Elizabeth Berkeley looks more like a schoolteacher than a stripper, and at that the sort of teacher who menaces the slackers in the classroom. That would have been a better direction for her career in extensions of Saved by the Bell.
... I know that Westerns were out of vogue at the time, but Stallone might have fared well in one. To be sure, they allow little room for special effects, and the bad guys usually end up badly.

He was the same about Slashers. His newspaper review of Friday the 13th is really savage (see also: Silent Night, Deadly Night)

you can't just dismantle someone's car because they parked in a Handicapped Spot then acted like a douche about it.
I mean, you can't dismantle a car, period, but let's go along with Mr. Payback having whatever it was - three times the strength I think it said on the screen. (which still isn't strong enough to peel off a car's bumper as if it were duct-taped to the chassis, but whatever.)
it's the idea that it's a just punishment - joyously doing thousands and thousands of dollars of damage to someone's classic car because they were being a jerk is bizarre. not to mention criminal. Mr. Payback would end up in a state prison. what a strange movie.

I went and looked at their list of the best of 1995 to contrast and compare. Outside of a few classics like Toy Story, Casino, and Apollo 13, most are long forgotten. Leaving Los Vegas was a critical darling that won Oscars yet no one ever talks about it. Meanwhile Showgirls is a cult classic that is still shown In packed theaters. Funny how these things work.

      Gene Siskel's 10 Favourite Movies of 1995
      Crumb
      Toy Story
      Nixon
      Babe
      Dead Man Walking
      Leaving Las Vegas
      The American President
      Exotica
      Apollo 13
      Les Miserables
      Roger Ebert's 10 Favourite Movies of 1995
      Leaving Las Vegas

      Casino
      Apollo 13
      Exotica
      My Family
      Carrington
      A Walk in the Clouds
What's "funny" is your dumb ass observation.
      a) Anyone with two eyes and a soul can see that Leaving Las Vegas (and every other movie here) is vastly better cinema than Showgirls.
      b) the only reason anyone "still talks about" Showgirls is because of how comedically awful it is, which is the reason, if any that...

    • @michaelmcdonald8452

      c) Showgirls is still shown to packed theaters

that it's so bad it's actually enjoyable in spite of itself.

Well I mean that was the appeal behind S&E. You might agree with them both about one movie, agree with only one of them about another, or just completely disagree with both of them. S&E were a form of entertainment for movie lovers who wanted to hear what these two had to say and then compare thoughts and opinions with their own. Whether they ended up being spot on or way off, it's all part of the show's concept and it was a great idea. People just need to get a grip and quit bashing these two for becoming legends in something they loved and died doing.
