- It's been a few months since Apple Vision Pro was released and the most surprising thing about the release is how quickly everyone stopped talking about it. Let's discuss a few reasons why the Vision Pro failed.

I used to be an apple fan boy. Over the years, I have seen the company become increasingly arrogant. I hate their manufactured authenticity, and also that they use their customers as beta testers.
Still love their phones and the iPad is still the best general purpose tablet. They nearly lost me in the Mac space until the M series chips just took it to the next level.
I don’t like the price of this at all. As JT said, I’d be looking for a much bigger value equation. Devices that allow me to work better. My Mac, Phone are those.
Was the original iPhone a 'beta'? Looking back you could make the same argument
@@jasonkruse2553 yeah they have been doing it all along
same... specially as a producer, back in 2013, macbooks where my go to. In 2016... that was the end. I stopped using iphones in 2018 because of the X... and finally, I never had an apple watch, and stopped caring about ipads even before macs. Maybe I should thank apple, coz they pushed me to other possibilities outside of their Dome.
Apple died with Steve Jobs
It’s like asking why the starwars hotel thing that was 5000usd for 2 nights failed.
I think the Vision Pro is a starting point, not an ending point for Apple. I expect it will have years of runway left and we’ll see how it does during that time.
I am deep in the Apple ecosystem, but a headset is not on my radar now. When it’s twice as good and costs half as much, maybe then. Right now it’s a low volume niche and essentially beta product, which is totally fine. I didn’t get an iPhone until the 3GS launched either.
You have no idea what you're talking about. At this price, it'll never get the chance to succeed. Not even with a price cut in half.
This isn't a "hobby" of $99 dollars like Jobs previously called the Apple TV.
@@mysterio7807 we shall see. Plenty of people drop $1000+ on an iPhone every year. I see the AVP more in line with the laptop buying cycle, which again often run $2000-$4000. It’s not something you will be buying every year though.
@@ElevationEveryWeekend this is a freaking helmet, not something that goes on your pocket.
@@ElevationEveryWeekendmy MacBook Pro, like my phone drives my productivity. This device is just too ergonomically compromised to do that.
@@NeilLavitt can’t disagree. I don’t see a use for it for myself, just pointing out it’s way too soon to call it dead. The entire nerd helmet sector is very niche at this stage.
LMFAO the graphic of vision pro dollar vs anything else dollar 😂😂
I forgot all about this thing
I mostly agree with your take. I went to the Apple Store and did the Vision Pro demo earlier this year, and was thoroughly dazzled. However, since then, I’ve quite literally forgotten the Vision Pro even exists.
There are other apps that are giving you many screens for your mac.. and apple i suspect will add more options later as well. i suspect eventually you will get separate mac apps etc.. YES this is a dev kit
Eventually plan to buy a PSVR2 for $550 for VR gaming. Much cheaper than a $3,500 Apple Vision Pro!!!
I bought two 1tb models and I'm enjoying incorporating them into my music and video work flow. Moog has some nice programs just for it. I love the Vr Model Mini D, so much fun, I can even take my synth to the park and get inspired. Gaming on Steam is great and FaceTime is awesome. Vision Pro just made me Breakfast. This thing was cheap considering the hardware quality was perfection. It's not for everyone obviously, but I wouldn't say it's a failure.
After years in the tech industry and becoming obsessed with technologies (from a creator's POV, not a consumer's), Vision Pro is a masterpiece, both in terms of hardware and software.
As I understand from your words, you are sad about why this product is not mature, which the answer is obvious, but it's 100% future.
At least the project currently Im working on is an AR/LLM base app on Vision Pro. It wasn't possible before, but now it is due to the massive power of M3 + R1 and Swift (writing for other platforms is a pain in the back).
I disliked the video as soon as I heard "at best at
best a fun single-person entertainment
device and, at worst, an expensive
accessory for devices that don't really
need it to be fully functional..."
tl;dr
"I have money wrapped up into this. Let me tell you why you need to keep praising it so I dont lose my shirt...."
