The scene where that dude attempts to cook was easily more stressful than any deaths in this movie. It was the secondhand embarrassment that made me feel true terror 💀
Yes cause it was oh you know more than me prove it…I chuckled so hard
That scene was definitely impactful! Tyler represents the fans, the fanatics who think because they study what others do and study everything there is to know about a field, that they could do it themselves. Boasting with his “knowledge”, but ultimately is unable to do any of it. Perfect exposure of who he really was, which was ultimately nothing. No substance, just pompous in feeling they “know” what’s up.

I loved that the scene where Margot beats the shit out of Tyler was completely improvised, he had no idea she was going to do that. She went to the director and basically said :"Oh no I need to get mad, he needs to pay".
Yes, I think the script originally called for her to cry or something reserved like that,
But Anya said no, that would actually make her character pissed
And I think that was genius on her part.
Even Ralph's response
"you can't blame her can you?"
Just showing his contempt for Tyler.
The minute that no bread was served was a red flag. The chef's artistic spirit was so broken by those people he really said "DEATH TO ALL OF THEM."
Tyler literally died of embarrassment I-
Hong Chau who played Elsa was so convincing playing a restaurant manager, that she was offered a job by the person consulting for the movie!
that would've been amazing
Makes sense Dominique Crenn and Hong Chau would get along
The Menu is the culinary Midsommar
OMG i literally said the same thing
I thought the same thing
Except I liked this.
I actually had 0 clue on what was going to happen in this movie but one thing for sure is that by the end of the movie I also wanted to get a cheeseburger because that looked DELICIOUS!!! Also Anya Taylor Joy is so gorgeous that I can't take my eyes off her.
I mean I’m done watching the movie and I am still not 100% sure of what I witnessed. But babyyyy Miss Joy gave me EVERYTHING I needed and then some💃🏻💃🏻
This movie made me hungry. So I did get a cheeseburger after I left AMC. lol
YES!!! I craved a juicy cheeseburger after 🍔🍔🍔🍔
I was sitting here thinking now what did that cow do to you? 😂
StoppI literally got an amazing veggieburger from Nandos right after because that cheeseburger looked so good 😂
The way Anya's character gets out of the situation is GENIUS. I adored that scene. It was perfect.
One thing I noticed is that Ms. Westervelt's absence implies one of two things; either Tyler found out everyone at the dinner was gonna die and he stopped her from coming so she wouldn't die OR he actually TOLD her about it and she left his ass. Considering his personality throughout the film, I lean towards the latter.
Or a third is she broke up with him but was going to go with him (and he knew SHE was going to die). She probably never knew.
@@JDMimeTHEFIRST Yeah I think this one is more believable because assuming she was not as batshxt crazy as Tyler she would have probably informed the authorities by then and there would be no movie
I think that he tried to hook up with someone maybe over an app, booked the restaurant for both of them as a surprise.
She left his ass but he still needed someone to fill her space so he hired an escort
It was stated that Tyler was told about everyone dying at the dinner, given Tyler's obsession I can 100% believe that his ex found out and ditched his ass. But since Tyler needs a +1 to even attend the dinner he paid for Margo to come with him, which has to be one of the biggest asshole moves in the entire movie.
Oof
The critique on how fine dining, expensive gourmet shit culture, that a culture of a restaurant can also become toxic, cultish and the eat the rich vibe this movie gives its just perfection
it’s also a play on class structure and the issue with those who only consume and take and those who provide and or serve them
I'm sorry but this movie was not "eat the rich" it was just rich people trying to copy "parasite". It was so painfully hollywood american, the cheeseburger scene made me cringe so hard, I feel like foreign directors could do a movie like this tastefully and subtly without cheesing all the dialogue like it’s a damn marvel movie
@@mikei6605 Yes in a film where one of the the main themes is the joy and appreciation of making something simple, genuine and satisfying and not some deconstructed avant-garde up it’s own elitist ass bullshit

