Elvis Presley - Scene from "Jailhouse Rock" (MGM 1957)

- 55 years ago today, on November 8th, 1957, Elvis' third movie "Jailhouse Rock" opened nationwide. On Variety's National Box Office Survey it appears at #3 and becomes the fourteenth most successful film of 1957 and pretty impressive if you keep in mind that it started at the end of the year. " By 1969, the film's box office gross in the United States and Canada was similar to that of "The Wizard of Oz". In 2004, "Jailhouse Rock" was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress.
Vince Everett becomes arrested by a society that has nothing to do with the changes that are going on in the younger generation. He leaves jail as a transformed young man seeking his own way in expressing himself through his music. Doing this he's faced with many problem ranging from recording industry matters to lack of understanding by his parent generation.
In this scene Vince joins his manager/girl-friend Peggy who's visiting a party at her parent's house. The people there obviously don't know what to think of Elvis and what he's doing. They're trying to get him involved into a conversation about music but on both sides there's a lack of understanding for each other's position. The only change in music they can imagine is actually a setback to Dixieland. They're instead discussing jazz music and things like atonality, something to which Vince only can reply: "Lady, I don't know that the hell you're talkin' about..." making the generation gap obvious.
When accused of insulting her family and friends by Peggy the only thing Vince can possibly answer is a quote that has become famous over the years: "Honey, that's just the beast in me..." Something untamed, different from what was possible until now. Youth was starting to go its own way. A new age was about to dawn...

He doesn’t have the right to be this hot like THATS ILLEGAL
LOLfunny as hell and I don't even LIKE elvis...but I still went to Graceland just so I could say I'd been there...gorgeous place...everyone should go whether they're an Elvis fan or not !!!
He does, he's the king
Bear in mind he was made up for the scene. Back then in particular movie stars had to look top notch on screen. Today movies are different from what they were years ago although Elvis was a good looking guy
@@RaySchwarz. good looking absolutely gorgeous was elvis beautiful man elvis rip ❤️ love him forever ❤️ the 👑 💐❤️🇬🇧💟
@@ernestinemaloy6752 Just curious, what do you dislike about him? Or just indifferent?
Dear god he's so handsome.
Amber Birch omg yesss I cant
And what a beauties were women in those times! No jeans from trash boxes, no greasy heads, no tattues covering all the bodies.
...and foolish too(right 'til the end).
@@yuryloktionov1948 There is nothing wrong with tattoos and tight jeans.. Get over yourself
Girl I love elvis he was so handsome and I wish I could have met him!
The most handsome man physically who ever lived❤😘😘😘
Hello Margaret
Gorgeous handsome awesome Elvis. Never be anyone like him. I have loved him since I was 13. I am 79 now. Will love him forever X
Same age as me ❤
My Mother loves Elvis. ❤❤❤❤❤
"That ain't tactics honey!...That's just the beast in me!" You go Elvis!
That is my favorite line of all movies !! It's too bad he didn't fight to continue making movies like this. It really showed his talent. He was fantastic and in our hearts he still is.
@@sissy20088 lady i dont know what the hell youre talking about lol jk :)
@@sithlordvader3435 lol 😂 👍 😂 😂 👏👏👏
If you like it, then you should listen the beast on me of LCD PLAZA
Unleash the Beast & conquer! Amen! Elvis #1
I love this scene where he said, "That ain't tactics, honey. That's just the beast in me." Perfect.
Finest and most talented man to ever walk the face of the earth! : )
😂😂😂
@@stephenkirkham4260 keep hatin he's not leaving
Dude was an incredible singer, an amazing performer, and a gifted actor.
Agreed 👍💯
"Lady i don't know what the Hell your talking about" Love that Line gets me every time 😂😂😂😂😂😂
At least he was honest.
I love that line also.
2:01 just in case 😊
Cool Elvis! He's a good actor too. I love these short movie clips, especially when he sings in them. ❤🆒️🎼🎧👏
Both stars were excellent in this movie and complement each other beautifully. Elvis was the complete opposite in real life . A true star gracious and polite with his fans and acquaintances. He is truly the greatest entertainer of all time . Over 30 plus films 1860 plus concerts number one recording artist of all time all by the age of 42! He had it all talent and looks even until the end sick and bloated still held his own in my opinion.
