So now that the air 3 came out I’m really struggling to decide between mavic 3 pro and Air 3 . I’ve watched your review of Air 3 ! (Great vid ) I think as a photographer its definitely difficult to buy something without aperture control . I want to buy a drone to use in the Philippines 🇵🇭 for my UA-cam channel ! And where I want to fly (Highlands of Cebu ) definitively has fog and lightning changes ! So wow I’m really having difficulty choosing. Thx 🙏
@@JakeSloan yes I watch it I guess my heart as a trained photographer says aperture control is very important. I think I just need to pull the trigger ! I really appreciate your response ! Thx 🙏 I really love your content glad I found your channel !
Which drone do you recommend primarily for still photography? Mavic Air 3 or Mavic 3 Pro? Do these drones have the exact same 70mm lens? I live in the EU area, but I don't believe I'll be flying near people very much.
Great video, thank you. Yea, I'll be purchasing one within a month, to get ahead of the possible ban in the US. Question: I want to do a lot of kayaking over lakes and rivers. Is there an accessory to get this to float, in case of catastrophic failure?.
@@JakeSloan Excellent idea. Thanks. I'll experiment with the Float Bag accessory that can be used with the Oru Kayak. I'll be getting that kayak in a week. Their float bag may be too big for this use, but I suppose I could roll and tape up the bag to make it a practical size. Air inflatable, of some sort, would make sense for this, in order to make it more practical for traveling. 👍
so go make one then... IMO 60fps is great for games, it's not something I ever film in unless I am going to slow things down. I have never been asked to film in 60fps for any production, tv show or movie I have worked.
@@JakeSloan I'm the content consumer, here. My comment was not intended to be disrespectful, but to engage on something I found was a drawback in your review. Why not 60 fps, since the drone is capable? I looked this review up to see what the product is capable of. But yeah, if making reviews of drones was my job, I would take feedback such as this as constructive, instead of insulting one of my viewers.
Ahh... here we go... this will be interesting, especially based on your preview comments. As expected your footage is fookin amaaaaazing. I agree some d Firmware refinement and fixes are in order, but happily, we START with the 10 rounds of fixes since November 2021 Mavic 3 release. So. That pain is in the past, at least. SkyHighFilms kept saying "this is the one they should have released first" - I disagree, since all (most) of the growing pain is in the past at least. We are all having fun with the 3x, brilliant tight focus, backgrounds whizzing past. But your critiques are spot on, Jake. Let's see if DJI is listening. If they can offer sharpening control on Mini 3, they certainly can here.
If you don't have it, can you get the 15.5mm equivalent Wide Angle Lens, and provide your thoughts? I have it (because 4 is one better than 3? Lol) and IT works in Hyperlapse and Active Track. I am experimenting with it, but a struggling to get the most from it. A pro perspective would be good (see what I did there?) Of course you have to land it to use it, but 3 out of 4 aint bad.
Jake, Another great video. The technical content was well on par but I was still drawn to the beautiful shots of the Alaskan landscape. Thanks for sharing.
I'll see what I can do, in most cases it really won't make a difference but in a few cases you'd see a difference. mostly you would see it in the details and how far you can push a color grade.
Great review! First I've heard of that gimbal problem. I'm curious about your thoughts about the non-removable 1TB SSD. I understand why a large drive with a fast write speed is required for the ProRes codec, but why didn't they just go with a removable CFExpress card? How badly is your workflow impeded on set when you have to download footage? Is it problematic enough to make you want to use lower bitrate codecs and the micro SD card?
for me I now shoot pretty much only in prores HQ or LT and have been for the past year so I dont find it a big deal. I wish they were able to make it removable but I also understand that the hardware to do that would have added significant enough weight to affect flight time.
Nice review. Well done again Jake. The only thing that stops Me from buying Mavic 3 Pro is the C1 My Mavic 3 has. Maybe when the bought money that it costed are covered, to Buy mavic 3 Pro and have as backup my old Mavic 3.
Jake, if okay, more newbie questions for you. BTW, I do appreciate the guidance from you. Thanks in advance. The Apple Pro Res video from the camera. Do I need Final Cut Pro and the required Mac laptop to run it? I own Windows laptops and I'm wondering about the editing setup that I can use with the Pro Res video from this drone.
