      Thanks Robin. Glad you enjoyed it, we've really struggled to get a decent video as lot's of small days, wet days and windy days so hopeless for making a nice film but we had all these little clips and seemed a good idea to run them together. Hopefully the bean and pea drillings will live up to expectations this year and Sam and I can get back in the hide together and produce some good film. Lots of ideas in my head to get something a bit different but it's just a struggle seeing it through but we'll get there. Thanks for watching and supporting us, much appreciated.

      Thank Terry, appreciate you watching and the comments. Yes, you have to take the bad with the good...but is there a bad day shooting? Not really. That day with the 3 last week was my first day on a new spot and I've checked it a few times and it's been lifting with birds but there you have it!! Still had the build up and anticipation and it's a pleasure to get onto a new field, a big learning curve and it was a lovely spot with a fantastic view of the sun coming up over the North Yorks Moors. 3 was 3 better than a couple of weeks earlier when I had a 100 mile round trip to deal with a "lot" of pigeons at the request of a farmer and saw exactly nothing! Let's now see what tomorrow brings....forecast is snow and 40mph winds so could be fun!!

      Can't believe we have hit the Big Screen!! OK I know it's a TV but I'm still going to dine out on that one. I'll have to try it through our TV - what's the quality like? Really pleased you enjoyed this as we nearly didn't do it but had loads of little clips from small days and we knew we needed to get something to you all or we'd start to lose subscribers. I'm pleased it worked for you. Hopefully we will get a few good days on the beans but they did disappoint last year however we also have a few peas this time so a bit more opportunity. We just now need a day with a few birds so we can try new camera angles and the like. Keep watching and we do appreciate your comments. Thanks

      @@kyetodd6005 no, I think there's 3 there - one in a drainage ditch, one in the side of a wood and one up a hedge. To be fair not really had problems getting them to the deecs this winter but really lucky to have mainly small fields or fields with a wood in the middle or narrow strange shaped fields with lots of corners and bits sticking out so good to decoy. We have got a couple of difficult fields to sort and we are going to use the layout blind in the tramlines on those, just need to convert it from stubble to green camo

    A really good video robin do you prefer ff6 flappers over rotary machines I have a rotary but have noticed a lot of people now use flappers. Look forward to the next video all the best Carl. Sorry one last question I have never shot over drilled maize and on my shoot the farmer is drilling some for the first time is it worth a go

    • @RobertGriffinshootingTV
      @RobertGriffinshootingTV  5 років тому

      Thanks for the questions Carl. Right, well, Sam has been using the FF6 for a while now and he loves it BUT he generally uses it in conjunction with the Magnet. Last Sunday we were out and it was interesting, we had the deecs out, the flapper on and the Magnet off as we were building the hide and birds were decoying. We got set up, turned the Magnet on and everything then just turned away and wouldn't decoy. We then brought the Magnet in and just went with the Sillosocks and the FF6 and they decoyed again so in this instance the FF6 worked when the Magnet turned them away. Personally I always use a Magnet and I use mine with extension arms and I find those are deadly but the downside is that on a windy day they drain batteries. I've just got an FF6 and when we have a few birds my plan is to test Magnet alone, FF6 alone and FF6 with Magnet and see what works best on the same day given the same circumstances. FF6's are fantastic on Crows, that's the one test I have given mine so far and Magnets are useless on them. If the FF6 will perform as well as the Magnet on Pigeons I'll be delighted as transporting them is a doddle and battery consumption is low....they are a fantastic bit of kit and there's no Flapper on the market with the build quality and flexibility.
      Maize. Now I've never done any good at Pigeons on drilled Maize but fantastic for Rooks. That's not to say you won't shoot well on Maize as the availability of alternative food will be different with you. Now, here's the good news!! We shot our best bag last year on a Maize Stubble and we had three cracking days and then 3 mornings at the geese as a bonus. So keep an eye on it after harvest and even after that field is re-drilled as at our spot they were still pulling maize to the surface months after re-drilling. Here's a video from the Maize ua-cam.com/video/CQgmFRmtbUU/v-deo.html

