As someone with Celiac’s i have a ton of anxiety when traveling. WDW is the one place on earth where I don’t need to be nervous for even a second about getting sick (or just finding food period). Honestly some of the best service i’ve had was counter service! So many counter service locations have an allergy chef specifically!

Especially since there are some servers who think you're just asking for allergen-free stuff to be "trendy," I can totally understand the anxiety!

veryberry39, I told a waiter in San Francisco that I could not eat cow's milk and he thought it was a trendy diet. But I still got a fabulous meal without cow's milk, so that's good!

We traveled there last year April. We were a family of 8 traveling with a young adult with Down Syndrome and a Gluten allergy. The experience for her was exceptional. Everywhere we ate, the chef's and staff were awesome making sure she had variety to choose from. At one point, she told her Mom that "Disney really loves me." We all thought that was awesome.

WDW is the best with gluten allergies. I have never had such good services as I've had at WDW. They even made me gluten free Tonga toast at Kona last trip! They were so lovely. Boma always has a chef walk me through the buffet and offer to make me special foods in the back, they are always accommodating even if they are busy. 50's prime time has great great options for GF (they make a GF s'mores dessert, so goood!) and always are super helpful. And Skipper's Canteen's 'tastes like chicken, because it is' is GF and yummy. Nomad lounge does GF churros that are awesome and sanaa does a GF bread service.

They always have the red velvet gluten free and this summer had a lemon blueberry that was lovely. I can't eat at Erin McKennas most of the time as I also have a chickpea allergy and they use chickpea flour in all but their brownie mix....so it pays to ask and get more info.

As someone who recently found out in the last year of a corn allergy plus a ton of others. I promise you that all the dine in services are more than welcome to accommodate. They look at every can of food they use, look at every package they have, they fine tooth comb it. I have yet to have an outbreak or even an itch due any contamination or what not. I wish they had this for food & wine fest where they list all the items that are known to be allergens.

    My favorites:
    1. Raglan Road/ Cookes of Dublin Irish Pub has a special gluten free batter and will make anything on the menu that’s fried gluten free! I believe they have a separate fryer but always double check. I got the onion rings and my family said the gluten free ones were even better than the regular ones. I also got a deep fried burger which was so incredible and completely worth how unhealthy it was.
    2. Sanaa at Animal Kingdom lodge offers awesome gluten free Naan bread! And I believe all the sauces that come with it are gluten free.
    3. Crystal Palace has a gluten free Mac n’cheese. You just have to ask the chef.
    4. You can ask for Gluten free French onion soup at Be our Guest.
    5. Most breakfast restaurants will make gluten free pancakes if you ask!
Tip: if something on the menu sounds good but isn’t gluten free, you can always ask if there is a way it can be made gluten free. If so the chefs are usually more than willing to accommodate your request.
Also unfortunately Starbucks discontinued their gluten free breakfast sandwich. Maybe they still have it in Disney but all other locations are no longer offering it.
Thank you for this! I definitely learned some things that I didn’t know before 😄

Agree - The Chefs are great at both Table and Counter Service when it comes to food allergies! We took our MIL with us last year when we evacuated to WDW for Hurricane Irma and she needs a wheat and gluten free diet. The Chef at Art of Animation made special meals for her each and every time we went there to eat! She was so excited to get great food and special attention! Can't say enough good things about how WDW goes out of there way for special food request! Great video AJ!

Haven’t been to disney in 10 years but We made reservations at Raglan road just for the fish and chips for our upcoming trip. In the past we’ve had great success talking to the chefs at all the restaurants both table, buffets and counter service. I’m surprised you didn’t mention the gluten free mickey waffles almost all the breakfast spots have them! Also most of the resorts have some sort of gluten free pizza option.

My son has a shellfish allergy and when dining at Teppan Edo, the staff was so accommodating and helpful. Even when we checked in, the hostess asked if anyone had an allergies and then had the chef come out who explained everything and offered to cook his food separately. WDW is phenomenal when it comes to dealing with allergies and food sensitivities.

Disney is amazing when it comes to dining with allergies! My dad has Celiac disease and was really concerned about what he would be able to eat while on our trip. We were blown away with how accommodating the restaurants were and by the choices of foods. Having the chefs come out was so nice! They will actually walk the buffet with you and will make special dishes if need be. We had his allergy noted in our reservation and most all of the table service restaurants we had ADRs for were aware of it and asked about it before we even mentioned it. They will still accommodate for an allergy without prior notice. My husband has a strawberry allergy and the dessert at Garden Grill is strawberry shortcake. He was fine to skip dessert but they brought out a special chocolate cake and ice cream. Sorry this is so long but I hope it helps any one traveling to WDW with allergies.

