When I was in Middle School I was absolutely horrified when my best friend confided in me that she had to go testify in Court; apparently there was a creep in Target going around taking up skirt videos of LITTLE GIRLS and Teenagers! My friend hadn’t noticed him doing it to her at the time but the security guards had seen him on the cameras doing it to multiple girls, and notified my friend that she had been one of them. He had done it to so many, and my poor 13 year old friend had to go to court as well as all of the other victims and testify, luckily he got several years in prison but I still feel terrible that so many girls had to endure that and face him in a courtroom on top of being victimized. That lady is a BAMF for protecting girls!!!

This reminds me of the time I was a Freshman in High School and was trying to find my "group" to hang with. One of the first I hung out with were these two guys who just so happened to be buddy buddy with the cop on campus. I didn't think anything of it and just thought "cool, now I won't get in trouble" - boy was I wrong. The cop was literally PAYING these two $20 each to take pictures up the skirts of high school girls. Not just that but he informed them of how to get into the girls changing bathroom without getting caught so they can take pictures of the girls going to the bathroom. He offered money to me and I was so weirded out that I just said "No thanks, I don't wanna do that". I didn't know what to do at the time. This cop was never caught doing this and his phone had several pictures up the skirts of several underage girls, not just that but girls in their changing rooms too (especially the cheerleaders which he bragged about). Years later a cop was accused of being a pedo rapist, I thought it was him, but it was just another cop he worked with. The cops forced the girl who made the accusations to change her story or else they'd make her life hell but said she needs to stick with the story regarding her teacher so they can pin everything on him.

This comes from people that just watch stuff on TV and have never been to the USA. You ask anyone and they say they'd rather deal with other countries authorities than those in the USA because "they look at black people as animals" that's how the USA looks like to us here.
My point here is that stuff we watch on TV and what we experience aren't far apart and maybe we should observe this more. Am not trying to dismiss anyone else's take on the matter or justify one. Am just giving my observations rather not my opinions.

Ultimately, bad management is what really kills companies. Lots of successful companies have had bad products. Apple has had numerous products that absolutely bombed. I can just imagine what MKBHD would have had to say about the Newton when it was launched, I doubt it would have been any kinder than his review of that AI pin. But Apple moved beyond those flops and improved their design concepts and focused more on making their systems excel at specific tasks, which is a result of good management. A company that is poorly managed will just keep pushing flop after flop after flop without ever trying to fix or even acknowledging the problems until they burn through their investors' money and shut down.

The new bill restricts citizens from serving on police review panels, with the exception of up to 7, chosen by the Sherriff, but restricts them to only being able to review Policy, not individual officer actions or performance.

I used to work in state government and part of my job was the federal reporting of deaths in police custody. This included deaths from police interactions and jail/prison data. When I say I was ZERO PERCENT surprised to hear Phil talk about them withholding information, I mean It. It was like PULLING TEETH to get death information, even from the coroners office. Half of the time, my data came from news articles I GOOGLED as whatever I was sent by law enforcement would either be inaccurate, (not even having the deceased correct name, sex, or age) or I wouldn’t receive anything at all. I’d expect better reporting from prisons as they have records of everything that happens within their walls but that wasn’t the case.

Love how the argument for police brutality leading to deaths is "It's ONLY 1,000 dead people vs the millions of police interactions over the last decade. Not a big deal." It's a 1,000 that we know of. The data in incomplete, because police departments are allowed to fudge the reports with no oversight other than themselves. I bet the numbers of way higher. If police departments had to be accountable for everything, weren't allowed to black out, falsify, or be extra vague in their reporting, actually got criminally punished for killing unarmed suspects, they'd get their shit together real quick. But there's no accountability, and there never will be without a complete overhaul of the system. The government is too lazy to bother doing that. Fuck the police.

I work as a 911 paramedic for the local county in Texas. Our county has a substantial population of citizens with mental heath issues and a State Supported Living Center. I have personally experienced an increase in Law Enforcement calling us out to a scene to "K-hole" a subject that they just don't want to deal with. The mentality is "If the medics sedate them, they become the medic's problem". I have walked up to scenes where the cops are not even kneeling on a prone subject and they are struggling for breath. They fail to recognize and understand that when you remove someone's ability to protect themselves, YOU are now responsible for it. If I showed such levels of negligence to one of my patients, my license would be pulled and I could never work as a paramedic again. Instead of accountability, the 'bad apples' get to resign and apply to the neighboring departments.
If you want to see how hard it is to breathe in a "Non-Lethal Prone Restraint position", lay flat on your stomach with your hands behind your back and your chin touching one one of your shoulders. It's not easy or sustainable for long.
Edit: I forgot to mention that the people in those situations have a massively increased oxygen demand due to the stress or physical activity before/during.

I tried it with no weight on my back/neck (tried different areas), with 1 friend on my back/neck, and with 2 friends doing the same(medium builds). I tried this to simulate the scenario as authentically as I could. This simulation does not account for different restrained persons' body weights, builds, drugs/inebriation status, and or any anxiety, fear, or any other type of panicking or claustrophobia. I had no problem breathing for up to ~30 minutes (I'm aware sometimes people are held longer than that, but my friends nor I had the time)
I suppose the point of writing this is to ask if you tried the same scenario yourself before writing this comment, and if you have, what type of variables did you have different than mine?

