I remember IG-88 actually being a terrifying experience when I played this game as a kid. The way the N64 cutscreen just dumps you off into his "lair" and IG-88 flying all over the place. The creeping Wampa's were pretty bad too.
Disney did a forces of Destiny short with Princess Leia & Maz Kanata. It shows how Leia gets the the outfit and grenade she has at jabba's Palace in in episode 6.
That luke skywalker.....kill it with fire. The people look funny but im actually really impressed with how slick everything else in these animations look. Especially the ships. Pretty impressive for 96sh 97ish.
Agreed, I've never played the PC version before, I grew up with the N64 version and always loved how gritty it looked and felt. It's cool to see these FMV scenes and all, but it just sort of feels like every other late-90s PC game compared to the full experience I got on N64. PC version looks too bright.
The portrayal of IG-88 in this game is awesome. The voice is so perfect it's not even funny. This game is what got me interested in his character the most.
This was my favourite "expanded universe" in the Star Wars story. Shame that Disney scrapped it to "legends". But they can still use parts from it to make a great movie, like the parts with the bounty hunters fighting over Han Solo, and Dash Rendar, hired by Leia to try to locate and rescue Solo before he's being delivered to Jabba. "Bounty Hunters: A Star Wars Story"
I like how Dash Rendar and Han Solo both have YT series light freighters, but Dash has a newer version. The Falcon is a YT-1300, but the Outrider is a YT-2400.
I hated Xizor because he was working to remove Vader and take his place. It made destroying the Skyhook was his green bald head on board a whole lot more fun.
I had the N64 never seen these ones before. Brings back so many memories! I have been listening to the SOTE audiobook lately and it's a cracking story! There are a few discrepancies with the game but it's still good fun! :)
I remember that the mission to infiltrate the Imperial Ship containing whatever super Computer was also in the Game x-Wing Alliance. A damn shame that such connections no longer exist.
I only had the N64 version and only JUST NOW learned that there was a PC version with full animation and voices. I'd always wondered what IG-88 sounds like.
Why haven't they remade this game yet??? the N64 version was good but the PC version was freakin Awesome! I would love to play this on XBOX or Playstation consoles! We need to start a petition or a kickstarter for that to get done like ASAP!!!!
I agree, been a huge Star Wars fan for 20years, this game was awesome in 1996. still the best one out there today. Want to see this remastered on PS3. restore the game completely, make it look more detailed, see the characters interacting so it appears more lifelike, Droids talking to each other, IG-88 talking to Dash Render, additional space ships appearing in cut scenes giving the game more intrigue, as it appears like this. Prince Xixor talking to the Emperor and watching them unveiling the evil plans, etc. I'll gladly sign the petition with you.
in the end of the video, where rendar and luke are searching for the imperial computer, we can tight up some loose ends... is anyone of you remember of the game called "x-wing alliance"? there was a mission on the campaign were you were flying with luke and you were suppose to provide cover for rendar until he manage to steal the computer!! now everything make sense!! bless lucasarts plot!!
for a while I always thought boba fett died after the fight on the canyon planet. but now I know this takes place during the empire strikes back. I was just a child at the time. I played on the n64 so I just discovered these cut scenes. friggin' PC..
Its take place between The Empire strike back et return of the jedi, not during the 5 ;) it's a star wars 5.5 lol, the comics book is cool for this story
Well a lot of the designs were influenced by the special edition trilogy that this was part of the hype machine for. Which is why you can see Dash's ship in A New Hope.
Many thanks for uploading these great scenes. I have the game, but it will not run properly on my Windows Vista... I have a good graphics card. It plays the cut scenes fine, just not the game.. any advice ?
@TheHeroofShadows000 ...what are you playing? Because last time I checked Xbox 360s and PS3's had 2. I was saying that the lack of a second analogue stick makes this game hard to play in retrospect because we've become accustomed to 2.
@bellakazza true, although i believe that rogue squadron could have benefited from an ability to change controls plus a removing of the protection missions.