@@WillmobilePlusif that were true, he would have returned it. The fact he kept it and enjoys it, makes your point redundant.
Its not the future ! It will always be far easier to pick up your phone to check messages, flip open a laptop to do work, or flip a remote to watch TV and all of those other devices you can share experiences on, everyone who buys a VR headset (even at less than 500 quid) ends up putting it in a cupboard to collect dust after a couple of weeks, because the basic concept just isn't practical !
And you say that the work you were doing wasn't possible before the "power" of Vision Pro what utter nonsense, you don't even seem to know its running on M2 not M3 !
It's an extremely expensive parlor trick.
I had a Smith Corona manual typewriter back in the day.
I also had a 6 disc changer in the trunk of my car.
I can’t lie, the high price point coupled with the bad head strap situation means I won’t recommend the AVP to anyone except my tech nerd friends.
One thing I have to disagree with, though, is the killer app situation. I’ve come to realize that VisionOS itself is the killer app. This headset all but replaced my iPad and even some of my Mac usage due to having so much crossover in the realm of apps that I use. The kicker is that I can have my desk/setup literally wherever I’m at. I stream my games and access the internet in every way I want to all while watching TV in the bed with my wife. My house chores have now become things I look forward to because I can still watch your videos and my twitch streams while elbows deep in the dishes or vacuuming the house. And now that PCVR works through ALVR, I don’t even touch my Rift S any more.
Tl:dr when Apple finally manages to put VisionOS on a pair of maybe slightly bulky glasses, I will be throwing my money at them because having my phone floating around me means I’ll never have to look at my beloved tiny glass rectangle in my hand again.
While I agree about iPadOS, but I wholeheartedly disagree about the iPad itself: it’s a great product that can actually replace a computer for most home users, for professionals who only require word processing, presentations, etc. or for those who have access to some type of remote computer (such as VDI solutions); especially with the keyboard. I couldn’t stand going back to an actual computer for my home private stuffs, granted I couldn’t do •my• work with it. But the iPad is still a great product.
Regarding to the Vision Pro, although I haven’t tried it myself, I feel like you are mostly right about it. While I love the technological step ahead of the device, I cannot find any proper usage at this stage. Technology hasn’t gone far enough for that just yet.
But you’ll milk people’s interest in it to the last drop though? You would not have created a video if you really believed what you’re saying. I’m not going to watch this one because it’s this chasing the algorithm to get the numbers that has cost you in believability.
Interest can't be forcefully captured. Those who are into it will watch willingly. Those that are into hating it surprisingly watch willingly too, if only to say how much they hate it. JTL is well within his right to create content on his experience, and we are within our right to scroll past or click
@@ettcha thanks for the totally unrelated reply to my comment.
@@sharonb.9128 you are more than welcome!
No, I watch Vision Pro videos because it’s like a traffic crash
So don't watch bro, and stop crying about it.
I have no interest in the Vision pro. I would rather have an iPad or MacBook.
I'm glad I saved my money. It's growing nicely in an S&P 500 index fund.
Stocks are a ponzi especially an index like s&p
I actually did buy the M3 max MBP you speak of...much happier with it relative to the Vision Pro. This machine is amazing! And so so much more useful than Vision Pro in this iteration...
Only iJustine is trying to milk every last view out of the VP on her channel - of course she never returned it because she probably didn’t pay for it - Mr Cooke had a spare one to give her
She was paid nicely too. 😂
More than likely - I’ve never seen a negative review from her of any Apple product ever - they pay her very well for her ‘nothing is wrong with this product’ reviews - she never said a bad thing about the VP when clearly there were a few issues
She got a unit from Apple and bought one for herself. No idea if she kept it, but if the first one went back, then that is what she is using. As for her milking it, nothing wrong with that. She's an apple completionist. Her audience already knows that and carving out an AVP niche where her peers have moved on is not bad business decision.
