How does you friend Zack like being called "King Jigger".... 😂🤣😂 So, I use a hybrid of what you showed. I use a fixed hook like your first example, but then tie a trailer hook onto the fixed hook with with some +/- 80lb braid to have it hang back a couple inches similar to the third example, just fixed and not sliding. It tends to get fouled when jigging once in a while, but I seem to recall it did it before the trailer hook too. Hooking them is the easy part, getting them in the net is another thing....🐬
How long does the fishing stay good there? We got two hatchery fish 2 weeks ago but two blanks since then... Fishing evenings after work makes it more difficult because the wind kicks up.
I know Blake looked at the historical creel reports and graphed them. It showed that the kings caught here (in the salt) drops significantly (pretty much to zero) once you get past the first handful of days in September. Hard to say how much of this is lower effort in September and how much of it is fewer fish. I think it's a bit of both. This vid was last Sunday (8/29).
Baitcast/level wind vs spinning for jigging? I like having a line counter but if spinning is better for the drop, I may switch. Maybe adjust baitcaster so jig drops freely?
Good question. For what's worth it's a tiss up in my opinion. I go back and forth... I just really like the Abu Garcia Ambassador. Smooth jigging reel and def my most expensive reel! Ha ha.
hey blake its been along time since i seen one of your videos this one was awesome doulble hook up hey blake where is that place in the sound if you dont mind me asking and what time of the year were you fishing there thanks
Hey Carlos! Yeah, long time no see. (dang algorithm). I've been very active. Hope watch some others of mine too, sir! This is "big" Fish Trap out of Boston Harbor in Olympia. You can see it on a map on the other side of Zangle Cove. I think this was early Sept. But it's usually best mid-August. I like to fish it in the morning preferably on a slack tide.
@@WAFishQuest thanks Blake I now exactly where that place is i have been there along time ago when I was in the service I’m have to give it a this summer if Tacoma is slow I now there is a boat launch down there not to far where I get my boat serviced thanks again Blake keep up with the great video
Hey Bert! My standard ones are 2 ounce p-line minnows. I know sportco carries em. I think most jigs work though. Sometimes you might need a heavier jig if the tide is ripping or the fish are deeper. I have some 3-4 ouncers too.
hey the Moster Humblest! The little handheld is a cheap Sony Handycam. Like an old model. Pay about $120 for them. If you like that rustic look, I'd say just be sure it films in 1080p. My nice bow cam is a DJI Pocket 2, if you want to shell out the big bucks.
hey Jeff! It can, but in my opinion mooching is a better option. The Coho are so much more spread out in the water column, whereas the kings are usually hugging bottom.
I like a one piece light medium ugly stick. I think the key is not using too long a rod. I like a jigging rod with a firm back so it can take the strain of a king, but a sensitive tip to see the slightest strike. The ugly stick fits the bill for me at a reasonable price.
I usually do not. I find it attracts more dogfish and haven't observed an uptick in salmon strikes. When I do it's one dab right at the base, above the bottom hook. (I don't want to cove any shine of the lure).
@@WAFishQuest cool. I have yet to land a keeper via jigging. All residents or undersized. I did snag a juvenil3 shad outside desmoines marina last year lol
@@WAFishQuest finally was successful with jigging. Last weekend. I trolled for a bit until I saw a guy on powerboat jigging. He was catching and releasing fairly consistently. Only jig I had in my box was a 2.5 oz zinger (buzzbomb type) rigged it up with double hooks and got my limit of chinook. 12lber was the biggest. Luckily it was under 100 fow. Going back tomorrow, hopefully there's som coho in the mix
@@shingo_y great thanks..I have beach property in longbranch and am planning a trip this weekend over by Anderson Island or the east side of the mouth of the Nisqually ....am I on the right track for areas you think?...
@@truthfirst4249 I am going to channel my inner Blake (he's in sekiu at the moment). This is the tail end of the king season and just almost the start of coho. So it's a bit of a toss up regarding which to target. I have never had good luck out around Anderson, lyle point, green can, in front of tolmie... But all those areas catch kings and are worth trying. Of those I would maybe lean towards jigging the green can... But I'd expect to have a relaxing day on the water and any fish would be a bonus. And like I said, I am not good at fishing that area... So grain of salt and all that.
@@shingo_y ...sont rule out devils head for silvers when they come in...I slay them there in about 100' of water fishing at 30' on the downrigger...tight lines bro...good luck
Blake: “I’m really proud of my hookset to land ratio”.
Fish: “Oh really???”
Wouldn't luck have it? First fish I ever lost! And the last, I'm sure!
And I thought only the raspberry jelly filled donuts were lucky. You learn something new every day, lol.
man... maybe that was my problem!
Awesome vid Blake, good luck fishing this week!!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
thanks as always Capt Connor!
Thanks for the multiple setups you use
That was wild!
Really wish I hadn't chosen that morning to experiment. Oh well!
Wow cool double hook up!
thank Khan! it was pretty cool!
Fished this exact spot yesterday. That’s funny as all get out. Area 13 is our bread and butter.
hey love ur vids I was watching since 2014
super appreciate it Vance! that means a lot!
Great video
thank you, thank you!
Thumbs up Blake!
thanks a ton Mike!
Oh, so close to being a double! Didn't know you can jig for Kings!
yes sir, my favorite way to get em!
2 hooks slider set up, we don't lose fish because the trailer hook pins them pretty good every time, so hooking in one thing now lets land them fish.
Thanks Steve! Yeah, I need to redo this. I've moved to that setup myself, but only been using it a year.

that's a great suggestion! thanks for sharing, I'll have to give that a try!
Man, watching that double got my heart rate up! What a bummer yours got off...
thanks Bob! I'm just glad Shingo got his!
keep practicing. fun watch.
Thanks! Netting a double would be pretty cool. My setup was actually about the worst I could have used given the situation.
Nice vid, sorry to see that one get away!
thanks! easy come, easy go! glad Shingo got his!

Have you done a video on making your own lures?
I have not. Those actually came from my buddy Zack. Been many a year since I poured lead myself. Thanks!
What size/weight of jigs do you use..... Thinking about giving it a try this year.....

Nice work. How deep were you guys jigging?
thank you sir! I'm going to say 55. But could be off. We jig about 40-70 feet.
Is this jigging lures and technique works for Coho too?
hey Jeff! It can, but in my opinion mooching is a better option. The Coho are so much more spread out in the water column, whereas the kings are usually hugging bottom.

Are you bouncing off the bottom when jigging?
Great question! I like to be right off the bottom. Like a couple inches.

They were either homemade or a 2 oz green pline minnow. Those plines are my "confidence lure."

This is Boston Harbor (Olympia)
What area were you in...they shut down 11 for kings on the 25th from what I understand..
He might recorded this before 25th
This was MA13.