One of your best. Main comment: you said over and over to **ASK** but in my experience, guests don't want to ask and then they complain afterward. I have never failed to be accommodated at a WDW food service outlet (restaurant, counter, snacks). I hope you will find time to make a video on diabetic and processed sugar item avoidance.

We try to not eat in the parks to save money but we always hit up Flame Tree BBQ at AK bc the GF BBQ is ah-mazing! It is so nice to not have to constantly be on guard for cross contamination! I know it is frustrating having to deal with a food allergy as an adult so I am sure it is even more frustrating as a child feeling left out & I think it is amazing how far Disney goes to be inclusive of those with food allergies!

hi all, I would like to HIGHLY recommend the dinner at the Liberty Tree Tavern to anyone who is Gluten Free, in addition to the roast beef, turkey, and pork, mashed potatoes, and green beans, they also have gluten-free rolls, stuffing, gravy, and AT SPECIAL REQUEST ARE ABLE TO MAKE GLUTEN FREE MACARONI AND CHEESE WHICH WAS SOOOO GOOD OMG. they also have sorbet or a gluten-free brownie for dessert. I went with my cousins who are not gluten free and they were so so so accommodating and aware that I was the one with the allergy. I made the reservation a week in advance and let them know that I was coming with an "allergy" I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant !!!!! 12/10

Thanks for posting this. I have Celiac Disease and have been to WDW twice now since diagnosis. They are phenomenal about accommodation and it is the only place food intolerances are truly understood. That said, you still have to follow your gut if you think cross contamination will be an issue. This applies to eateries in Disney Springs & Epcot as well. My favorite places are Ohana for breakfast & dinner and Erin McKenna's for a sweet treat!

My daughter has celiac disease. We went in August of 2017 and cast members told us the turkey legs were not gluten-free. We were also told that the pork shank that Gaston Tavern were gluten free in 2014, but not in 2017. 1 super valuable list would be wherever there are dedicated gluten-free fryers like the skipper canteen. Very much appreciate this video, but everyone has to check every time they go as you pointed out at the beginning!

Great video, much appreciated. It would be great if more people recognised that Celiac disease is not an allergy - there are VERY few people in the world who actually have an allergy to gluten. The repercussions for those with celiac disease who intake gluten are significantly different to those with allergies. Long story short - Celiac is an auto-immune disease and not an allergy :)

Like AJ said ask for chef/manger (for quick service). We stayed at sports resort. We tried to time lunch/dinner for when they had trivia or contests. The GF stuff took longer to prepare so they gave us a buzzer. We'd go over to trivia area, participate and one of us would get the food when it was ready. As the parent of a child who, like most children, likes fries, one of the most difficult things is to find restaurants that have a dedicated fryer for non-gluten item that isn’t shared with gluten items. This is really important and finding restaurants where they take it seriously is a lifesaver. Thanks for doing this video. If you do an update video, is it possible to ask whether this is what the do? Most restaurants think we want a dedicated area of the kitchen which we know isn’t going to be logistically possible but if they can do a separate fryer that opens up so many options for us.

When you go to a buffet, if it's noted in Advance that you have Celiac or Gluten allergy, they will have a Chef come to your table and walk the buffet with you; then ask if you feel comfortable eating from the buffet or would like them to get food from the kitchen. I have never been sick once in 4trips diagnosed.

My family and I went and did the counter-service meal plan. My mom and I are both gluten free and she's pescatarian as well. I was worried we'd both be eating lots of salads, but there were actually so many options! The dining section of the app that lets you order food in advance even had an allergy section. One highlight for me was at PizzeRizzo in Hollywood studios: they have gluten free pizza! It was nice to get to enjoy some Italian cuisine which is normally hard to find gluten-free. It really surprised me how easy the process was at Disney! 10/10

Would LOVE to see this info in a hard copy version. In this video, the referenced "Eating GF in DW" PDF is outdated, mentioning a kiosk that "will open August 4, 2013" so it's overdue for updating. :) Also, the online link to "Gluten & Dairy Free" Disney Dining leads to an error page. I just went on my first trip to Disneyworld this winter, and I was nervous because I have Celiac Disease. Disney was great! Counter services have more that just binders, they have allergy menus at the front. The manager of the counter service location will come out and go over your order with you, and they have a separate section in the kitchen that they make your food in. The manager, or one specially trained cast member will make your food from start to finish, so they can control cross contamination.
The food tracker isn't a thing anymore, I wrote the allergy email and they offered me a list of gluten free foods at the different locations (including which brands that they use). It was out of date at the time that I went, but it was super useful in planning where we were going.

