      Remember when the woman who held death asked to hear the end. She said she'd take the story to the grave. So did a man who was on death role.

    Thank you for posting this, I have listened to the entire series. Frank Muller did the first 4, then was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident. George Goodall did the last 3 and is just as good. Listening again, as it's still as captivating as it was 12-14yrs ago when I first listened. Awesome!!! 😃

      Christ, that's why he didn't do the rest? I thought I heard the publisher contracted with someone else. God. Loved Frank. That's terrible.

    Can I start this before I’ve even got through the gunslinger ? Does the book stand up by itself ?

      @Seanthehorrornerd 7 місяців тому +7

      Why would you do that? The gunslinger is an awesome book and the drawing of the three is even better..start from the begining and enjoy the full journey

      Definitely need to start from book 1 gunslinger I mean you could read this it's an awesome story but they are very heavily intertwined so yeah start from book one

      I mean, in the first ten minutes King gives a whole summary of the story to this point. You miss a lot of characterization, but you get the essential players and plot beats.

    • @eddieboncek2447
      @eddieboncek2447 5 місяців тому +3

      No, you'd need to listen to it to understand certain character dynamics. Personally it took me 3 times to get through the Gunslinger, I thought it was kinda boring, it's sorta like a book long introduction, but tough it out, the rest of the series, for the most part, is AMAZING. Like I said, tough it out, you will be VERY GLAD that you did!

      I miss Frank Mullers voice, and was really upset when they switched over to George Guidell halfway through the series, but then learned it was because Muller was in a coma from a motorcycle accident that he would ultimately die from😢 I felt HORRIBLE being mad. Muller wad literally the gold standard of audio books. He did Moby Dick, other King books, John Grisham, Dean Koontz, Shakespeare and many more, well over 200. Don't get me wrong, Guidall is great, I mean GREAT was well, but I fell In love with these characters through Muller voice, so when Guidalls voice was what I heard starting with book 4 I believe, none of the characters, besides Roland, Guidell does him REALLY WELL, sounded like THEM to me and it took me at least half the book to forget I was listening to a new narrators voice and was able to enjoy the series again!

      It's bad, that's for sure. King preceded that item in a list with "pimps and whores". At a minimum it means a guy seeking a woman for sex, probably a prostitute. At worst it means a pedophile. Context clues, brother.

      This is but one book in the dark tower series which is king's Magnum opus. For the constant reader this series is the reward for being a constant reader of kings books. The way this series brings together the rest of his work is beyond brilliant. Characters events and the mysteries of his other books are enhanced and events crossover and mysteries you didn't fully understand are finally revealed through this series and the way king is also a pivotal character within the heart of the story is something I've never seen any other author come close to replicating.
