No doubt that not all immigrants are good but that can be said of all groups. Most of our mass shootings have been white men. Should we demonize all white men? Of course not. It is a fact that most immigrants are law abiding and most crimes are committed by US citizens. Most immigrants come here to try to escape being terrorized or harsh conditions in their original countries. Demonizing all of them for the transgressions of a very few is just not cool. Of course hold criminals accountable. Both citizens and non citizens.

    • @Jojo-ow1ml

What happened to Laken Riley was horrific.
But statistics show that more crime is committed by US born citizens than immigrants. There will always be criminals regardless of where they're from.
I think we all agree that something needs to be done to control the border issue.....and it's obvious, its not an easy issue to solve.
So many immigrants are trying to escape unsafe or violent conditions. Or hoping for a better life for themselves and their families. I've often thought about what if I had not been fortunate to have been born in this country and was trying to escape from the situations I mentioned above. Hopefully the bill that was killed to help secure the border will now be passed.

in my 64 years of life experience....I have lived in 12 countries two in North America (Canada and the US) and 10 in Europe. And what I have found to be true is that "immigrants" are more often the hardest working, most law abiding people in most societies I've lived in. I know so many personally that were highly regarded and educated professionals in their country of origin....many with a better command of the english you apparently have and yet are working in unskilled labour jobs to support their families. I've found that many immigrants contribute more to their communities than native born residents...because they actually understand about community. And frankly if you want to look at the bare stats on violent crime in the USA specifically...far more (by orders of magnitude) violent crime is committed by natural born Americans than immigrants legal or otherwise. If anyone sounds ridiculous it's you.

    • @AWilliams-m6e
      @AWilliams-m6e Місяць тому +6

Oh..and sorry..the abortion thing is a huge issue. I am old enough to remember when young women died needlessly back in the 60s or were forced into abusive relationships because of unwanted pregnancies and social expectations. Seeing us returning to a time of controlling women's reproductive health needs is horrifying. When I was 10, my mother had to carry a dead fetus for weeks because removing it qualified as an abortion. I heard her cry nightly and watched her get sick in front my young eyes not fully understanding for years what was happening. This whole thing is ridiculous. As a healthcare professional I promise that abortions are not about killing new born at all. In fact, I would see doctors going to extensive measures to try to save preemies that I wondered why we were trying so hard to save a life that obviously God had not meant to exist. But that's another whole story about medical ethics. I even witnessed multiple heart, digestive, and airway surgeries on a new born preemie with just a nub of a brain stem for a brain. Why? Because the mother wanted everything possible in spite of that child probably not surviving for too long anyway and no real hope of any meaningful awareness and interaction. Medical professionals do not take letting any sign of life go easily. I really wish that for everyone's well being that y'all quit calling some differentiated cells a heart beat when there is not yet a heart and even more you would allow the person carrying the potential life and their healthcare provider make decisions based on what is best for that family/individual. It is not the only political issue but it is a big one where it comes to controlling someone else's life decisions. Now with this next administration poised to step in, women are basically being told boldly by obnoxious young men that their bodies are for men to do with what they want. Think about that for a while and put yourself in a young woman's place. Handmaid's Tale does not really feel all that far fetched, does it?

As a 50ish straight white woman, I don't care as much about abortion rights as I do about our unsecure border. I've also looked at the nightmare now unfolding in some of our best cities, some now being "sancuary" cities. Unlike the media sitting behind their desk, I've been in these streets, and as a nurse, i get a front row seat to the madness. In the community, ive seen what the drugs can do to a person and their families. I've taken care of victims of violent crimes of all sorts. I've had to beg and persuade truly ill individuals to please come to the hospital for care when i see them in home care but they worry because they cant and wont be able to pay the bill but, then I see the "illegals" receiving free healthcare and being "boarded" in my hospital for MONTHS because Federal laws junking up the wheels won't allow us to discharge them... It's a real mess. Do you ladies know or wven care just how expensive that is to our citizens? Have either of you ever received a bill in the mail after a hospital stay? It's outrageous even to those of us who pay our freakin insurance premiums! You ladies seem terribly out of touch. Sometimes, i listen to you talk now, Katie and it gets me so upset! I used to watch and listen to you every day after work. Ugh. I cant believe I thought you knew everything! In all fairness, that was 20ish years ago. I think I stopped watching TV and going to movie theaters around 2010? Ive been forming my own opinions since then.
The left leaning media only shows far,far right leaning whackadoodles. The right leaning media only shows far, far left leaning whackadoodles.
The left campaign was lead by a talking head who was very bad at it. Watching those democratic rallies.... was difficult. The "entertainment" that had to be paid in order to fill the seats shows how detached from reality that party has become. And, so raunchy. For some reason though, it appears the people of the left respond best to entertainers and others who get paid to ACT for a living. They just cant handle reality and the only ones who feed their delusions are the ones they pay to say what they want to hear.
At the end of the day, i think most Americans are tired of all the special interest groups. Most of us work hard for what we've earned and would like to keep it. We want fairness for all so nobody cries foul. We are Americans, and that's our group. We need to protect our land and keep our people safe from those on the far right and those on the far left.