I’ve said it before Apple have gone too expensive. No one can afford their products anymore, I was looking for a Mac book recently €1600 for the base model. Where are they going with that.
Good to see you Jason 🎉🎉
This sounds like the first gen iPhone buzz. I have a AVP and I use it everyday. I think if it wasn’t expensive , there would be minimal complaints, which has very little impact on how amazing AVP is.
Good video, valid points
I love my M1 iPad Pro 12.9 - I use it more than my M1 MBP. However, you are certainly correct that iPad OS is hobbled.
It’s 99,9% true. The 0,1% is for the niche that was interested 15 years ago by 3D TV. Those persons definitely should buy an Apple Vision Pro.
Yeh. Agreed, niche.
@@NeilLavitt but for them, Apple Vision Pro will be the best 3D television ever created haha
@@NeilLavittthey marketing not as niche. You should watch movies and record you children. Ridiculous
@@koenignero not sure if I understand you correctly. I would prefer myself to not be wearing a VR headset when I interact with my kids. Family time is human time.
What was up with that scream at the end? Who were you calling?
I think the VP is better suited for engineering, surgery, production parts, but otherwise it’s just a better media device
Definitely
I agree. This is not a consumer product but mostly an industrial, medical or military product.
My question is when the non-pro version comes out how are they going to neuter it and still make it look like an attractive product if the pro version is half baked to start with?
Looking at what they do with SE phones, and looking at Metas ray bans, it will be the exact same basic functionality but probably less immersive and with a phone sided ssd chip instead of a laptop sized one like on the pro. It will just be glasses, so it will give you the screen real estate, but it wont totally block light like a headset would, so it will be “less immersive” and more “functional”.
A. good (and very correct) analysis! Thanks!
You’re not wrong.
My iPad with a Bluetooth keyboard is my computer but I have to say you are correct because everything you said that the iPad was good at is basically all I do with a computer and that's probably true of a large portion of the population.
Congratulations on the M3 Max MacBook Pro Jason!!! Excellent choice. 😎👏🏻
I think they're gauging every aspect of it to see if a 2 would even be worth doing and how long they can coast off of a dev kit status.
Excellent video! However the camera zooming in and out was quite distracting.
Well said! And I totally agree with your assessment here. I do take issue with your comment about Apple Arcade though, 😂, even though I know what you mean. I like some of the games on Apple Arcade but then I only play games on my phone right now. No PC or console.
Actually, I could play some of the Arcade games directly on my Apple TV if I were to get a wireless controller and that alone might enhance the experience a bit (w/o the need for a Vision Pro). However, I’m not even doing that right now.
I do wish Vision Pro was more or perhaps will be more someday. But I tend to agree that, at least for now, it has failed. 😞
Also very funny video too! Great as always!! 🥰
AR devices are the future but not in this form. You are completely correct.
Microsoft showcased an AR headset years ago that could've been amazing but because it needed external computing power it became pointless. The vision pro might be a step in that direction but this definitely isn't it
If you mean the Hololens? You're confused, it's being used by the government.
Have you stopped making videos?
Couldn’t agree with you more
The problem really is the price point, and yes, I do agree that Apple gave us a beta product. At best the Apple Vision Pro is probably worth $1500 and that’s it best.
The Vision Pro was not meant for wide consumer use. Consumers could buy it like I did but it was for developers. Do you REALLY think wide spread consumers would pay that much. None of you UA-camrs have any patience which is ok. When it all comes down to it….its all about what I want. If you don’t think that Apple knows what they are doing…you’re sorely mistaken
yup exactly, it's not a fail by any means the product was aimed for early adopters/developers.
Yeah, let's launch a product that very little people are waiting for, and sell it at an insane price. What were they thinking?
The Apple Vision Pro seems extremely useful for me to play games on the big screen you can use it on any device that got a screen or getting chilled with great music in a beautiful area there are many things that I want to do with this yes I would like to have one I live in Europe we still need to wait here
I think I could live without a smart phone but I don’t think I could live without Spotify. If flip phones could stream music, I would happy with one.