If you edit with adobe premier then you can film in pro res and edit no problem but if you use another editor like deviance resolve then just film in h265
Jake, I just joined your channel. I'll be going through lots of your videos on the Mavic 3 Pro. I'm learning as much as possible before ordering what I would like with this camera. If I may, a question for you. If I'm on a lake for a while and I start getting concerned about the drone battery, how easy would it be to fly it back to the kayak for a safe landing so I can replace the battery? Or would I need to drive back to shore?
you can do that, I do it a lot from my kayak, BUT you should practice hand launching and hand catching on dry ground a BUNCH first to get comfortable with it!!
@@JakeSloan Thanks for the reply. I will practice catching it and launching from my hands. In addition, I think I will also implement a floaty setup for the camera as well.
How do you chose , know or seitch camera you be using during the flight? Any recommendation on drone with friendly user joystick to film in my outside painting house business? Peace
I use Final Cut Pro, for most people there is no reason to get the cine version. I got it because I do work on TV shows etc that they do specifically request pro-res footage. The biggest benefit of it is a much higher bit rate so you will see more details in things like grass, tree leaves, gravel etc
Here's a question... Do you think this is the last and greatest version of the Mavic 3 before the Mavic 4 series. If so, it makes sense to buy this one to use with your RC Pro. As I assume a Mavic 4 would use 04 transmission and render my RC Pro useless. Thoughts?
I think this is it till the mavic 4 (or whatever the next generation of this drone will be). I do think there will be some great firmware updates coming for this one down the line though
If you do a mix of commercial and privat work would you say the Mavic 3 Classic is enough? As prices now for second hand Mavic 3 pros go down… Or should I pick up the 3 Pro?
I bought the M3 Cine just a couple months before this was announced 😂Horrible timing. I love the drone though. It is soooo much more confidence inspiring than my Mavic 2 Pro. I especially love the battery life. I can set up a multi-point hyperlapse and still have time to shoot it on the same battery. I LOVE this thing.
Which one gives the best image quality and in terms of color grading? The cine having the possibility to record in pro res HQ, or the pro, despite it can’t. Thank you!
Jake: If you give this drone the stamp of approval, that is good enough for me! DJI: Give Jake some drones! PS. Congrats on almost 100K subs. Great work!!! 😀
@@JakeSloan Got it. Makes sense. DJI needs to come up with a new version of the drone with a 4th camera. Another 24 mm camera, spaced the right distance from the other at the drone. Then, transmit both video feeds back to the two 1080 screens at the goggle. 3D flying without a pilots icense. 👍
Well, honestly speaking, DJI could have done EU version (under 899 g) as the done previously for Japan with Mini - just lighter battery version. Unfortunately EU market is not what they focus on.
I think you might have slightly better luck with the Rc pro but due to transmission power limits in Britain and the EU your signal strength will always be much less than North America
Great review and sounds like an awesome drone. The 3x camera feels a bit like a gamechanger when paired with good tracking. I photograph dogs all the time and wondered if it would track a dog properly? Also, how is the noise. I wouldn't want to frighten a furry subject!
The noise isnt bad from the distance you would want to be using the 3x camera, tracking is good but a dog could definitely run around fast enough to get out of frame
Well I hope your son did not have his good shoes on in that water dad😂. I primarily take photos with my Air2S and still love this drone. I am on the fence on what to upgrade to as DJI seem to release Drone like they are going out of fashion. I do want to upgrade and like the option of the zoom,as I can shot from a field without bothering people in Scotland. I would really like your opinion on what to buy from the DJI range just now for photography?
Hello. Thank you very much for this detailed review. I am binge-watching videos about the Mavic 3 Pro and think this is a fantastic drone. BTW: Very good research about the EU guidelines. I am currently making the A2 drone license in Germany because of this drone! It's true. The guidelines we have to keep in mind are many. But I think this beast of a drone will bring an upgrade for my videos. Greetings from Germany

I would not upgrade, you already have the best of the Mavic 3 that main camera. If you really want the telephone lens then consider the air 3? I have a video comparison here: ua-cam.com/video/F4gdafCgcgE/v-deo.html

Always great content.. every time I see that big triple camera I think how awesome it would’ve been to just put an integrated version of the X7 super 35 with a 24-70 optical zoom.. now that would’ve been pro.. but ah well. We can dream.. Mavic 4 Pro haha
Main camera er amazing, 2 one is fine, The 3 camera is really bad, very muddy and lots of noise in low light. But it´s better to have than not.. and you have to shoot in log for 10bit, normal HECV is 8bit witch is really stupid.
Nice review Jake! I've been considering the Pro, but the lag of a proper DLOG profile on the 3x camera was holding me back. How easy or difficult did you find it to match DLOG and DLOG-M footage?
