Okay, everything about that Ethiopian restaurant was so neat! And I loved the hand washing! Why don't more restaurants do that? You can tell she puts a lot of love and detail in everything. I don't know about the taste of the food, but in my opinion, it's the coolest restaurant as far as the look, the little presentation things, her attention to teaching you guys, the fact that her sweet mama sends her authentic spices, etc. Yeah, just very cool! By the way, it sort of sounded like you had a Bulletproof coffee with the butter and maybe it was MCT oil they put in it?
The District 6 museum is a MUST do for anyone traveling to Cape Town! I've been two different times and each time is a different, eye opening, gut wrenching experience. I highly highly recommend!
First time commenting though I'm powering through your old content-- there is an Ethiopian restaurant in Antioch, Nashville if you guys decide to stop traveling some reason, it is very tastey
the type of injera they use in Ethiopian cuisines is a lot different than the actual injera we eat. That's the thing i hated most when i first came to America. The actual injera actually tastes so good with all the sauces.
That's because Teff doesn't grow outside of Ethiopia so they improvise by using wheat or rice. Also, the government of Ethiopia has restricted the export of Teff as to not raise the price for the locals, which is a good thing. So, countries outside of Ethiopia have to improvise.
Jonte Ded Those Ethiopian restaurants are getting it from the owners who are bringing it from Ethiopia. It's the same here in the USA. The owners of the restaurants have families who travel back and forth bringing Teff out of the country. But, the reason why they use mostly wheat is because it's expensive and hard to work underground taking items out of the country.
Aksum አክሱም ፣ ንግሥት These restaurants in Sweden import it from exporters in Ethiopia, it’s not brought in through private travellers. Besides, the Ethiopian community in South Africa is waaay bigger, I’m sure they can import teff just as easily.
Jonte Ded: Is Dik Dik Wat an Ethiopian dish? Was there in the 70s' and ate this dish. Was made with chunks of elephant. Now I do this dish with chunks of beef. Just curious.
The Octopus card receipt was from HK, same with the food wrapper from a HK Taiwanese take-away and ur doorman in the coffee shop had a British accent! Great to see u upbeat an food vlogging again :)
I know this was from 4 years ago but I was in Cape town in 2018 and i’ve been to both the District 6 Museum and Truth Coffee. I still have my coffee beans from there ❤️❤️
Hahah you two have had sheltered food lives in Tennessee. I was surprised when you did not know what a Samosa was, back in Asia.. So happy you get to experience Ethiopian.. It's one of my favorites.
Ezrax10 I am Ghanaian and my grandma makes this lol this has ALWAYS been one of my favorite foods I'm begging her to make it sooooooon oh yeah by way of #2017 😉 lol we love Ethiopians so much my grandma named me after her Ethiopian friend
Dear Kara and Nate, Thanks a lot for your advices on finding cheap flights. We recently booked return tickets « Paris-Bangkok » in Business class for 940 euros!! Cheaper than an economy ticket at the same season. Great deal !!!
Flights operated by “Gulf Air” (nice airline). Only for few dates, ex: sept 3rd - sept 19th. You can check on the “Gulf Air” website. However, prices slightly increased since last week. We booked our tickets for august and the best fare is already gone!! Great Vlog again.
According to “Gulf Air” website, the promotion witch allowed to save up to 40% off the business class fare expired yesterday…. This airline used to propose very interesting promotion on business and economy class seats from Europe to Bangkok.
Ethiopian food definitely looks interesting. I couldn't get over how the bread looked like rolled medical gauze. I don't think that would be my cup of tea, but I loved getting to see it! Thank you for sharing it with us. :-)
You’ve only been to one area of SA. Try going to the Kruger National Park. Or Durbin SA. Some great places to see in SA and cheep flights with SA budget airlines. Anyway keep up the traveling!