I think a huge reason Trump won is because he and many people in his coalition actually went to many rural communities and spoke to people while the left was so focused on what he said. It's the difference of being talked AT vs being talked TO. And Jen, they LIED about what he said. Good people on both sides? Seriously we are smart enough to go look at the original clip. Trump DID go talk to the average person, did tons of podcasts and was authentic. Maybe you didn't like his authenticity, but those who watched him, most of them appreciated that he just was who he was. He didn't change based on who he spoke to. He listened and even took some very great ideas seriously.
Trump has never been against all abortion. He has said so a thousand times. The news just spun it in a different way. People can fact check that. Again, the media lost because they were not telling the truth. People get to vote for their State Leadership. So if it's important to them, they can vote those legislators out.
Oh that implicit bias stuff is a crock of bologna. She doesn't have the stature. She has ZERO experience in successfully managing foreign affairs. You slammed Trump for being a misogynist, but never addressed that Kamala's affairs led her to certain offices or connections. Think Ukraine, think the boarder Czar... yes that's again a lie from the media that she was not given that title... again... something every American can fact check. So stop LYING.
Jen, most Republicans and even some Democrats voted against it. You guys kept blaming Trump. It wasn't Trump, it was a crappy bill. Do you know how much money actually went to the boarder vs other countries? Not even mentioning the terrible boarder policies.
And see Katie, you're still doing it. You calling him a racist for the eating dog and cats comment. That is not bigoted. Most Americans do not think that is bigoted. The conversation needs to be that 30,000 people of a different culture, who don't know our laws, were dropped in the middle of a town who could not handle the influx. It wouldn't have mattered if it was Hattians, or some other country. If they dropped 30,000 of ANY culture who did not know our laws this would be an issue. Can you see that? They are bringing migrants into towns for industries, paying them less and with less regulation. That's just wrong.
How do you manipulate people getting murdered? How do you manipulate Venezuelan gangs taking over apartment complexes in several states. This has NEVER happened before. Why are you defending these numbers when we've had the largest migration in HISTORY in the last 4 years. Can you admit that? We don't want to be gaslit anymore. The boarder number might be down now, but that is not what HAS happened. And it happening all over the world. You may very well be reporting that, and I hope you are. The populations of ALL countries who have been overrun by migrants are rising up to say NO MORE.
Maybe if we taught our kids the value of hard work, and that a college degree is not ALL that makes them successful, and maybe if we paid them what they deserve to be paid... then they would WANT to work in those places. It's much bigger than, American's don't want to do those jobs. If they pay enough, they'll do them.
I love Jen that you are introspective right now. I would say standing strong to protect illegal immigrants over your legal citizens is not going to go well. Spending other people's tax dollars on illegal immigrants over spending those tax dollars on your people, is not a winning strategy.
You saying that "I" knew Trump was racist and sexist and looked the other way is 100% incorrect. I looked into FACTS, I took into account the age in which he was born, I looked at his friends (and he has friends of every nationality and color). I looked at who was lying about him repeatedly. I mean, you never talk about the African Americans, who he won in increasing numbers, that Hispanics that he won... can you please just take a step back and look at the logic of what you are saying? And yes, it is individuals you are criticizing. You are disappointed in ME. And you and I have not even had a conversation. You don't know what color my skin is, you don't know my history, you don't have the facts Biden has said some VERY racists things specifically, but because he's a Democrat, he got a pass? He's automatically not racist?
I feel very bad about the way he was treated. And he should not currently be President. Can we talk about that?
You're right, you don't know what her position is on Gaza, because she wasn't AUTHENIC about this issue or any issue. Her flip flops were every day. She took policies that Trump had already announced and didn't give him credit for them.
Of course he is concerned for Gazans. Everyone is. They despise Hamas right now. Hamas is stealing their aid, shooting them for trying to fight for food for their family that Hamas stole when the aid trucks came in. Can this have equal coverage? There are even Palestinians (not Hamas protesters) who WANT Israel to finish Hamas and help them rebuild and keep Hamas out. They love Israel for getting this horrible regime out of their territory.
Katie, the blow job thing? Did you watch the video? I just watched it because I hadn't heard that and always like to verify. He was clearly (in context of what he was saying) trying to bring the mic higher and it wouldn't move, so he was mimicking having to bend over and speak into the low mic. Good grief. Where is your mind? If you've ever spoken on stage, you try to get the mic to move up if you are taller person. His wouldn't move up. Go back and watch it with THAT in mind. Then judge accordingly. It wouldn't even have made sense to simulate a sexual act (which he has never done) at that point in the speech.
Oh so much more. Trump has condemned white supremacists OVER and OVER again. Why do you keep brining that up? Remember the black vote? The Hispanic vote? The Muslim vote? Even though you won't talk about how Trump condemned WS and Nazi's over and over, you never report on that, but we all can look up FACTS. That's what the news is suppose to be, not obfuscating facts.
Ladies, I wish you the best. I just jumped over here because of a clip I saw and I wanted to see it in context (like we all should do every time) Bottom line is. Report it ALL. If it's good about Trump, report that too. If it's bad about Kamala, report that too. It's the one sidedness that we are all so tired of. Both sides.