The thing I hate the most is the inability to turn off the landing protection (bottom sensors) for hand catching. Often launching from sand, rocks, mud, on boats etc and hand catching is essential. The way it tries to dodge your hand is idiotic and dangerous. Mavic 2 Pro had an option to turn these sensors off. This one feature irks me because it's meant to be a drone for pros and also for travelling.
I have this drone and the hand catching is surprisingly smooth. Put your hand out and then lower the drone down and it’s easily caught. I also have the mini pro 3 and that is much tricky to hand catch (it’s more likely to try and avoid your hand) I think.
I always hand catch from the front since the landing protection sensors are on the back of the drone they don't get tripped by my hand when I catch it from just under the gimbal
Why not mention how the new bag is built extremely cheap. The Mavic three pro combo shoulder bag doesn’t even fit all the accessories. the convertible that came with a mavic3 was much nicer . The screen on the controller is smaller than my crappy little iPhone 11. I have not taken it out yet, but I am very disappointed so far
@@JakeSloan well, it’s called a review on the DJI pro. Maybe add that you use your own bag because DJI’s bag is crap. Can’t fit the combo in it. it’s thin with very little protection. It’s your review though.
DJI...PLEASE give the Mavic 3 Pro,....noise reduction....control! DJI,...you guys are using HEAVY amounts of noise reduction. As you know, once you bake that in, the artifacts can NEVER be removed. Once you throw away resolution and bake in a waxy, soupy look, there is no way to get that out. (other then add noise/grain back into the shot) PLEASE just give us a simple "low", "medium" and "default" setting and make the "low", really low...pretty please?
Newbie update: I have decided to purchase the Air 3 Fly More combo instead of the Mavic 3 Pro. A few reasons: 1 - It's my first drone. So, a cheaper version to learn the trade. Also, with the 3x optical 70 mm camera and additional digital zoom, as well as 4K video capture, it will be good enough for kayaking and other fun stuff. 2 - Rumors of a future Mavic 4 drone in develoment. So, if that drone comes out before any US ban, and if it has the right worthwhile feature, like 8K video, then I may upgrade to that.

I live in the EU area, but I don't believe I'll be flying near people very much.
for still photo work definitely the mavic 3 classic or mavic 3 pro, the photos from it are far superior to the air 3
Thanks. I just ordered Mavic 3 Pro 😁@@JakeSloan
Great video, thank you.
Yea, I'll be purchasing one within a month, to get ahead of the possible ban in the US.
Question: I want to do a lot of kayaking over lakes and rivers. Is there an accessory to get this to float, in case of catastrophic failure?.
there is an option out there that has a small inflatable ballon that you can attach but I have never used it
@@JakeSloan Excellent idea. 👍
Need a 60 fps review so we can see what the Mavic 3 Pro is capable of. This video is all 30 fps.
so go make one then...

I agree some d
Firmware refinement and fixes are in order, but happily, we START with the 10 rounds of fixes since November 2021 Mavic 3 release.
Thank you! I hope this was worth the wait for you lol
I have one on the way!
love your videos and your knowledge , cheers from thailand ❤❤❤
Glad you like them!
Jake, Another great video. The technical content was well on par but I was still drawn to the beautiful shots of the Alaskan landscape. Thanks for sharing.
thanks!
Wonderful review. I always appreciate your content, Jake. Cheers from Wisconsin.
Thanks!
I would love to see an example of a situation in color grading when ProRes makes a difference.
Thanks! the lack of C1 is a bummer for sure
@@JakeSloan I'll use Adobe Premiere Pro then. Thanks. 👍
É sonho a oportunidade de filmar 🎥 📷 lugares como esse 🏔️. Sensacional 🙀, parabéns pelo vídeo 👏👏👍
Thank you!
I'm not a fan of DJI's geofencing but I still like seeing your reviews since their tech is pretty cool
agreed on the geo fencing!!
Is the extra zoom camera worth the money over the air 3 with 3x optical zoom?
no I dont think so but the much better sensor on the main camera might be if you do a lot of photography
How do you chose , know or seitch camera you be using during the flight? Any recommendation on drone with friendly user joystick to film in my outside painting house business? Peace
I would look into the air 3 or mini 4 pro for what you describe but it will still need some user input
@@JakeSloan many thanks jake!
Best regards from Norway
Do you find that the main camera is better on the Mavic 3 pro compared to the original Mavic 3 original or they the same quantity?
they are the same quality
Wow that place at the beginning is amazing! Where is that?