Chappy Rao, to quote Nate, "Not my favorite food, but a fantastic experience, and I'd definitely eat it again." That's not a bad review, the way I heard it. They've been very adventurous eaters during these vlogs in 15 or so countries so far, eating tarantulas, snakes in Thailand, cow's blood and milk in Kenya, etc. I've heard many people don't like 100% of American food, including Americans, and to me, that's to be expected. We're all raised on different tastes.
I've wstched all your videos visiting Cape town.. We have a lovely country and I would reccomend you to visit The Panorama route and Kruger National Park. You van take a plane to Skukuza and take a shuttle to the Kruger or a private guide Trust me, you haven't seen South Africa if you haven't seen this part of our beautiful country I will even be your guide throughout the tour ! You need someone that know their way around Please come again!
Have you tried the coffee Kopi Luwak? The one the animal Asian Civet eats the beans and poops it? Supposed to be the most expensive coffee. Personally I wouldn't drink poop coffee or try half the foods you eat. I am way too afraid of food poisoning. Some of the places look sketchy.
Ethiopian food is amazing! Our favorite food by far. We lived in Ethiopia for two months and loved the country! When travel opens back up Ethiopia should be on your list to go to! Amazing country and wonderful people!
P.s the best place to have Ethiopian Food is in Ethiopia or Ethiopian household if you go to a restaurant anywhere else in the world even if they are ethiopian it is not authentic they do try there best but will not have everything they need a ingera which should be only 100% teff will be other stuff like rice...and such substituts..if you do wanna have ethiopian food and your not in ethiopia or dont know any ethiopian try to find a restaurant where the ethiopian community is BIG restaurant around there will be 10 times better because they are not there for toursits who cant tell difference they are there for real ethiopian who eat this 24/7 breakfast lunch and dinner..... In u. S.a best places or states are 1. Washington D.C , Atlanta, GA, Seattle, California, has a huge population of ethiopias over 100,000 mean over 30 ethiopian resturants.
i had ethiopian food as well and agreed on the taste of the bread.. its like a very thin sheet of an airy pancake with a taste of sour cream cheese and milk. .. the sides are my favorite of Ethiopian cuisine though... for African food, i prefer Moroccan food, the spices are better and plentiful.
I met a south african woman at a conference two years ago who was telling me that because I had textured hair, if my (white) parents had political enemies they could claim I was black and have me taken away. She told me about the "pencil test", which I couldn't pass (we tried). To be white, the pencil had to fall out of your hair. Apartied was really horrific for so many, and lasted way too long.
It's always sobering how other countries face their dark pasts, when here in this country we've got states passing laws to prevent schools from teaching about ours.
When i went to Ethiopian when i was 13, i got made fun of for "scooping" the ba wat like kara did at first. You are supposed to use all for of your fingers when scooping with your thumb. 😉
...those portion sizes are absurd....no offense alot of ethiopian restaurant skimp on certain customers portion sizes because they aren't ethiopian... i'd literally be pissed if they gave me that portion size. i honestly suggest going to a different spot than that one...
John King I’m Eritrean and I decided to check out this newer Ethiopian restaurant and the portions they gave us were huge. I was so surprised at this lol
That didn't look like good Ethiopian food, when I go to my local restaurant (in the Bay Area) they serve you a feast not those little circular servings, I Love It!
Okay, everything about that Ethiopian restaurant was so neat! And I loved the hand washing! Why don't more restaurants do that?