"It is indeed the same type of starship as Dash Rendar’s Outrider, but according to Rebels director Dave Filoni it’s not the Outsider itself." io9.gizmodo.com/uh-what-is-dash-rendars-outrider-doing-in-the-new-star-1783822515
I don't get why people get so worked up about the IG88 battle, it was one of the easiest boss battles in the game... Man, this game was great... Instead of dusting off my good old N64, I think I'll try to track down the PC version and watch these cutscenes the way it's meant to be!
@BogartPGT57 youre right they should def consider doing a remake of this game like the force unleashed, where you play as skywalker, boba fett (the bounty hunter fight) and dash rendar
Well figuring it's a N64 game from 12 years ago, it had pretty great graphics for the time. But I guess growing up on the xbox would make you think that...
20 years later I still cannot run this game on my PC; back in 1998 my $3000 Pentium I PC (Windows 95) only had a 16mb video card, now my $1000 Intel Core i7 (Windows 8) cannot run this game because it's a 64bit OS, lmao :P
@DrFritz714 that's because of the system. 64 mega bytes can't hold that much video so they had to scale it down to just still frames. that's on the n64, on the pc, they used full motion video or fmv. the n64 had the ultimate control but the pc had the best graphics and fmv to date. pc wins.
I definetely Loved the kinda comic style from the Cutscenes on the N64, but it was great to watch this cutscenes by that time as well =) Does anybody now if there's a Shadows of the Empire comic narrating all the events of this game?
You misunderstand, Lucasarts didn't DEVELOP these games, they published them, good Star Wars game will continue to be developed, there will just be less executive meddeling like there was with games like KOTOR II.
Humberto 3:16 its the version for pc with fully rendered cutscenes. the main distinction between n64 and pc were the cutscenes. on pc it is rendered and all dialog is spoken etc. on the n64 it is just sprites and text sliding around.
I remember IG-88 actually being a terrifying experience when I played this game as a kid. The way the N64 cutscreen just dumps you off into his "lair" and IG-88 flying all over the place. The creeping Wampa's were pretty bad too.
Right you didn't notice it at first but u could barely see him standing over you in the n65 with the added weird train crash junkyard
+austin lamonge ''n65''
Same.its also the N64`s graphic looks that made it more scary lol
GTOAviator also the awful song bad he makes when he walks but you don't see him
IG-88 gave me nightmares!!
Why did they put Luke on a swoop bike? It was kind of epic to have him standing hooded and cloaked in the wind.
I thought so, too.
+Dobbys Boggart In the comic, he's on a swoop.
In the novelization he joined in on the fight against the swoop gang.
After watching Rogue One I have high hopes of Disney making Shadows of the Empire movie. I vote for Tom Hardy as Dash Rendar.
This is no shit the best idea for the star wars franchise I've ever fucking heard
Money
No. They'd end up ruining it
Disney did a forces of Destiny short with Princess Leia & Maz Kanata. It shows how Leia gets the the outfit and grenade she has at jabba's Palace in in episode 6.
@@DanBen07 dash rendar?
That luke skywalker.....kill it with fire. The people look funny but im actually really impressed with how slick everything else in these animations look. Especially the ships. Pretty impressive for 96sh 97ish.
yeah i was going to say the same thing.
This wasnt the N64 version. If I’m not mistaken, someone made this for steam
@@jlistetson They're from the PC version, which released in 1997.
these graphics are aight and all, but I find it loses the dark atmosphere compared to the N64s cutscenes.
It doesn't help that the music the N64 uses for the cutscenes is fantastic
What console is this on?
+John b ps1 or pc i think
@@Dayman90 It is, but its always the same music
Agreed, I've never played the PC version before, I grew up with the N64 version and always loved how gritty it looked and felt. RIP John Cygan, you will always be Solidus and Dash Rendar to me.
So much atmosphere in this game. never saw these cutscenes. awesome! Although I love the simple 64 cutscenes
It's too bad that the PC version didn't have that cut scene featuring Han Solo.
"Bounty Hunters: A Star Wars Story"
wow, never knew there were actual cutscenes for the game. i've only played the N64 version and it just pictures & text/subtitles
It's for the Microsoft Windows version, released a year later.

“You will detain me no further!” Still gives me chills
That game was freaking hard, but so darn cool.
Be great if they made a film on it.