@@mckenzie.latham91 exactly. The Cheeseburger is supposed to be something easy and simple.
@@mckenzie.latham91 As a fine dining service worker and artist myself, to me this movie is just a sad director jerking himself off while making fun of something he doesn't understand. You can't hate on "elitism" while also making fun of artists and the working class. You would just be aligning yourself with fascism and its hate for avant-garde art in favour of the "simplicity" of traditionalism, which is greatly represented in this film by the ultimate symbol of American consumerism and postmodern nostalgia: the cheeseburger.
Elsa's "I didn't forget" as her last words moment was so incredibly impactful to me even though it seems like a throwaway line and most people probably overlooked it. As a food industry worker myself, I literally can not forget that moment. Thankless and underestimated, even in death....
It's also a hint to us that Slowik set the barrel thing up as a test for Erin/Margo
Which turned out to be true
I love that Tyler wasn't allowed to finish the meal once chef understood what he had done. Literally all Tyler wanted was to burn at the end and chef denied him! 😂
Yes, he doesn't even get to be a part of the menu
The ultimate burn by Slowik.
Or maybe he thought the chef was going to spare him, instead he humiliated him and went "just go hang yourself, 'kay? you suck"

fun facts about the movie: in order to play one of the chefs in the background you had to have real restaurant experience. and when you see them cooking in the movie, they are actually cooking and all the food was real, so no more actor's being given food and not eating any of it. oh and anya was my bi awakening. literally saw her in unbreakable when i was 7 and i paused it to stare at her.
My bi awakening was Kevin Bacon in footloose lol
if i was in margots place i would’ve just died tbh, the mind game would’ve been to smart for me!! glad we can add a new final girl to our list
I read the original script to this movie (blacklist script). There was a whole heap of changes and it actually ended up better and the way she survived makes more sense (in the original script, Margot wasn't an Escort. One of quite a few changes.)
original casting for this was Emma Stone...now if Anya and Emma played sisters, my God, the fabulousness would be amazing.
EMMA?! I’m trying to picture her in this and all I’m seeing is her saying UUUU BURN as she’s walking out the restaurant😂
@@zzavid5911
Yeah, I'm guessing she dropped out due to the pandemic because she was cast in 2019, and Anya replaced her in mid-2021 when COVID settled down and could look for replacements
hi! what was margot's job in the original script? and how did it end?
what was margot's original job? also i've always thought emma and anya looked kinda similar... love that
the other day though I read someone's comment where they said that the reason Margot survives is because of the true nature of her profession. The true part of being an escort (ok this applies more to a courtesan which of course is different that just being a regular prostitute) is making their clients feel good about themselves. That doesn't mean just giving really good sex in the various ways you can, and that doesn't mean just stroking their ego (or anything else). The clients pay for an escort or a courtesan's company, not just his/her body, and that's why they pay them so much because they make them feel good about themselves. Same to a degree with being a geisha - someone wrote about being in a tea house with a geisha and feeling himself be seduced just by her conversation. This person pointed out that her job has been degrading and meaningless for her same as the chef's job has for him, make worse by the fact that her client hired her just to kill her like she wasn't even human. She survived that night because she made him feel good about himself and brought back just a taste of his passion for his work.
I'm still wondering what her job was in the original script, but when you think about it like that her being an escort is kind of significant to the plot.
“He proceeded to wrap a telephone chord around her neck and pull it tight”

The fact that she can hold her own against Ralph freaking Fiennes in a scene… hot damn ❤❤❤
She is amazing, but I this is one of her weaker roles in my opinion Her character was just so bland and predictable. She could had a much better and more interesting character.

I felt the same way! I just figured it was because it was the only food I could identify!
It says nothing, bc it makes the most sense. If you watch the movie, most of the dishes aren't shown to look necessarily appetizing.
Ffs, the 'bread plate' is only spreads, no bread.
not gonna lie when the cheff was cooking the hamburguer and feeling finally happy about it, was kinda wholesome.
This reminded me a lot to Midsommar too: The music, the cult-ish vibes, the ending, the weird looking places, and mystery, and how everyone was weird as if that was a normal attitude to have.
Yessss! I see your vision
Anya Taylor Joy is doing wonders for all the movies she graces. She makes it seem like Thriller/ Horror movie genres are constructed around her.
One thing about Margot dress that I absolutely loved is that the dress is normally without the lacy, so it shows that she had to put it on to make it more "apresentable" and "fit" to go to the restaurant, probably required by Tyler.
The cheeseburger represents to me how food can remind us of moments in our lives when things were simpler and the happy memories associated with them. But also it is the symbol of feeling a sense of fulfillment as we see Chef Slowik making it. Margot/Erin gave him the ultimate gift of reminding him of what cooking used to mean to him. Something that all the success and accolades Chef Slowik attained could not do. 🍔
Baybeee! I immediately started cracking up when you said “just give me some rice and beans.” You would so be the final girl in this crazy ass movie 😂. And I’m living and dying for the sweater, double collar and cameo necklace. Gorgeous combo.