Actually as a lowvision person.. this has been a game changer for me!.. it replaces the ipad for me in most use cases… and for once in my life i can watch large 100 inch screens and sit up and not be hunched over the keyboard in a pretzil shape with bad back pain..This is amazing and yes you can play steamVR in some ways now.. and even pair controllers. This is early days.. and you are selling it short..
I think eventually the Vision Pro will be cheaper & have more apps & more games & will be worth buying. But in 2024 that is not the case. Maybe 2029 will be the time to buy it. For now it’s an overpriced beta product that shows how rich you are to your friends because you have $3,500 to waste.
Two expensive and released too early. A marketing f up of the highest order.
The iPhone wasn’t popping 3 months in either…let’s calm down.
4685.00 CDN???? hell no...and its not even pretty...beyond done with apple
Beyond done with a company because they made a single product you were never going to use anyway lol?
I always wanted that trashcan Mac too. I had the iMac with the swivel screen... Memories of originality in computer hardware. Great video.. Liked the edgyness
The price that can’t capture 99.9% of the population.. i wonder y
То је веома леп видео. Заиста ми се свиђа. одличан посао.
That was painful....... to Apple.
Love love love the honesty here. “Magic “LMAO.
I watched this video and I enjoyed it.
Is the Vision Pro amazing at what it does? Yes.
Is it worth it for most people for the entertainment or productivity factor? NO!!
There are a handful of people in this world that this would make sense for, I and almost everyone on this particular planet are not in that group.
they are compering this headset with the iphone... as much as I hate apple, the iphone was truly a revolution to the callphone tech. I respect that, and back in the days apple wasn't as evil as today. Now... the vision pro is a piece of cheese for the free lab rats, and a middle finger to all devs. I really hope it doesn't start selling on other countries because... it will be a nightmare. if companies don't follow apple's dumbest ideas, I wouldn't be worried.
thankfully I cancelled my order
You had $3800 just sitting around burning a hole in your pocket huh? Can you help a brother out? I'm behind on my mortgage this month.
@@jinvid You are right, it would not have been money well spent.
you ALMOST saw the light. With 4000$ I would buy a 5090 (comes out in 6 months) pc and call it a day.
and do what ? Play more games? LOL
The Killer Apps for me are movie watching (alone, admittedly) and the spatial videos experience, which is pretty mind-blowing.
I’d argue if that is all you want, a Meta Quest 3 would do at a seventh of the cost.
Apple iOS integration is the magic sauce though. I actually bought a new quest to compare and it only seemed like 20% better than the quest 2 I sold. Once I’d played all the games, my quest just sat for a year- quest 3 is going to be returned as well.
To be fair, I’m deep in the Apple ecosystem, so quest just doesn’t hold a candle to Vision Pro for the following reasons:
- My whole movie library is readily available
- Disney plus movies in 3D are amazing
- 4k screens on AVP aren’t even comparable to the quest displays for video
Lastly, it just works- it’s insanely enjoyable to view decades of media captured on iPhone through this headset. No effort or transferring required on my part. It’s all just there, ready to enjoy. I would never argue that it’s a perfect or even worth the price, but honestly, I have enjoyed the Vision Pro far more than expected.
@@Cayden3D Well said and that wasn't so painful to be honest about this amazing tech!
I couldn’t agree more. Vision Pro is a massively overpriced failure.
Dang. I care.
I wouldnt go to an Apple store and pickup a Vision Pro if they were giving them away for free.
