original Arcane Lupin. In short, what’s it matter where he’s from so long as he looks the part, and I’d say its a great fit

Gosh, judging from the trailer, I pretty much can say that this is a great fil itself but bruh, crossover between Dao Ming Si, Rui Hanazawa and Song Woo Bin just tears me up😭 and last year, Jerry worked with Shen Yue...I'd die if he works with Win from Thailand!

Holy crap! I'm a huge Lupin the third fan and I had no idea this even came out till yesterday when I was researching Lupin's pistol. I had originally mistaken it for the Luger P-08 but its the Walther P-38. So yeah I see images of this live action stuff I'm thinking "Ok wow cool do they have a Lupin live action movie in the works?" Damn I cant belive it came out and I missed it. This looks pretty freakin cool if you ask me, it looks and sounds like the classic cheesy style of the originals series and movies with the same kind of flare. The seeing Goemon chop a car in half just like the show is priceless. I have to find this movie!

bruhh not the ppl mad that lupin didn’t look and talk white and French 💀 he is half French half japanese, he outright says so in part 1 at some point. (Monkey punch was also quite involved in the first part in the first half of it, so there’s also that.) He is stated to look more Japanese than French, enough that some ppl seem to mistake him for native japanese person sometimes. (There is an episode where the gang awaken an old Japanese general, and that general only figures out Lupin is French when he screams a role call and Lupin responds in French.) Plus, in the anime (you know. What this is based on.) Lupin talks in Japanese primarily, yes bc it’s made in japan but in context I believe he is still meant to be speaking japanese even when it’s dubbed over/translated.
All in all, this guy was a great cast. He does a good job finding his own voice (it’s hard to live up to Yamato after all…especially in a live action medium where the technique is different) and dies a great job w the expressions, the casual swagger lupin constantly has, even the silly faces he pulls. As for the sideburns, well. That may have been a costuming choice on purpose so as not to take away from Oguri’s eyes and face, as prosthetics sometimes do. Or they were simply going for a different, more “realistic” look for him. Either way it doesn’t look bad, he still looks like Lupin! Hot take but I actually think the main casting in this movie was pretty well done, except for mayyybe Zenigata on appearance only (I liked his mini series cast a lot tho)
In short, Lupin iii is Japanese in concept and execution, and Lupin himself is half Japanese. A Japanese man can definitely play him.
When I saw this, I was shocked because Meisa Kuroki looks exactly like Liza Soberano of the Philippines...check it out...wow!

depends. There wasn't any real major drama for the characters, its entertaining but is a filler story when you come down to it, rather than a entry that has something important to say or add.
But then again, so are a lot of the Lupin 3rd animated movies. So if you liked those, this is right up there, just in live action. Everyone does a bang up job in their roles and it FEELS like a Lupin 3rd story. Which is the important thing.

This is cool, and all, but it's a bit jarring seeing a French character played by a Japanese actor. I don't know if I can sit through an hour and a half looking at this. He's not a bad Lupin, but look at that man and try telling me his name is Arsène Lupin the Third.

Okay, setting aside my general distaste for live action movies from animes, I got to ask. Is it any good? Does it feel like Lupin III?
No. It's disappointing. Event though I like some of Ryuhei Kitamuras films. This one is weak. Doesn't feel like the anime and it's really boring at times. I also think that the actors don't fit. Shun Oguri and Tadanobu Asano are great actors but they don't fit just like the other actors. I watched the movie in a plane and fell asleep at some point :D
That's not only my opinion. Look around the internet for ratings and reviews. This movie got mixed to bad ratings/reviews.

Damn, not everything needs to be live action. Easily half of the appeal of the Lupin cartoons is the beautifully characterful animation. With real humans, it just looks like a corny low budget generic action movie.