The District 6 museum is a MUST do for anyone traveling to Cape Town! I've been two different times and each time is a different, eye opening, gut wrenching experience. I highly highly recommend!
I love watching your travels - reminds me of my trips overseas - it sucks getting sick at times- looks like you survived well. Beautiful couple.
First time commenting though I'm powering through your old content-- there is an Ethiopian restaurant in Antioch, Nashville if you guys decide to stop traveling some reason, it is very tastey
The coffee bar was very Steampunk!!
the type of injera they use in Ethiopian cuisines is a lot different than the actual injera we eat. That's the thing i hated most when i first came to America. The actual injera actually tastes so good with all the sauces.
Dilbi Yoseph waaaaa
I went to that coffee shop in Cape Town too. Loved it!
I'm Ethiopian and I've never heard of rice injera before lol, must be something they invented down in south africa
That's because Teff doesn't grow outside of Ethiopia so they improvise by using wheat or rice. Also, the government of Ethiopia has restricted the export of Teff as to not raise the price for the locals, which is a good thing. So, countries outside of Ethiopia have to improvise.
Aksum አክሱም ፣ ንግሥት I live in Sweden where all Ethiopian restaurants offer Teff or Wheat Injera, but I had just never heard about rice Teff before.

Thanks for the correction - we had no clue! Hong Kong was a little more recent so that makes me feel better haha
Y’all are like the best travelers ever. I’m so picky, I would so scared to try different foods
I know this was from 4 years ago but I was in Cape town in 2018 and i’ve been to both the District 6 Museum and Truth Coffee. I still have my coffee beans from there ❤️❤️
Kara and nate , I'm super proud that your tryin our food I'm a huge fan .
I don't know if the name changed, but it's called bulletproof (here) and when I've seen people drink it, it's butter, coconut oil, and salt.
I love the look of that coffee bar!
Hahah you two have had sheltered food lives in Tennessee. I was surprised when you did not know what a Samosa was, back in Asia.. So happy you get to experience Ethiopian.. It's one of my favorites.
Thank you for looking at our history in South Africa

Love this. Your editing is on point - so good!

the injera is apost to have very light texure and not have a strong taste so that it doesn't intifear with the saucess flavor
Ethiopian food is AMAZING in the world

Dear Kara and Nate,
Thanks a lot for your advices on finding cheap flights. We recently booked return tickets « Paris-Bangkok » in Business class for 940 euros!! Cheaper than an economy ticket at the same season. Great deal !!!
+ali Awesome!!! Way to go! Where'd you find that deal? Slack Flight Deal notifications?

HOLY SMOKES! That is one great looking sandwich!! Is that ham, egg & cheese?? And the salad is pretty good looking too. Compliments to the chef!
You’ve only been to one area of SA. Try going to the Kruger National Park. Or Durbin SA. Some great places to see in SA and cheep flights with SA budget airlines. Anyway keep up the traveling!
Interesting food. Would have liked to try it. :) Fancy grilled sandwich looked yummy too.
Octopus Card - Hong Kong
Food wrapper - written in Chinese so could be HK, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, etc.
Easily my favorite cuisine! Doro Kitfo and the collard green dish are my favorite. :-)
I don't care what ya say Ethiopian food is amazing.
What food are you talking about?
Chappy Rao, to quote Nate, "Not my favorite food, but a fantastic experience, and I'd definitely eat it again." That's not a bad review, the way I heard it. The Octopus card is from Hong Kong, and the bag is showing Chinese, not Japanese. Great to watch all your old videos!
Love the videos
Just watched your van renovation video and now all I can think is “I wonder what state there pots and pans were at this point in there trip” lol

+agnostic femsom are they not part of the continent of Africa?
+Dylan Hemmings they are African
peachesandpoets i know, i was being sarcastic because the person i was replying to said they were Arabs not Africans.
Dylan Hemmings Oh haha my bad. :)
Borton Maverick you should go to Ethiopia yourself, that's where the Ethiopian food is flavorful and bomb :)
I remember the 'Whites and Colored Only' signs in Alabama back in the early '60s. As a white child who played with black kids, it didn't make sense.
I'd try it.
Yummy stuff, food and coffee! 🤓
how was test of this food ?
Awesome!! 👍👍😊

Kara could you please talk a bit louder when in restaurants in your future videos - in the beginning, you were talking so quietly
However great vid and thanks for showing off Cape Town :)
It's soggy bread it's frkn injera
You two are obsessed with coffee
It's always sobering how other countries face their dark pasts, when here in this country we've got states passing laws to prevent schools from teaching about ours.
Who is from Ethiopia and thinks that Enjera was The WOREST ?
Oh I didn't even notice wth it's so pale
Zaim Meh yyy
Kidy Kassa enjera is if you know amazing food

The coffee bar is more of a museum than the apatheid museum :v
Watching in 2021

Heard Bad things about Ethiopian food? That's unheard of
1994 Nate was right
Teinekyou
👍👍👍👍👍
kkkk
Did you guys just hear about Apartheid?
The guy kinda looks like Andrew Lowe
Nate seems a little grumpy in the last couple of vlogs.
A*W*Esome .....i eat this everyday....its the original version of "mexican"
Hard to hear Kara speak up more and get a directional mike
They do get a directional mike at some point later on.
Am I the only person who thinks you Really look like Dani Daniels!!!
nate, did anyone tell you that you look like Cristiano Ronaldo?
all the time!
Apartheid = a-par-t-aide Not a-par-tide ;-)
That didn't look like good Ethiopian food, when I go to my local restaurant (in the Bay Area) they serve you a feast not those little circular servings, I Love It!
Ethiopian food rocks. You just don’t know what good food tastes. Thx