I’m an elvis fan and I’m staying that way too I always live elvis
He nailed this whole movie!!
Elvis as good as Brando. Yes raw talent singing and acting. He should of won an academy award for Kid Cerol. And Love me Tender along with Change of Habit and even this movie. Most handsome ever.
he's sooo handsome! he has the most beautiful eyes!
ELvis was the man
That's just the beast in me! Wow, what woman can resist that!
He is truly beautiful
They broke the mold when they made Elvis 😍🎶
What a scene good acting by Elvis wish I could have seen more more like this
Elvis should be on the Top of Underrated Actors Ever.
Just look at him damn class acting 👍🏻
Yes agree 👍 wonderful elvis ❤️ ☀️ great acter great singer love him forever ❤️
Yes ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
I think this movie is what sent me into early puberty
As a straight 33 year old man I am not ashamed to say that Elvis was a very good looking man.
Damn right, sir
as a straight 63 year old male all i can say is, if Elvis is in the room, the best any guy there can hope for is the leftovers. between Elvis and the rest of the world's male population , we all lose.
Lol, I'm reading all these comments below and it makes me happy that he is still loved. I was lucky, got to see him 3 times. Never let that music die!
He was so beautiful it's almost hard to believe.. I wish I lived in the same era as he did but then again I'm grateful I was born at a time when I can just access almost all of his videos right here
👍👍👍😊
Imani, I was a fan when Elvis was still with us, and still am today. Thanks to the communications technology we have now, it is much better today being an Elvis fan. Anything he ever did I can find on UA-cam. If I wanted to see "Jailhouse Rock" in the 1970s, I had to wait for it to show up on TV.
you make a very wise comment....back then, you could only see his films in the theater when they were brand new, and then after that only when they were shown on one of the three television networks....there was no home video, no internet, no cable TV, and only the very rich had home movie projectors with sound and could rent films ......
That's what I think as well. We didn't get to live when Elvis was around but we have all the content and music of his whenever we want :)
Omg
Probably some of Elvis' best acting.
Arguably the most handsome man ever, and talented, his co star, who died in a car crash after the film was made with her husband, elvis was really effected by this.
They look well suited.
November 8th, 1973 I was born, loving Elvis Presley.
He look so cute in the kissing scene.
Lady, I don't know what the hell you're talking about.......my favorite Elvis line....
My 2nd favorite line of all movies. My #1 line, "That ain't tactics honey!...That's just the beast in me!"
2:02" Lady I don't know what the hell you talking about" LOL.
Neither did I. Can't blame him.
He's so beautiful ❤️
Ruth Hunsbedt Paulsen Yes he is....always will be!
@@sandraherzog9246 I recall Pat Boone said of EP in 1977 "Now, he will never get OLD."
Amen
He is so damn attractive and handsome he could have done everything to me and I would 100% let him do whatever he wants. He is just melting my heart I adore him soo much! There are just no men like Elvis anymore…
He's so straight out with ppl and his attitude with woman's is wow🤭😂😂 now I know why my mum had a big crush on him I can see it he's definitely good lookin for a young boy and got that freaky mind💯 and can dance with his legs😍🥺 also a fast kisser 😳😱
Элвис Пресли. Красивый, обаятельный, романтический. Артист и певец с большим талантом и харизмой. Неподражаемый. Лучший.
This is my favorite of Elvis' films. I read he could never see this film much after it was made because his costar, Judy Tyler was tragically killed with her husband in a car accident. Elvis was very heartbroken because the two had become close during filming.
younare correct, he NEVER saw this film. Could not bear to.