That’s all around Whittier Alaska.
What editing software do you use? What is the benefit 10Res and ProRes in the Cine version?
I use Final Cut Pro, for most people there is no reason to get the cine version. I got it because I do work on TV shows etc that they do specifically request pro-res footage. The biggest benefit of it is a much higher bit rate so you will see more details in things like grass, tree leaves, gravel etc
Default sharpening was so much better bro
I disagree but everyone has their own preferences
Hi Jake - wonderful video!! Can you tell me the brand and model of your drone bag? Thanks!
I use the think tank mind shift 26L backpack
@@JakeSloan Thanks Jake!
Great review again. Just solidifies my thoughts to make the jump.
thanks!
Nice Vid! What backpack are you using with the Mavic 3 Pro?
thats the think tank Mindshift 26L
Can you please make a video for dji mavic 3 pro settings for cinematic video capture
I have one on my channel!
@@JakeSloan thank you
Great video and amazing drone flight so fabulous❤❤❤
Many thanks!!

Thanks for the honest review Jake

If you do a mix of commercial and privat work would you say the Mavic 3 Classic is enough? As prices now for second hand Mavic 3 pros go down… Or should I pick up the 3 Pro?
yes the classic is a fantastic drone and will do well for a mix of work easily
@@JakeSloan So I guess in europe with our rules its the better choice…
I bought the M3 Cine just a couple months before this was announced 😂Horrible timing. I love the drone though. It is soooo much more confidence inspiring than my Mavic 2 Pro. I especially love the battery life. I can set up a multi-point hyperlapse and still have time to shoot it on the same battery. I LOVE this thing.
mavic 3 cine is still amazing, I still have mine and use it often!
Which one gives the best image quality and in terms of color grading? The cine having the possibility to record in pro res HQ, or the pro, despite it can’t. Thank you!
Hey man question, how is your book bag in this video you’re using?
Fantastic. I did a whole video about it here: ua-cam.com/video/IfgZ0wNsMt0/v-deo.htmlsi=qrgbqRar8MmCZtmR
Jake: If you give this drone the stamp of approval, that is good enough for me! DJI: Give Jake some drones! PS. Congrats on almost 100K subs. Great work!!! 😀
Thank you so much!
Regarding the camera gimbal hitting the body when rotating the drone, wouldn't adjusting the Gain and Expo settings alleviate this issue??
some possibly but no matter how I have adjusted it I still get the issue occasionally
Jake, is the DJI goggle accessory a VR headset? For 3D like?
no not 3d just for viewing the same view you get on the controller
@@JakeSloan Got it. Makes sense. DJI needs to come up with a new version of the drone with a 4th camera. Another 24 mm camera, spaced the right distance from the other at the drone. Then, transmit both video feeds back to the two 1080 screens at the goggle. 3D flying without a pilots icense. 👍
Well, honestly speaking, DJI could have done EU version (under 899 g) as the done previously for Japan with Mini - just lighter battery version.
Unfortunately EU market is not what they focus on.
they could have yes I dont really understand why they didn't
Hi do you think this drone is user friendly for newbie??
I think the mini 4 pro or air 3 is a better beginner drone
Does active track work well with snowboarding?
thats a pretty challenging environment for it to track with but it should work ok, I would probably get the air 3 over this for that though
Where did you get your Mavic 3 Pro bookbag?
I use the ThinkTank MindShift 26L backpack and it's fantastic, you can check it out here: geni.us/qY2LJ (affiliate link)
Hi Jake
Hi Ken...
You’ll have to teach me how to color grade 1 day
I do have some videos on it but I will have more coming as well
Excellent review Jake!
Glad you enjoyed it
In the UK the RC signal strength is absolutely horrendous
I think you might have slightly better luck with the Rc pro but due to transmission power limits in Britain and the EU your signal strength will always be much less than North America
Great review and sounds like an awesome drone. The 3x camera feels a bit like a gamechanger when paired with good tracking.
I photograph dogs all the time and wondered if it would track a dog properly? Also, how is the noise. I wouldn't want to frighten a furry subject!
The noise isnt bad from the distance you would want to be using the 3x camera, tracking is good but a dog could definitely run around fast enough to get out of frame
What software do you edit your footage on jake?
I edit with Final Cut Pro
but the 422 10 bit only for Mavic 3 pro cine, mavic 3 pro only have 420 10 bit for Dlog
yes that is true
Outstanding!
Thank you sir!
Good review Jake.