My view from Canada: The way I see it, the last three nominations in a row were not truly democratic. The Hilary Clinton nomination was heavily influenced by the top party brass because there was a general feeling she deserved it. Likewise with Biden, the powers that be decided he deserved it for his loyalty to the party, and due to missing out on his chance to Hilary Clinton four years earlier. With Harris there was not even the pretense of democracy. She was anointed. Next time the Democrats would be well advised to allow the process be more democratically legitimate.

Immigration has been more controlled in the past months. Sadly so many people hear the message put out there that "the borders are open" and don't look to see how real that is. I find it interesting that the they are speaking that being born here does not make you a citizen if your parents are not considering that concept would mean that most of us are not really citizens. After Congress was not able to pass the immigration reform at the beginning of his term and after the Covid restrictions were removed , which is after 2021, why didn’t he take the decisive action he took in 2024. Two white educated women who still don’t understand the most simple concepts. We want lower prices (from eggs, butter, milk and fuel) safe streets, a fair judiciary, peace in the world, etc, etc. it’s okay to have abortion in the hands of the state and we see the DOJ and FBI who lost their focus etc, etc. Most people want a smaller federal government and more power with the states. Fewer regulations that prevent smaller businesses to build from the ground up. Harris is not a leader and everyday people, even in other countries, know she cannot be taken serious. We don’t want elitist who just seems to hate working class people and call us names like Obama, Clinton and Biden has done. We are Americans with a different philosophy on how our government works for us. I’m a first generation American and a conservative and I want a government that doesn’t look for ways to go after free speech and doesn’t want to defund the police and elevate criminals.
These two are so out of tune with most Americans they will never understand us so to the new Democratic party. You went to far and it made America’s believe that if you lie to us, ignore our plight, and do everything that you accuse Trump of doing we see just more of you willing to lie to us and being a threat when it’s obvious to us that you are the real threat.

The complete disconnect from what is really going on with ordinary, working class Americans is beyond belief and woe betide any of them think differently as you will attack them with a vengeance and you are supposed to be the caring party! If immigration were easy to solve, somebody would have figured it out. It is my feeling, separate from my pick for President, that we need to stop this mass exodus into our country. I am getting older. I want medicine to be there for me years from now and for ER's not be so broken from immigrants with no insurance using them as their general physicians. I've always thought there should be a think tank of the most brilliant minds that could solve some of these problems. This election result made me realize I do not know my country anymore.

Most people that run on it don't want to solve it because its a great issue to campaign on. Trump was the first one on either side that actually tried to do something about it and actually got something done. Enough so that people realized it was possible. Our representatives have been failing us for a long time.

Abortion is a concern that has majority support, but the economy affects everyone everyday. A tax cut for everyone under a reasonable threshold of income instead of picking winners and losers by sector whether it’s students, seniors, first time homebuyers or small biz owners. We needed a bigger and broader appeal to all. The continued redistribution of wealth toward the top would suggest this to be fair.

Interesting discussion, but the more important question is what is the democratic party going to do with regard to this election loss. And why did they lose what should have easily been the most winnable election in a long time, against perhaps the most flawed candidate in US political history.
Clearly the primary cause of the election loss was a failure of voter turnout. In 2020 democratic turnout was 81 million vs. only 73 million in 2024. A drop of about 8 million. Whereas republican turnout in 2020 was 74 million vs 76 million in 2024. An increase of about 2 million. In short an epic failure of voter turnout by the democratic party.
One has to blame the operational leadership of the democratic party for the failure of voter turnout. Is that not their primary job in an election? If so, they failed miserably. If a Mike Bloomberg with his professional staff had been running the democratic operations, it is inconceivable that this type of disasterous voter turnout would have happened. Time for a cahnge in the nice guy "political hack" operational leadership of the democratic party. Time to brig in some real business type operational leadership. Perhaps a Melinda Gates, or a Mark Cuban, or a Stever Ballmer, or even an Anthony Scaracucchi. Until the democrats do something like that, they will continue to wander in the wilderness and continue to lose election after election.

Was there a lower turn out? Or were there ballots purged or provisional ballots discarded? A simple email or text system to have people confirm their vote then compare numbers to confirm no irregularities. I think that's fair. Just confirm this since we have doubts after many states tried to purge voters off their registries.

There used to be a show called "Point/Counterpoint" where both sides of an issue were discussed in a non-political way. What if we focused on the key issues (economy, abortion, immigration, foreign aid, LGBTQ+, climate, education, healthcare, etc...) and did a deep dive on each? It might also be time to require a knowledge test in order to vote. You have to have a certain understanding to get a driver's license or other certification - why not one for voting rights so people can't say they didn't know?