It's been told that ELVIS was so distraught
with the death of Judy Tyler, that he was
unable to attend the movie premier. 6-25-22
Oh my GOSH 🔥 ELVIS beutiful beutiful beutiful man 😍❤️
I don't know how many people realize this Elvis was so great at playing a rebel he never gets the credit for this movies like this Loving You King Creole flaming star wild in the country Kid Galahad always showed Elvis could play and tough kids very well never gets the credit he deserves for his acting Jailhouse Rock is a brilliant movie and he plays a rebel kid very very well as sullen youth with an attitude James Dean Marlon Brando Paul Newman who have played such roles could not have played the role Elvis played in Jailhouse Rock any better forget the music his acting was fabulous in this film he could have easily played on the waterfront the wild one the defiant ones cat on the Hot Tin Roof Thunder Road any movies of rebellious shoes in the late fifties early sixties Elvis could have done Jailhouse Rock is a full star musical drama and the films that I just mention of the actors got cuz his colonel turn to Parts down Elvis had to look Talent charisma and potential to do so much more as an actor too bad could opaka managed his career he was good in the beginning is first five or six years but after that Elvis was ruined he took the Elvis from his roots what achievements more without the colonel the potential has been show that Elvis could really act on more than three or four occasions Elvis was the best at playing Rebel he needed more parts like this God bless Elvis multi-talented man so great when he was young Jailhouse Rock one of the best films of the 50s greatly acted
what you say is correct, but the problem was that the films with dramatic roles made MUCH less profit than the musical comedies....so both the Colonel AND EP decided to stop the dramatic films after 1962,,,,,until he did do two last dramas at the end of his film career. Charro and Change of Habit....and both of them made little profit....Colonel Parker was right, it seems
I screeched when he kissed her
A 👑KING👑 has it always ~ BREATHTAKING CHARISMA........and HE was fully aware of it❣❣❣❣❣
Love this scene. He's gorgeous.
7/21/22 THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER ELVIS, BEAUTIFUL, TALENTED & HUMBLE. 😥💔 I NEVER SAW THIS MOVIE BUT I WILL FIND IT. MY OLDER SIBLINGS WERE INTO ELVIS BUT ONCE I GREW UP, I FELL IN LOVE WITH ELVIS, LIKE EVERY WOMAN IN THE WORLD. JUST SAW THE ELVIS MOVIE WITH MY 18 YR OLD GRDAUGHTER. WE LOVED IT! SAD TO SEE HOW HE ENDED AT ONLY 42. NO ONE HAD HIS BACK BECAUSE EVERYONE WAS LIVING OFF OF HIM, $$$. BUT IN 8/16/1977 HE WENT TO SING TO HIS GOD. 😇🙏
It's 2014. & he's dead. He still manages to make me weak over a line he said years before I was even thought about being born!
There is no modern day pop star rock star movie star as beautiful as him. None of them come close, it's all hype and overratedness.
I wish I was born at the time when he was rocking the world with his twist.....
My favorite part @ 2:03 - 2:05 "LADY, I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL YOU TALKIN' ABOUT!"
+Amber “BuddyPoke PinkGirl” Smith Yet if it happened today there would be a million Tumblr's calling it sexual assault and "literally rape", "TRIGGERED!!!" , and they would want to get the film banned lol
Me in math
Lol! Elvis's face! 1:52!
Give it up with you're righteousness!
Best scene ever ! :D
The coolest scene ever 😎
She was such a beautiful actress one Elvis's best
I Love This Film It Is Amazing 👍
The young Elvis. Classic
A better actor than he was given credit.
so true
Hello Denise
Great acting, great movie, and fantastic song (Jail house rock). I liked him more the Beatles, and I had wasn't even of his generation, his music was much livelier!❤❤
the Beatles were good, but they were the first to admit that they were not on his level....there's a video here on youtube where Paul McCartney says "We did our first record by backing up another singer. But after we became world famous as the Beatles, there is only one singer that we would have ever been the backing band for. And that is Elvis."
God was showing off when he made Elvis,,sexiest man a ever
Hello Sharon
Would’ve loved it if Elvis had been given the opportunity to play serious roles. The man was so supremely talented I think he would’ve been every bit as good as James Dean, Brando......anyone!
Agree .......and he was offered cat on a hot tin roof with Liz Taylor...he would of OWNED that role but the Cornel Tom wouldn't let it happen....Parker knew he would lose him to Hollywood if he did that movie........so SAD
Turns on his heels towards her...."You ain't gonna hate me. I ain't gonna let you hate me." Love that look on his face with those bedroom eyes. 2:43
Yes, Cait, indeed....Its now 2017 and he is STILL dead and he manages to make ME weak over a line he said years ago. What IS it with this guy? The only man who has been dead 40 years and can still take your breath away.
diamondgirl33 I feel you....