I have done this a number of times now, and never seen that form.
I always check the checkboxes, but that's hit amd miss. Always tell them whem you check in, AND tell your server.
Menus throughout the World are being updated to include allergen info (little symbols). If you still need it, you can have the chef come out, but that is no longer the default.
Non-Disney-owned locations (most of Dis Springs) overall do not do as well, or care as much (except Cookes of Dublin/Raglan Road, which is amazing).
And fabulous - don't forget 'Ohana!
The chefs at the buffets are fabulous. They will make a clean plate of anything on the buffet, or plenty of other things to accomodate you!
Eating safely and delicious is honestly my favorite part of a WDW trip!!

AJ, truly enjoy your blog! We just came back from WDW and myself and a good friend are both Gluten Free. They chefs and restaurants at Disney are amazing at handling this! Three examples: Breakfast at the Crystal Palace; they made us Mickey Waffles, GF as well as Donuts. I believe there were two varieties and each of us got two. Very tasty. The other was Whispering Canyon Cafe. That dinner was amazing. I had heard they are changing how the servers deal with the guests, but we had a wonderful time. They made us GF corn bread that was incredible. Typically GF is very dense but the cornbread was like the regular bread. Lastly, eating dinner at California Grille. Not only is this a special dining experience, but they had gluten free rolls that I used for their dip and Olive Oil. My kids said it looked like it was my last supper. :-D. My wife for our anniversary had a gluten free cake. While this was not the best, the fact they accommodated this request only added to the special evening we had. Thank you for this. We are going back in August and I intend to check out the snacks on Main Street, that I totally missed.

Thank you for this video. It's put my mind at ease. As I have coeliac disease I was worried about eating at WDW. We upgraded from QS (included with our booking) to TS to make it easier. Looking forward to our trip now ❤️

For those of you who are gluten free, I cannot recommend the UA-cam Channel "Gluten Free & Dairy Free at WDW" highly enough. She gives very specific and detailed facts. I adore her work.

Thank you so much for putting this together. I have Celiac's Disease and I'm taking my son on a Disney cruise and WDW vacation. I didn't get the dining plan because I was so worried I would be able to eat in the park. Thanks for showing me some great options

My fiancé has celiac and the counter service places we visited were extremely accommodating. The manager came out, took his order, and prepared it to ensure no cross contamination. He also really loved the snacks with character cookies. I also highly recommend bringing your own gfree snacks to the park as a quick, easy to eat, worry free option.

Great video! Disney is the best when it comes to gluten free and making you feel both welcome and like a normal person! Don’t forget about the amazing gluten free Mickey Waffles at the brunch buffets!

Last year we visited the Coral Reef restaurant in Epcot - they have killer calamari with a dedicated fryer!! I ended up ordering a second serving and walking around Epcot munching on them. This does give some great advice, and as any celiac patient will know, always ask if they have dedicated fryers and water for pasta (to which I've found every establishment we went to understood the reason and said yes).

Jennifer Pool The Crab Bisque at Coral Reef is my favorite. I don’t know if it’s on the menu, but the chef was able to modify it for me.

Howdy there AJ y@ DFB. Getting a little off topic with this challenge but..... How about your favorite tips for securing those coveted dining reservations. It's frustrating to be up at midnight when your window opens only to be shut out by the volume of traffic hitting the site.

Hey everyone, just a heads up - most places will make GF food to order if you just ask however obviously this will take longer so the rest of your party will probably get their food and be done eating it before yours is even done being made. It’s worth it but I just wanted to throw that out there 🙂
I stayed at French Quarter in April and Eric the chef there knew me by name within the first couple of days which was so lovely. It was such an amazing experience that we’re actually staying at French Quarter again when we go back in 2019 because the GF food experience was so good and the food was incredible. I’d highly recommend it!
Disney World is the absolute best when it comes to GF dining and I was never made to feel like I was being a pain when I asked for things to be made GF especially, all of the cast members were so nice and accommodating about it.

Natalie Forsyth I agree. This is applies to most to quick service since they are not timing your table together like table service. There were a few times when I got my food when everyone was done or almost done.

Hi! Saw this and thought I might help. Magic Kingdom fireworks dessert party will bring a platter of GF desserts to your table from the back. If you need more just ask! Be sure to fill out the Allergy part when you do reservation. Also confirm your dietary needs a week before with special diets for all your reservations.

I'm basically allergic to everything. Erin McKenna's bakery in Disney Springs truly is paradise if you have several food allergies like I do. Don't skip it just because it isn't in a park. It's well worth the detour. Personally, I have a soft spot for the donuts.
I also have no problems finding something to eat at Disney and feel completely safe. If you have allergies, Disney is pretty much the best place you can be (for eating out).
