I would rather feed you for a week than a fortnight Miss Josey! You really can put the food away. I can see that I would have a lot of 'leftovers' for tomorrow if that was me! You are a legend. Thx.
Actually it’s less than 1 dollar. It’s about 80 cents for a meal. Such an affordable peaceful country with a variety of healthy and organic food. Y’all should visit Uganda 🇺🇬.
I know that place very well, our dad used to bring us to that place to have lunch🤗 three daughters, two could hold his arms and the third onto his shirt in Kampala streets It makes me miss him😇...thanks, Miss Josey!!
Wow, you guys call it "pilao", while us Romanians call it "pilaf"! It makes you wonder how two totally different languages in two different continents end up with almost the same word.
In Greece we call it pilafi (πιλάφι), I think the recipe was brought over from Persia during the time of Alexander the Great, there are very many different versions. From where my parents came from in Greece, the rice is fluffy and cooked in a meat stock, then the mixture placed on top. My mum used to make one with really tender meat, mushrooms and a bolognaise-like thick sauce and a variety of vegetables, was amazing.
Charges are based on distance, 14- seater minibus charges about 1.5 dollars(5000 shillings) for a 10 km distance, motor cycle 🚲 (Boda boda) may charge 15000 shillings. Longer distances between cities( buses charge 30,000 -60,000 shillings) for 150 km-500 km. Transport system is run by individuals who may own one or more cars 🚗/buses /motorcycles/bicycles, or some companies.
There are many varieties of meals and different people have different choices, steamed plantain (matooke) is common, other dishes include mingled millet cake(kalo) normally served with traditional mayonnaise(eshabwe) and roasted meats etc ,there are also Asian foods like rice, posho, as well as fast foods.
I used to eat food in this place about 15yrs ago. Back then all food with beef used to cost 1/2 a Dollar. Would top it up with a bottle of dilute orange juice. Meee..n I loved it

Om trying to help someone I know in Uganda to get some food Maybe someone can tell me if you can still get a meal for $1 or what would the price be now if prices have changed?