Thanks!
Mint video
Thanks
Well I hope your son did not have his good shoes on in that water dad😂. I primarily take photos with my Air2S and still love this drone. I am on the fence on what to upgrade to as DJI seem to release Drone like they are going out of fashion. I do want to upgrade and like the option of the zoom,as I can shot from a field without bothering people in Scotland. I would really like your opinion on what to buy from the DJI range just now for photography?
I'd wait just a bit to upgrade, rumor has it a new Air 3 is on the horizon and it might fit your needs just right
@@JakeSloan Yeah the Leak actually stopped me purchasing. I do wish DJI would stop outdoing themselves though 😞
I agree!!
argh..i got hit by that statement...i'm just a hobbyist and when i bought the mavic 3 classic in a just a couple of months or 3...the mavic 3 pro arrive....what would recommend me to do? i have a mini 3 pro and planning to swap my mavic 3 classic and mini 3 pro plus cash ..to a brand new mavic 3 pro...
but as i understand in your statement...if your a regular guy having a mavic 3 classic...it is not a good upgrade..
I would not upgrade, you already have the best of the Mavic 3 that main camera. If you really want the telephone lens then consider the air 3? I have a video comparison here: ua-cam.com/video/F4gdafCgcgE/v-deo.html
@@JakeSloan yup..saw it sir...i guess i have to upgrade from mavic 3 classic to mavic 3 pro ...its not just the 70mm ..its also because of the 160mm lense
@@JakeSloan you mean sir the main camera of the mavic 3 classic is better than the mavic 3 pro? i thought they were the same
I got a mavic air 1, should i upgrade?
It wouod be a massive upgrade. Also consider the Air 3.
@@JakeSloan I watched some youtube videos, the air 3 has better flying, i believe more antenas, faster etc. but the mavic pro has a way better camera quality. Wich should i go with? Wich would you go with?
Man, what I wouldnt do to own a Mavic 3 hahah....Great review Jake!
some day Matty some day!
Always great content.. every time I see that big triple camera I think how awesome it would’ve been to just put an integrated version of the X7 super 35 with a 24-70 optical zoom.. now that would’ve been pro.. but ah well. We can dream.. Mavic 4 Pro haha
oh for sure!
I really want this thing
definitely consider it if it's in your budget
The EU thing sucks! I would wish for a mavic style drone where you can replace the lens, so you have the main camera allways!
agreed!
Main camera er amazing, 2 one is fine, The 3 camera is really bad, very muddy and lots of noise in low light. But it´s better to have than not.. and you have to shoot in log for 10bit, normal HECV is 8bit witch is really stupid.
True
How far can you track and follow subject? 50/100/150 ft?
with the 3x depending on the subject 50-100ft away easily
@@JakeSloan thanks 👍
Still blows my mind that something capable of these shots can fit in a backpack
I agree!! Originally that was going to be my whole opener “how this fits in a backpack but is capable of incredible variety of shots”
I love ❤it I own a mavic 3
nice
Lovely children you have Jake. Thnks!
Thank you!
Nice review Jake! I've been considering the Pro, but the lag of a proper DLOG profile on the 3x camera was holding me back.
How easy or difficult did you find it to match DLOG and DLOG-M footage?
I found it fairly easy once I figured out there is a couple hundred kelvin temp difference between the cameras
5:58 perfecto
Thank you!
I find if I lower it to just above head height, it just takes a quick grab to hand catch and wrestle into submission.
Nike one Jake.
(so far that is, I am only 2 minutes in!)
Thanks!
You looks like " Chetan Bhagat " , Indian Author.
hahahahaha thanks
I have a mini 4 pro
great drone!
Meanwhile in Canada, where you can fly almost nowhere :/
yeah Canada's drone laws are way extreme and getting a commercial drone license from the CAA is crazy difficult!
Why not mention how the new bag is built extremely cheap. The Mavic three pro combo shoulder bag doesn’t even fit all the accessories. the convertible that came with a mavic3 was much nicer . The screen on the controller is smaller than my crappy little iPhone 11. I have not taken it out yet, but I am very disappointed so far
because I have never used the bag... I always keep my drone in my camera bag which you can see in my latest video
(other then add noise/grain back into the shot) PLEASE just give us a simple "low", "medium" and "default" setting and make the "low", really low...pretty please?
agreed
Newbie update: I have decided to purchase the Air 3 Fly More combo instead of the Mavic 3 Pro.
A few reasons:
1 - It's my first drone.
I think this is an excellent plan!!