These cutscenes look very nice for 1997. I'd love to see a CGI animated film or series of Shadows of the Empire, kind of like the Clone Wars series
This was my first Star Wars game I played when I was a kid was how I got into Star Wars
Why haven't they remade this game yet??? the N64 version was good but the PC version was freakin Awesome! I would love to play this on XBOX or Playstation consoles! We need to start a petition or a kickstarter for that to get done like ASAP!!!!

How's that? Because of the PC cutscenes??? But everything else was pretty much the same as the N64...
When I was 7 all I wanted was Dash's Swoop bike.
THATS CANDOROS ORDO'S VOICE!!!
IG-88 was the most awesome Boss of any game ever. Rest in peace Lucas Arts. No more future Dash Rendar, X-Wing, or Jedi games.
I really appreciate how the animators for the cutscenes tried to recreate the N64 still-pictures when possible.
Dash Rendar has some huuuuge shoulder pads here. Definitely in the 90's.
That looks pretty slick for being released in 1997
in the end of the video, where rendar and luke are searching for the imperial computer, we can tight up some loose ends... is anyone of you remember of the game called "x-wing alliance"? there was a mission on the campaign were you were flying with luke and you were suppose to provide cover for rendar until he manage to steal the computer!! now everything make sense!! bless lucasarts plot!!
My absolute favorite non jedi character. I would do anything to play him in a movie.
2:09 lol, Dash's speeder goes THROUGH some of the snow
Nice catch!
for a while I always thought boba fett died after the fight on the canyon planet. but now I know this takes place during the empire strikes back. I was just a child at the time. I played on the n64 so I just discovered these cut scenes. friggin' PC..
Its take place between The Empire strike back et return of the jedi, not during the 5 ;) it's a star wars 5.5 lol, the comics book is cool for this story
the beginning is during empire strikes back, and the ending is directly before return of the jedi.
except the hoth mission but ok
The same guy who voiced Dash Rendar also voiced the dispatcher in Swat 3 and various other TV shows.
totally had this on PC in 1998 I think, absolutely loved it. The gameplay was very smooth, awesome :-)
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who had problems with IG88. Arguably the scariest boss of the game.
there was no hammy voice acting and the art work allowed more imagination, it felt more serious overall.
it's so weird seeing 3d cutscenes and voice acting.
For being an old game, you can really see how the designs in this video really influenced some of what was in the prequel Star Wars films.
Well a lot of the designs were influenced by the special edition trilogy that this was part of the hype machine for. Which is why you can see Dash's ship in A New Hope.
John Cygan is the VA of Dash, Canderous, Solidus Snake and even both Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader.
they should put this on GOG
+Patrick Mendoza its there now
That Boba Fett intro is disgustingly awesome.
Just played this yesterday on N64 for the first time in ages. No idea how we managed as a gaming civilisation without two analogue sticks =P
Many thanks for uploading these great scenes. I have the game, but it will not run properly on my Windows Vista... I have a good graphics card. It plays the cut scenes fine, just not the game.. any advice ?
Shadows of the Empire, a Star Wars game for the N64 and PC. These cutscenes are from the PC version.
I like how they added References to this game on the Star wars online game. Is dank like a crack life Mod
Thanks for uploading this my computer that can play the levels make the video cut in half that I can't watch them.
I remember the N64 train making a big explosion. Plus Ig-88 breaks all the rules of being an villain
Nothing makes me fanboy like the sound of a Corellian freighter's engines.
i need to beat this again cause i was too young to understand any of it back then
I love the look of the ship but I can't figure out what those bubbles outside the cockpit are for. They look weird.
cant wait for outrider in rebel season 3
"It is indeed the same type of starship as Dash Rendar’s Outrider, but according to Rebels director Dave Filoni it’s not the Outsider itself."
io9.gizmodo.com/uh-what-is-dash-rendars-outrider-doing-in-the-new-star-1783822515
TheHeronGuard shit..... because that well nice if they made him canon!
It's a Correlian YT-2400. The Millenium Falcon was a YT-1300.
I remember this game. And I remember not being able to play the PC version because my computer didn't have a video card. :(
Just keep track on where he's moving to and try to go behind the droid and then use the seeker.
