Scene from Elvis On Tour (1972) - Mayor greeting Elvis on arrival in Roanoke

- This is another favorite scene of mine from the Golden Globe Award winning documentary "Elvis on Tour" (1972) by Pierre Adidge and Robert Abel.
Elvis is super relaxed and in excellent mood when on his arrival in Roanoke, Virginia, on April 11th, 1972, he is greeted by Mayor Roy Webber ("You goin' to play 'I ain't nothin' but a Hound Dog'??") on his plane. Webber presents Elvis with a toy guitar made by some fans who told the Mayor Elvis had never played Roanoke.
Within two or three seconds (0:50) Elvis remembers that "I played here several times." "You have??" "Yes, Sir. I was in Roanoke when I first started out..." You can practically see how he's digging into his own memory according to friends, relatives and people from his entourage being that of an elephant. Those concerts from May and September of 1955 were almost 17 years away while he was still recording for SUN Records. Still, out of 200+ cities he played from 1954-57 he remembered exactly those three(!) gigs.
I find that pretty amazing showing that even in the 70ies Elvis was in fact absolutely aware of and caring for his career from the beginning to today. Even during an informal meeting like this he proved to be an absolute professional. - Фільми й анімація
How kind and polite Elvis was to him. Elvis Thanked him and patted him on the shoulder. Elvis definitely knew how to take care of business. I was surprised that he didn't give Elvis time to get off of the plane before he greeted him and gave him the guitar decorated with flowers from his fans.. Such a kind and sweet welcome. Elvis knew when he played . He remembered when he played there. There will never be anyone like Elvis. I still love Elvis. He remains King of rock and roll

Gee, the mayor meant well but the insult about Elvis not playing the guitar hurt. Poor Elvis, he was actually an intuitive and accomplished rhythm guitarist and never given his kudos re: his ability to play the piano and the guitar.
Meu lindo Elvis que saudade de você fica com Deus beijos te amo para sempre que saudade de você fica com Deus beijos...🎤🎸🎸🌹🎙♠️♠️🎶🎼🎼⚘🎼♠️♠️
So funny how he Winks at the camera
After watching this again the governor said the girls said you never played guitar. Am I hearing this right everyone ?
Yes, and then Elvis tells him that he played it quite often when he first started and was about to say more but the governor started talking again!!!!!
That’s the Mayor of Roanoke Va Roy L Webber. Not the gov.

The girls who made it said he'd never played guitar? Were they having a joke at the Mayor's expense? 🥴