🤗 2020
That was his ability
If you like it, then you should listen the beast on me of LCD PLAZA
This reveals how well Elvis could act it would have been great to see him in more serious movies. I like the musicals as corney as some were.
I MISS SO MUCH ❤️😩
My mom doesn't even born yet, but I love this movie and the song
I wasn't born then. But I wish I could have seen Elvis in concert.
We miss you Elvis Presley
My favorite scene !
Just for the record the ‘cheap tactics’ would’ve worked 🤣🤣
Elvis the King forever
Most underrated actor Ever way better than James Dean in his early films
Dean was good, but you're right, EP was the better actor, more versatile....can you see James Dean making a musical comedy well? hahahaha
ELVIS never had acting classes, Dean, Brando and others did. ELVIS had pure talent in anything he did, and they couldn't stand it.
OoooooOh Elvis!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Hottest scene ever..
Nothing cooler!!!!!!!!!!
He's honestly me in a conversation like that, even despite being a musician I can't understand half of music terminology
Classic! The KING did some pretty good acting. Because in real life he was just the opposite of the hood he portrays here.
Hello Annie
1950s Elvis was so cool nobody played Rebel better than Elvis James Dean Marlon Brando they couldn't touch it Elvis when it came to playing the rebel too bad he did not get more chances to play this kind of tough sullen character he was so good at it he was great at playing the tough guy his early movies demonstrate this any of James Dean and Marlon Brando roles Elvis could have definitely have done but Randall and Dean would be lost in a recording studio Elvis was an underrated actor who didn't always get those scripts he deserve but he did make at least 10 great movies flaming star Loving You Jailhouse Rock King Creole wild in the country Kid Galahad it's such an underrated actor very talented and this is a classic scene Elvis was the best at playing the rebel
Judy Tyler was so gorgeous
Elvis giving a damn acting class, and people said he couldn’t act
Any movie Elvis,was in I❤it is the 👑 ❤💯 🙏🎸 🎤🎶⚡ TCB TLC ⚡🎉👍 👏
I love how the women were so elegant then. The clothes were fab.
clothes designers now have put women into rags look at the beautiful fashions they had wow !
I love he is so honest and blunt. I wish I could that.
Adoro questo film ed ELVIS e’ più travolgente che mai. Peccato per la prematura scomparsa di Judy Tyler 😭. ELVIS PER SEMPRE 👑❤️⚡️🇱🇷🥰🇮🇹
People who say he could not act never saw this scene, or this film.....he plays an egotistical heel as well as James Dean in ''Giant'', or Brando in a number of films.
you are right, and interestingly, Brando and James Dean ere probably his 2 favorite actors
I love. Elvis
awww.... lovely ❤
Elvis's great performance in this movie too. The actress is Judy Tyler, if I remember correctly. Thanks✌👑👼❤🌹
♥️❤️♥️
2022! Hey Elvis, we see you!
Judy Tyler died July 2, 1957 cutting short a promising career in films and perhaps more dramatic roles in television. Her appearance in a Perry Mason episode was kept on the shelf for almost six months until it was aired on Dec 28th.
tough guy pretty boy in one cool rebel cant touch him
At 2:52... OMG!
LA MEJOR PELICULA DE ELVIS PARA MI!!😍😍😍
He really was handsome
Elvis Presley the king of rock and roll the best rock and roller ever in the early 50s
This is such a good movie
Ce genre de scène lui va tellement bien. Avec son charisme et son jeu prometteur il aurait pu devenir un grand acteur.. Sans le colonel 😔
100% how I feel about Jazz. 100%
so true!
my literal parents I love them so much
Oh my lord have mercy..
Esta es la parte que más me gusta de esta pelicula!!😘👏👏👏💋
It ain’t tactics honey..... Elvis is the man!!!
elvis you can use those cheap tactics on me any time you'd like, honey.
Such a shame that Tom Parker had pound signs on his mind .. Elvis could have been a great actor
he DID make some great dramatic films, but they were much less profitable than the musical films.....Flaming Star, Wild in the Country, Follow That Dream, Charro...all dramas....plus the boxing film
MUY BUENA ACTUACION DE ELVIS!! LA MEJOR PARA MI EN ESTA PELICULA !!☺
Good Movies