I love that this film doesn’t go where you think it’s going to go, my sick mind thought they would literally be eating the rich. The scene where she goes full Karen is my favourite, what is said without saying anything was brilliant, it was just two service workers, giving each other an experience that finally made them feel fulfilled.
Yeah the cannibalism idea was so obvious I'm glad the film took it in another direction while still able to point out the economic, class and societal commentary

I love this film so much. It has so much to say about the commodification of art, and the need to sacrifice your passion in order to survive financially. It's the whole reason John Leguizamo's character was there, chef was fucking PISSED that he sold out on his art for an easy paycheck. I enjoyed how the "takers" were so used to being served and catered to that they weren't able to serve themselves enough to escape. They're essentially docile cattle. SO GOOD.
Lots to say about the service industry too. The angel investor that didn't even care about his artistry (tasting menus are very specific and curated). The "man's folly" commentary on the rampant sexism in the industry. And the way Margot survived because she reminded him of his joy and passion, making snacking food that made people happy. Ugh. Love love love.

Ikrr like what is the reason…😊
As a small-time artist who has had a shop, I love this movie.
I worked in the food industry and could not afford to go to school, but I learned 3d in my spare time through youtube, etc.
I have gotten genuine critiques but I have also gotten the more nastier side of how people can be.
topping that with me working in the food industry for scraps I understand how it feels to lose your passion.
how crushing people can be without even knowing or acknowledging the words that they share could be like daggers or a bullet piercing the skin.
the repetition and pain you put yourself into to learn your craft and have it be so easily manipulated or stolen from you.
this movie felt as though it was a lot of working-class people in food, art, etc.
who needed an outlet to share the pure anger or sadness they endure that's mostly the most underpaid.
so many hoops you have to jump into, to hope you get noticed by blurry faces until you realize you work for them now.
your craft and soul work for those you don't even see and thus you feel like a husk.
but then anger boils in your stomach, and grows until finally, you wish to do nothing more than to snap on those who you feel made you feel so worthless.
those who stole your love and joy for your craft.

Watching Tyler fail at cooking is collectively the most satisfying and humiliating part of the movie.
Say whatever you want, honey, but this doesn't happen at McDonalds. 🍔🍟🍦
When my sister recommended this movie to me, I was afraid that this movie's gonna be in the same road as Fresh. Cuz I'm still traumatised by that movie. Turns out it gave me Midsommar vibes.
Normally I'm not one for burgers (they try to stuff too much in between the bread, I like it plain and simple, meat and cheese so I can appreciate both), but that cheeseburger at the end did look delicious.
Hong Chau aka Elsa was so damn good in this. The tortilla part sent me. I was dying over that part.
Lord Voldemort wasn’t having any of Miss Joy
Elsa is my favourite! She was such a standout for me! She had me rolling when she was explaining what tortillas are and how professional but condescending she is 😂 I love this movie!
Thank you for another fun video! You have become part of my weekly routine ❤❤
your James Charles jokes will never not be funny
I CANNOT
LMFAOOOOO I know his ears must be ringing but I don’t care, I have too much fun reading his ass
That high pitched WHAT!?!? when Tyler was just like “wow cool didn’t see staff suicide coming” got me good 😂😂
3:51 speaking of have you seen White Lotus 🤭 Sydney Sweeney, Jennifer Coolidge, Alexandra Diddario served in that show.
Also I FREAKING LOVE ANA & NICHOLAS HOULT! The Great was GAS and so was The Queens Gambit ❣