      Thanks for the reply he is only drilling one field to give it a try so should get some shooting at some point. Are the sillosock good decoys all the best. Carl

    • @RobertGriffinshootingTV
      @RobertGriffinshootingTV  5 років тому

      @@carlwashbrooke8678 yes I rate the Sillosocks really highly. I changed to them in about October last year having previously just used some cheap shell's that I've used for years and re-painted annually. On Oilseed Rape the Sillosocks just stand out a but more, they have a good contrast and great movement. Proof of the pudding is on how the perform and I've found birds commit really well to them. Obviously light and easy to pack. I use 18 plus the Flapper or Magnet. I take 10 Dead Bird Cradles and get 10 dead birds on those ASAP. I start with a dead bird on the Flapper or 2 on the Magnet. Everything I take fits in an army Bergen. If I use a Flapper and no Magnet I have a dead bird on a bouncer Pole. I had a hell of a season at Geese over the Sillosocks, tremendous Goose Deec…..get 60 in my decoy bag and found them to be deadly which is why I thought I'd try the Pigeons. If you want to try any let me know as I flog the goose, pigeon and crow sillosocks, I've stopped selling the shell's I previously sold as I do believe you can't beat the sillosocks (in conjunction with Flapper/Magnet). Cheers, Robert...…...just shot 112 over them today on Oilseed Rape which is exceptional "up north"!

      @@carlwashbrooke8678 yes I had the website taken down about 6 weeks ago so we can rebuild it, the old site was just too dated and costing more to run than it generated. All our sales are done through our eBay Shop or direct. The Pigeon Sillosocks are £4.50 each and I have head ups and feeders. The Crows I have are the Velour ones (a bit like flocking) and they are a the same price, I've got head up and feeders in stock. I can do free postage and I might be able to discount slightly depending on quantity.

    • @RobertGriffinshootingTV
      @RobertGriffinshootingTV  5 років тому

      Thanks for watching Mark and thanks also for sending is a comment/question. Sam and I both use a Kicks Hy-Flyer Modified Choke. They do shoot very tight, when we patterned them up with Hull Superfast Pigeon they put just over 70% in a 30" circle at 40 yards which is closer to what you expect from a full choke. We've used those chokes in various guns for about 10 years and initially used them as they are designed to handle steel well and as we do a lot of wildfowling that's why we opted for Kicks. To be honest I shoot Rhino's in my Browning Over/Under and Sam has a Rhino in his 10 bore and they shoot very well. A lot of my friends use a Briley and get on well with those and they are more readily available and at a good price.

    I am a learner love the videos. Just wandering what size shot you use and chokes you use

    • @RobertGriffinshootingTV
      @RobertGriffinshootingTV  5 років тому

      Thanks for the question John. Sam and I both use Hull Superfast Pigeon which are a 29g load, felt wadded and size 6 shot. Chokes wise we use Kicks Hy-Flyer chokes in a modified constriction. I wouldn't get to worried about cartridges, there's lot's of people who will tell you that a certain shell is "rubbish" but in my opinion there are no bad shells just bad shots. You will find folks using a wide range of shells from 28g clay loads through to 36g heavy loads and all do the job. You will just find the lighter loads run out of striking energy at range and the heavy loads are hard on the shoulder and on the pocket!! I have had phases shooting shells at both extremes. I do like the Superfast Pigeon as the cycle the auto really smoothly, they are hard hitting, quick and a really good price. We did a bit of pattern and velocity testing with the Superfast Pigeon and the Kicks Choke and in a 30" circle at 40 yards we were averaging 197 pellets with a plaswad and 189 with fibres so basically putting about 70% into a 30" circle which is a devastating pattern. If you can't get the Superfast Pigeon then I'd say most 30g 6's will do the job, 32g 5's will just give you a bit more knockdown at range and if you are really price conscious and use some commonsense (keep range down below 35 yard) 28g 7.5 Trap loads will do. Hope that helps and all the best, Robert
