  • Common rail diesel injection has revolutionized diesel performance. A key component of it's success has to do with rail pressure. Diesel Insights Host, Nick Preignitz of DuramaxTuner.com, explains why increased rail pressure is GOOD for your diesel.

    This is a few years after that I've found this vid and it's right.
    Higher rail pressure will give higher atomisation everywhere which increases power and cleanliness with almost 0 downsides. It also means an increase in the fuel injected with no other changes. The only thing rail pressure tuning doesn't really address is injection timing otherwise it's the main thing you can increase 10% without too many worries!

    the big issue with common rails is clean fuel. 2 micron, high efficiency (most filters are only 60%) with a boost pump pushing it through to negate fuel starvation. Cellulose filters are also good since they chemically bond and capture the moisture (both free and dissolved) from the diesel.

    I live in the mountains. I just traded my LLY for an LML. I'm loving it so far. Had EFI Live on my LLY but the LML is stock at this point. I was driving in the Hills today and a Cummins was ahead of me. He was rolling coal so bad I couldn't see him and he did it all the way up the hill at a constant speed. I can't imagine what his fuel economy is, but I'm sure it wasn't economical. He had a huge stack in the box.

    So I just did the Cat fuel filter adapter and now keep getting p0191 code fuel pressure sensor range/performance issue and p088 code. I pulled everything back apart and noticed that the check ball is touching a cross bar made into the adapter. I tried to alter the bar on the adapter so the ball would not touch and cause it to be open some. My question is should I cut the bar completely out or remove the check ball completely? Never had a issue until I put the cat adapter on.

    So on my deleted lml, tune 1 vs tune 5, would you say the fuel pressure is raised as part of the tuning for increased power like you said, up to 40k psi? Can more gain be made knowing this now? I use a very popular and respected company for tuning. I guess I'm asking, do you think this is somewhat common practice with lml tuning since it became available?

    • @jasonharrison25
      @jasonharrison25 5 років тому

      The tunes are almost always set up on the lml so that your base tune is the hot (level 5) tune the the lower ones just restrict max injected fueling. So no, pressure is not used to adjust between the tunes on the lml
      Previous versions could do this though

    so, you have another video out saying put in a fuel rail relief valve plug. which doesn't open at all because its solid. In this video you say crank up fuel rail pressure, but make sure you have a relief valve that will open when it needs to to protect the system. Do you make a after market relief valve that opens at higher pressure?

    • @Duramaxtuner
      @Duramaxtuner  4 роки тому

      The solid relief valve is for the 2001-2010 trucks, I believe Nick was referring to a 2011+ truck when he is discussing running up to 40K psi of rail pressure (which would require a relief valve). The 2011+ trucks relief valve is electronically controlled and seems to be much more reliable.

    • @Blackneck1994
      @Blackneck1994 6 років тому

      Blake, a common practice is to use an LBZ/LMM fuel pressure regulator on LB7/LLY CP3s. It allows the older pumps to output higher rail pressures (26k psi max). Tuning changes are needed with the newer regulator, but any reputable shop including Calibrated Power will be able to do that for you with EFI Live.

    How do you monitor the amount of smoke the engine is producing pre DPF filter to know if you are producing the same amount of soot after the tunes as the truck did in its stock form? That is my only concern about getting a tune for my emissions truck is that I don’t want the DPF clogged quicker then it does in the stock form.

    • @Duramaxtuner
      @Duramaxtuner  6 років тому

      Air Fuel Ratio is measurable on just about any emissions equipped truck. This and measured REGEN frequency along with soot accumulation rates let us know where is safe and what is trouble.

      The LMM has first generation emissions equipment so it is not going to perform as well as an LML. Also, I would consider doing a boost test to make sure we dont have a charged air leak causing higher soot accumulation.

    Hello! Great video. I have a 2007 LMM Duramax 2500HD (half year truck, 08 body style). Double checked my vin because I had hoped it was an LBZ.
    Currently have a turbo back delete kit and Anarchy Diesel Tuning Mercenary programmer on it. I have had the programmer on since 2015. Lately been getting code ECM P0193 when I try to accelerate really quickly. No other issues or codes. Researched the code which leads to fuel rail pressure sensor. The volts check good and fuel pressure is around 33,000 kPa at idle which converts to 4786 psi on google. Isn’t that extremely low? Is my scanner tool reading that pressure wrong? Wouldn’t it be doing really terribly if that was actual fuel psi? Could this also be because programmer is demanding more fuel and the stock fuel pressure sensor is flagging it?
    Looking to find permanent fix with same set up?