OMG! What are these? Where did you find video cutscenes for Shadow of the Empire?
SOTE was truly a classic I could never let go on the N64. I'll never forget how much of a pain Hard difficulty was. Medium or Jedi was better.
Dude........... this is amazing!
I don't get why people get so worked up about the IG88 battle, it was one of the easiest boss battles in the game... Man, this game was great... Instead of dusting off my good old N64, I think I'll try to track down the PC version and watch these cutscenes the way it's meant to be!
is this on steam? i don't remember these cut scenes on n64!!!
What are you playing this on?
The imperial walkers were spotted on the north ridge, not the east ridge. Is it that hard to get in-universe continuity?
was this from the PC release??? I only played this on N64
dude i swear, Dash sounds just like candourus from knights of the old republic!
LOL
the guy who does Dash Rendars voice also voiced Canderous Ordo.
@guitarzane97 It's actually she-zor. I know, awfully hard to pronounce, as with a lot of other things in the Star Wars universe.
Wish granted. Disney's first act is to greenlight it, something Lucas swore never to do.
This is a small movie-clip or the other game ??
Holy fuck. These are incredible graphics for the time. Wow...
@BamesJonifer I like the art in the n64 cutscenes, better, but it's cool to see it all animated in the PC version.
This is better than the prequels lol
20 years later I still cannot run this game on my PC; back in 1998 my $3000 Pentium I PC (Windows 95) only had a 16mb video card, now my $1000 Intel Core i7 (Windows 8) cannot run this game because it's a 64bit OS, lmao :P
Dosbox/ win95 virtual machine
tomkelly00 I've tried various methods... can't seem to get it working still :( got a tutorial link somewhere? :P
Use PCGAMINGWIKI, Bo Yang.
When I first bought force commander I didn't know I needed a 3D card....... I finally got to play it 6 years later
The Steam version runs fine on my Windows 10.
WHERE IS THIS FROM? I've never heard of this... I used to play the game all the time.
@DrFritz714 that's because of the system. 64 mega bytes can't hold that much video so they had to scale it down to just still frames. that's on the n64, on the pc, they used full motion video or fmv. the n64 had the ultimate control but the pc had the best graphics and fmv to date. pc wins.
@Bertcrankshaw try digging around in the properties so that it runs as Windows XP service pack 3 or windows 98
the gameplay was the same as in the N64 version?
It's a solid book, I definately would reccomend it.
No, it was because of technical limitations, due to the N64 games being on cartridges.
Dash sounds like Canderous Ordo. Is it the same Voice Actor?
its sad the never make a movie of this.
I definetely Loved the kinda comic style from the Cutscenes on the N64, but it was great to watch this cutscenes by that time as well =)
Does anybody now if there's a Shadows of the Empire comic narrating all the events of this game?
haha if i remember correctly is it the one where you go inside the sewers?
@flaperise Maybe when we get older, we can get the skills, and make a decent movie of this game?
There's a comic book and also a novel. I've never seen the Comic book, but the novel is great!
When did they redo this?
i like the n64 version of the clips more
this is amazing
You misunderstand, Lucasarts didn't DEVELOP these games, they published them, good Star Wars game will continue to be developed, there will just be less executive meddeling like there was with games like KOTOR II.
Never saw any of these cutscenes. WTF
+arandomperson3 if you played on n64 the cutscenes were just sprites and text
Yep. That's what I had. Damn. I freakin missed out.
+Zhufor TheImpaler Yeah so what system is this one?
Humberto 3:16 its the version for pc with fully rendered cutscenes.
the main distinction between n64 and pc were the cutscenes.
on pc it is rendered and all dialog is spoken etc.
on the n64 it is just sprites and text sliding around.
Boba Fets a badass even if he's in a scene for 5 seconds.
What version is this??? Also how do I play it?
This looks like Star Wars the Clone Wars crossed with Reboot in terms of animation.
is Dash' cargo ship a correllian just like the Millenium Falcon?
is it wrong to admit that as a child I had nightmares that Ig88 and Boba Fett killed me
@able2ful1 Pretty graphics and hokey cut scenes are no match for a good controller in your hands.
Im sure that's why they had it image and text instead of cutscenes.
