    One of the best features of this soundcard is that it totally lacks SCMS, so you can backup old digital MD, DAT, ADAT through this before they deteriorate.

      Absolutely, thank you for pointing it out, unfortunately I’ve forgot to mention it in this review.

    • @skinnyhastrup
      @skinnyhastrup 5 років тому +1

      @@mangopunch2411 It's not that complicated. The thing about SCMS is that it prevents to make digital copies from one media to another. It's always present on consumer hardware like CD, DAT, DCC and MD players/recorders, so these can not make a digital copy if the protection is set on in the selected media. When you go outside the 48khz/16bit standard it is not mandatory to implement SCMS, and the U44 can record up to 96khz/24bit. My (very old) Maudio Delta 66 soundcard has optional SCMS so I can make digital copies of all 2channel digital audio formats. If you want to know even more: everything2.com/title/SCMS

I’m thinking of using it with my I-pad as an interface for recording and looping at the same time, into garage band or Cu base (the same idea as a guitar looper pedal, continuous overdubbing). Do you think this would work? Would midi and recording work simultaneously?

    The batteries are only required if there is no bus power from USB. I know you're using Android, but I believe both iPhone and iPad provide bus power so the batteries aren't 100% required. I don't know if the batteries override bus power. If they do then that might save battery life on a mobile device.

    Really nice review! Very worthy of a big thumbs up and a subscription.... I am considering either this U-44 or the Zoom H6. I like this U-44 because of the midi conductivity. Would I be able to daisy chain a Maschine controller and Komplete keyboard with this unit with the U-44? Would you have any further info on how that type of setup would work with the U-44?

    • @TechieViewVideo
      @TechieViewVideo  5 років тому

      Thank you so much for leaving a comment, I’m happy to read it! In my opinion U44 would be a better choice than H6, you can also buy an accessory with stereo XY stereo mic which works perfectly together and made a fantastic recording on ‘location’ or elsewhere you prefer combining it with your Android, IOS, OSX or Windows device. It works very well with midi through, I’ve used it with my midi controllers and keyboards and never had any problems. Unfortunately I didn’t have any experience with that particular set up but I believe it should work. 😉

      Hi! Yes, absolutely! It is very versatile audio device (interface) with 2 inputs (2 separated mono channels or 1 stereo) and 4 outputs (4 separated mono channels or 2 stereo) It is capable of audio conversion of 16, 24 or 32 bit and 41.4, 48 or 96 kHz. Which means it can be used for professional applications. Moreover, as i know broadcast quality audio is 16 bit 48 kHz wave so as you can see - Zoom U44 indeed could be used for broadcast quality audio recordings. It works with Windows / Mac / iOS / iPadOS / Android devices, drivers available from Zoom U44 web page. Thanks!

    If you are direct monitoring, and use 2 mics; do you hear both mics as a mono output or do they come out as stereo while direct monitoring? I've used some interfaces where mic 1 comes out in the left ear and mic 2 comes out in the right ear and that can be very annoying to me.

    • @TechieViewVideo

      Hi! I believe it will sound as ‘mono’, I’ve recorded several sessions with 2 separate mics connected and do not remember anything like ‘stereo’ effect in my headphones. • @TechieViewVideo
      @TechieViewVideo  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, as I remember H5 is a recorder and U44 is an interface, there is some difference in between, U44 is physically bigger has more IO functionality also could be used as studio grade headphones amp. For me U44 makes a better choice for many others it could be different I believe it is more a question of own preference. Thanks!

    • @HomoAdvocatus
      @HomoAdvocatus 4 роки тому +2

      Thanks a lot for your answer! Still, I think the H5 can work as an audio interface, too. As far as I know, the H5 works with internal storage (SD cards), while the U44 can be used as a field recorder only if you connect it to your iPhone or iPad in order to save to recording over there. So I think the H5 gives you more flexibility in the field, since it's smaller, lighter and can save recordings on an SD card without any need to be connected to a second device (iPhone, iPad, Mac), but well, it's much more expensive for that.

    • @TechieViewVideo
      @TechieViewVideo  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, yes you're right, if you more in to field recording than H5 probably would be a better choice but as I wrote earlier it is a question of personal preference, in my case I'm using it more in my studio set up and sometimes on location if in need for proper sound quality in my headphones. Ive used it also as a stand alone recorder set up and it works very well specially in multichannel combination but again it was a secondary option, it is a best available portable interface not a recorder so for some people dedicated field recorder definitely would be a better option.
