Because we used to feed them in container, once I put my hand in the aquarium they used to come on my hand, knowing I will put them in container to feed them, they are so smart. But now they are big, it is not easy to take them out of the aquarium, I will have to use my both hands. But it was nice feeling to know that they trust you.

great vid as always! With my turtle, I found that a handling or two every 2-3 days for feedings and such really helped with the taming process. My turtle is now comfortable with hand feeding and swims up to me when I’m near his tank!

My turtle only allows me to carry her when
    *Food is involved.
*She's being directed from under the bushes outside.
She's very chill and just stays still, looking around.
Any other time, she turns into a cat and scratches up my skin as if I'm about to toss her to Mars.
And that's 80% of the time she's being handled.

Great video. We used to take our turtles out of aquarium and feed them in some containers. And when they were smaller, one of them managed to get out of the aquarium ( it was half open aquarium) so it got out without my mom noticing, and she just walks around and hears something tapping weird noise, and she looked down, it was one of the turtles following her around, because they know us as food provider, I assume it was looking for some snacks from my mom 😂 oh and some of them they just calm, human can earn trust of turtles.

I have two red eared sliders. One is about a year and a half named Riley and the other is about 2 months old named Bentley. Bentley doesn't like being held but she loves to snuggle up to me or nap on my lap. Riley on the other hand loves being held and will climb into my hand (I think it's because my husband and I handled him a lot from the time we got him when he was a new hatchling).

My big 10" RES is pretty much chill and doesn't mind / scared of human presence at all. When i am handling her, she just chill and tuck away all her feet / arm.
And my 3" Razorback behave like that too.... Until it's time for me to brush it's shell. It goes berserk whenever it see a toothbrush, biting + scratching. It's funny when you think that the bigger the turtle is, the harder it is for handling but nope, i got a cute and small little devil instead 😅.

Ton-chan hates me, always hisses if I'm near her. Only time she comes up to me is if my arms in the tank and tries o eat me. She likes my daughter will follow her around. I think its because she usually feeds her. When Ton-chan was small we would move her to a different container to feed her. it became a pain and she didn't really like it
    - I made a basking area that the entire top of the tank and made a feeding spot in there so we just had to pull out the container not the turtle and switch the water. She likes this much better and I think turtles can tell time. Always knows when its feeding day and will get into the container and wait for food time.

Haha I checked when you said under 2 minutes. Nice try lol. The funny thing about my 2 turtles is the one I have had for 8 years doesn't trust me at all. Meanwhile i adopted a turtle maybe a year ago, and it let's me pick it up. It'll swim up to me. It even just looks at me when basking. For an RES, that's pretty impressive that it doesn't dart into the water! The other one is just skiddish. I've just learned to accept it though. Funny how different their personalities can be.

My turtle tolerates handling, I don’t handle him other than for cleanings and taking him outside. What I need for my turtle is how to get them to stop trying to escape. I used to have a box for cleaning days that he came in but it was pretty short and I left it on my desk and that’s right next to my bed and I found him crawling around on my bed. I got a tub that I fill with water but he has yet to escape, he still tries though. He also tries to escape. I have a 55 gallon and he’s a 5 inch turtle (I’m trying to upgrade him soon) with the same basking platform as hoku. My tank was too wide so we got those clip things so it would fit and I found him on top of one the other day. I switched his setup so that they aren’t there anymore. The setup isn’t nice looking but I’m sure he doesn’t mind rn. I’m thinking about putting his old basking platform in thats the same as your musk turtles in the meanwhile while I try to find a more permanent way. I feel like even though he won’t have so much swimming room but I’m thinking that it would be better for him to not escape. Do you think that’s a good idea?

Hello, looking for advice, after moving my wife"s turtles to a 150 gallon tank, I took there old 55 and built an acrylic 48x24x12 acrylic enclosure for the top to turn it into a custom palidarium, have it up and running filled it with amphib and anole friendly live plants, springtails and dwarf white isopods. the bottom aquarium is housing a pair of white spectre crayfish and gouramis. I also got 1000 1/4 inch crickets today in their own housing unit I built for them. I have now ordered my animals TWICE from "reputable reptile dealers" ( won't put up theirr names here) both took my money and then sent emails 2 days later saying they wouldn't ship ( I live in Sitka, Alaska). I am simply looking to get a mated pair of green tree frogs and a small colony of green anoles ( 1 male, 3 females). I am hoping you could maybe give me a heads up on a good company I can get my animals from. I would like to get them up here while the weather is still good, 65-73 degrees currently but once fall hits the temps will become unfriendly for live animal shipments. Sitka is the 4th largest city in Alaska and we have fed ex and UPS up here as well as the post office. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, in advance.

    • @victoriagavia6435
      @victoriagavia6435 3 роки тому +1

He should still have a basking area with a heat lamp and UVB bulb because uv rays don't penetrate glass (through window, then thru aquarium glass he's getting zero UV which is important for shell and overall health). I would definitely recommend upgrading from the suction cup basking area to an above tank setup or making one out of pvc pipe, eggcrate, and zip ties. You want the turtle to be able to get completely dry. I feed my RES Mazuri brand aquatic turtle food and he loves it! I also offer dried Meal worms and shrimp to my ~1 yr old turtle.

My musk turtle is a hatchling but nonetheless a feisty one and always tries to bite at my fingers by stretching out his long neck or keeping my mouth open as if he’s about to bite😅

Hi turtle girl! just a random question, is it okay if I keep my turtle tank water temperature to 91°F for my Hatchling Red eard slider? That's room temperature in here by the way.

that sounds pretty warm...i'd not go warmer than low eighties.... a fan can help keep the tank cool.

Do you keep your diamondback terrapin in fresh or brackish water? I’m interested in getting one someday but ive seen a lot of controversy about that little detail

Do your musk turtles ever fight cos you have 6 in one tank and they advise not to put many turtles in one tank