Thanks for covering that story about Law Enforcement Phil. I'm an officer myself. It's always disheartened to hear statistics like that, but also scary. I try to be the best, most prepared, safest, and kindest officer I can be every day I put on my badge.
But that doesn't stop the fact that I could easily be an officer contributing to those numbers. No matter how prepared or well trained I am, I know that whatever scenario i find myself in, I am going home at the end of the night, and I do the best I can to make sure that happens in a lawful way but, accidents and shitty coworkers who dont do what I do can get in the way. And there really is no fix for that. With how understaffed most agencies in the country are, bad cops come and go just as much (maybe even more) than the good ones.
Statistics never cover the whole story, especially with something as broad as policing (specifically in America). With how many guns are being cranked out daily, it's the Wild Wild West out here, and we're under equipt out the ass!
Alot of agencies were understaffed and under equipt before defunding the police bacame a thing, and now it's worse. Bottom line we need, reform, more funding, and more training if America wants these statistics to change. And even then, it will never be zero, like you said.

Thank you so much for discussing the less lethal force story.
I live on the west coast, and last year I experienced the worst manic episode of my life. It was so bad that I was in psychosis for almost three weeks. There was one point where I believed I was dead and I could not discern fiction from reality. A loved one called 911 because they did not know what to do and when the police showed up I immediately freaked out. I genuinely believed that the US government was out to get me so I kept saying “this is political suicide,” they heard “suicide” and decided to put me on a 72 hour hold. Two officers grabbed me and tried handcuffing me. I started screaming and then fell to the ground. One officer put me in one of those prone restraints. The officer put all of his weight into my back and pulled one of my arms far behind my back. There was so much weight on my back I started gasping for air and my arm was pulled back for far it felt like it was going to snap. I stopped fighting when I felt myself about to pass out from the loss of oxygen. I started crying and screaming because I didn’t know what was really happening. I ended up being covered in bruises and had a huge gash in my knee. Police are not properly trained to de-escalate most situations without using excessive force let alone a scenario with someone in crisis. I am so lucky that I was able to survive that interaction with police and the fact that I even have to say that sentence shows that the US needs police reform NOW.

Maybe it's not good if she believes would believe her, but at the very least it seems completely reasonable that she should need to provide evidence in order to get the police to act, right? @Bendylife I think his point is technically anyone can play in the NBA whereas WNBA is specifically women. Although I agree technicalities don't matter here since we've never seen a woman play in NBA history.

If local cops feel that they can't trust fbi, then they'll be less helpful. I think an oversight organization needs to be all civilian and not a participant in any other law enforcemt activities

It's an exponential curve and right now a miniscule amount of effort can save a lot of lives in this area of the investigation. Yeah eventually it would take more drastic and probably expensive measures to get the yearly deaths even lower, but we're not talking about having the best profit-to-effort ratio where we might stop when it's too much work to save a buck, we're talking about saving lives.
A lot of people in power forget that everyone is as much of a human as they are and instead think of them as statistics and I'll never understand how.

Yup, its as simple as this. You bring in a portion of what the company brings in, and the WNBA is not bringing in a ton of money. If people want WNBA stars to make more money, they should put their money where their mouth is, and support the WNBA by buying tickets. lol

@@shadycatz85 unfortunately you misunderstood what was said in the video. It was the NCAA final (college) that had higher viewership then male college finals (it also exceeded the NBA finals views to) in contrast the WNBA final didn’t exceed 800k. NCAA women’s basketball has been doing better in viewership by far compared to WNBA hence why recent athletes get more in Nil deals compared to WNBA wages. As Phil and others have said, Caitlin and Angel are some of the reasons viewership in NCAA games increased even further recently and are likely the push that will increase viewership in the WNBA which in turn would eventually increase wages if it continues going upwards. One problem is most standard packages don’t include WNBA games and this was due to low viewership so most companies pushed them into an obscure package. The statement of it makes no money because not enough watch is true for the WNBA, the new wave of athletes coming from college might be the catalyst to change that is the point of what Phil was saying.

    • @hirvale
      @hirvale 20 днів тому +5

@@shadycatz85 first off, that was the NCAA finals they were comparing, not the NBA or WNBA. Secondly, one moment of interest does not equate consistent viewership. Now, if the WNBA was to consistently keep those numbers up, the pay would rise to meet the demand. But for that you have to buy tickets and merchandise.

This feels relevant since story 1 is about a creepy upskirter. Has anyone else noticed that on shorts trending on UA-cam are channels that do nothing but creep shot women (I say women but a lot look like they are between 16 and 18) at beaches and water parks (so you know exclusively in bikinis). I bring this up to bring attention to these as they definitely qualify for harassment and gods know that if you dont complain about a violation it gets ignored

Really happy to see you cover police brutality. It's one of the most important issues in this country for me. It's not just the brutality. It's the way they overstep their authority every chance they get. The way they believe they have the right to demand ID from anybody, and have the right to escalate the situation if they don't get it, regardless of their legally required to give it or not. The way they will literally cause a high-speed chase over a minor traffic infraction, that leads to serious injury to the suspect, the officer, or innocent bystanders. And the absolute worst part, which I'm really glad you mentioned, is the fact that more often than not, they're cleared by their department because we let police departments investigate themselves for some goddamn reason

The first story is just depressing... It's so common that even I encountered a blog on tumblr within the past year that was entirely about creep shots of women being filmed/photographed without their consent. The only reason I even saw it in the first place is because they happened to tag one of their posts with "dresses", which is a tag I happen to follow because I enjoy fashion. Not scumbags who spy on women. I got them reported and taken down, but it really does feel like just a drop in the sea of sex offenders.

One comment on that cop story - sure 1000 deaths in 10 years is a very small fraction of police interactions, but there are also a lot of negative interactions that don't lead to death where the police either injure or just harass people.