Let me ask you this and it's going to sound stupid. When referring to the vision pro who is apple competing with.
meta at this point but then coming out now to end of year me into 2025 quest pro 2 better price and has controllers, then you have updated poco what ever that one is , the new visor if nearly as good productivity as what vison pro is then its going be cheaper and lighter too ,.......upcoming samsung and google mixed up and then well sony doing one not sure its main idea is but that has nice wee ring controller .............as am in uk and doint have any apple stuff so i when on ebay bought quest 3 512 model so kinda future proofing things, my price was 465 pounds , and i dident need go try in apple store or have to have iphone just bought and got delivered brand new and even got 6 months free subscription so i can test thing out and free game .........even if i buy new headset with extra battery it still works out better and cheeper than 200 apple battery that to change over it switches off so no like 30 min battery to have work then add spare as still on so at this moment in time apple is not realy aim ing to have mas adoption of it but its me ade me go get my first vr headset even i only use few times is still not wasted money but as soon as get better head strap with more power as well as what already has then i can sit waching tv and movies and surf web with biger screen and exercing as play games as well so its going be my main thing in coming future at dam great price for all that am happy ,...............i may infuture swop to samsung headset in furture as for now quest is for me .......
Medical training and engineering. Period. That’s all, folks.
If the AVP is not for you then so be it, but for anyone intrested in this product i say go for it and enjoy it!
Totally wrong about iPad.
The Lisa, The Newton and The Vision Pro Apple's biggest failures
It hasn’t launched here in Australia. It seems like an amazing device that simply does nothing. I think lightweight and cheap glasses for media consumption could work though the market is saturated there. With Apple Vision Os behind it maybe.
All potential VP customers should try a Meta Quest 3 first and if they really like it, it may stick.
I’m from Australia too - VP would cost over A$5K if it was released here - yeah naaa no thks
I used to hate VR/AR until i tried one and I can see that it is easily the best tech in 21st century after all the trash that has been released including Iphone which I'm not a fan of touchscreen
@@toututu2993 Not a fan of touchscreen? So what phone do u use then?
@@techware1840 Any Phones now a days are fully touchscreen and they both work the same ways. Does it really matter what phone I'm using?
Faster processor phone does not improve the experience of using touchscreen, no matter how skilled you are in using them, it does not change the fact that it is the most awkward to use compared to any form of device's controller.
Failure may depend, because this is the first time Apple releases a new product category starting with the Pro. Which means, it is not ready for Mainstream consumption. Also, it is not produced in massive quantities, so they were expecting not a lot of sales. I think this is a gadget that will excel in the FUTURE, NOT NOW.
The "Pro" part in the name is there just to sell it to people it doesn't mean anything else.
The most honest review I have seen
Well this wasn't review at all but still this were more trustful than 99% of those actual reviews.
iPad is GREAT for music productivity. Makes charts super editable and easily sharable and runs stem tracks like a champ. Niche though but still great.
The VP is definitely overpriced, over engineered dev kit. Gen 1 buyers are beta testers.
There are a lot of Apple suckers out there.
I like it when you’re painfully honest.
More like bias. He have no clue thar Vision Pro have an update 😂. His like a criminal trying to convince everybody that he's not at this point 😂
Did the apple fairy dust make you buy the Vision Pro before you returned it 🤔
Your Always giving up iPhone every year or so 😂 so very entertaining I’ll keep watching
Hey, you sound like Steve Ballmer back then 😃. Do you remember? "$500?! With a damn phone plan? There's no such thing. It's the most expensive phone in the world" and: "There's no chance of the iPhone getting a significant market share."
Well then, we'll see...😉
Don’t care I am keeping mine. I bought it 3 times previously and kept returning it. I just like having it around.
🐛
Vision Pro? What’s that?
Honestly I had no idea why anyone would want another ar/vr headset. A very cool 3500 toy that like all headsets will gather dust after 2 weeks.
first of all, everyone knew u were going to return it.
second, I don't think this product is that expensive
third, No matter what apple product u buy your just gonna get a replacement in 364 days max. Saying something will be your forever computer when u constantly upgrade your stuff is just deceptive. We can look back at your videos and see how you constantly repeat this process with every release
Everyone was skeptical about the touch screen as keyboard ⌨🤣
Everyone was skeptical about a VR headset being able to do productivity 🤣
Waste of money
I sold my M1 iPad Pro cause I never used it as I already had an iPhone and an M1 MBP
Good review, but I think it’s way too early. I believe in the coming years, it will be a standard in medical and scientific training. I will say that it’s a must have for long haul flying, which I do several times a month.

@@mikeydurden Why? So people who clulessly bashing on a product that is still in its infancy with barely any software available have different opinion to me?
Sounds like Google Glass lol
Was always a dumb idea. VR and AR remain niche as hell. I knew this would most likely fail because
1) They can't even convince gamers to mass adopt it. And gaming is really the one area where you can most make an argument for its use. But just look at sales figures of the Meta Quest or the PSVR......they are not huge. Not at all. They too are niche products. So how were they ever going to convince the mainstream...the average person...to strap a device onto their heads to do regular stuff?
2) The failure of 3D TVs. They failed because the vast majority of people simply were not willing to wear 3D glasses while watching TV at home. Now if most people wont wear those thin and light 3D glasses to watch TV at home.....what on earth makes Apple think that most people will be willing to wear a large pair of uncomfortable ski googles to watch tv and movies at home? And humans are social animals
and 3) It is a solution to a problem that does not exist. No one using a screen in front of them thinks to themselves....."you know what would make this better?.....a large bulky device strapped to my head".
VR is still the future I know it this is just the beginning over 15 years we won’t use smartphones anymore but smartglasses and 3D movies are phenomenal on the Vision Pro from what I have heard
HomePod Mini has more utility.
It sounds like you are not the target customer. You bought one and tried it out and ended up returning it because it wasn't worth it for you. Which is fine because you should not keep anything just to make videos on.
However your take just sounds very basic without any real depth beyond, price is too high, no killer app, and no one cares because of low views on your channel. I guess you could say the VP failed to maintain the hype
If it was the Microsoft Vision Pro, or the Metaverse Vision Pro, or the Google Vision Pro, that would be all that we would be hearing.
But Apple gets a pass (because of course their fans insist on this), and that anyone applying the same standards routinely applied to other companies is just them being too "basic".
Yeah it was a pretty poor review. Lacked any insight into the purpose of the product. Just watch FPT’s review if you want an understanding of Apples mission here. This guy is just a typical tech reviewer where if he doesn’t like something, you shouldn’t either.
I learnt nothing from this video. The fact he returned it just weeks after owning it shows he doesn’t care enough about the product to waste our time watching a review about it. The best way to show your disinterest is to say nothing and let the viewers get the idea.
Just bear in mind, the thumbnail to this video was very different originally. It gave me major Steve Bullmer vibes when talking about the original iPhone.
@@KJB1996 " if you want an understanding of Apples mission here.
It isnt the public's job to understand "missions". This is a corporation, not a nonprofit charity or your local government.
They put out a product to sell. If it doesn't live up to the hype, then people will say so.
But because it is Apple, you are supposed to act like their is some deeper thing, and that if you apply the same standards used on the Hololens or Meta's products, then you've done a "bad", and are just some gutter base reviewer that is too stupid to know Apple like you know them in your heart.
@@KJB1996it was poor in your opinion because your opinion is different. I tend to think he is right. It’s too expensive, too heavy and at better a niche device in its current form. I think we’ll see some different products come from this that are lightweight and media/ productivity focused, but these devices will be niche only.
I buy most Apple products, but I wouldn’t splash as much money on something I just couldn’t use much.
I’m the target audience OK for the concept but I’m definitely not willing to drop so much money on a first gen prototype device that I would wear at most once or twice a week.
Its sounds more like NO ONE is the target customer. Or that 99.99% of people are not the "target customer". Yeah its a good product except not for 99.99% of people...
First
first of all VR itself is a flop!! look at the adoption rate. so when apple going into VR industry no doubt will flop as well
You’re right about the iPad. I have an iPad Pro & hardly ever use it. Mostly because iPadOS sucks. And the battery life sucks too. Also have a Mac Studio with a Studio Display. If I could have all that money back, I would have rather gotten a MacBook Pro with the Studio Display.
